Get more carbs... flatheadjunk hooked me up with a 6x2 for the Nailhead... bad ass to say the least... cool deal, another great HAMB deal... oh I may not carb it, I may just go ahead and build an injection set up based on these throttle bodies and a MegaSquirt....
pre fab... There's more info in this article.... http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/articles/hardcore/0405em_electronic_fuel_injection/ and this one... http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/135_0406_electronic_fuel_injection/ we're a Moon Dealer and I can get just the throttle bodies themselves... I believe they retail for about $150 a piece with no injectors...
Personally, I say build it the way YOU want it, and damn the gas prices. They are going to go where the oil industry wants them anyway, and if you build your car around fuel economy, (or some other economy-related reason), then you're not going to like it when it's "done". Roger
Lets see, the high cost of installing fuel injection vs. the cost of fuel.....bounce all of that off of how many miles per year are you really driving your old car. Are you really going to save any $$$? Is it really cost effective?
I'd rather HAVE something when its all done rather than let those with the gas have my money! You can look at it another way and amortize it over the life of the vehicle and also compare how much cheaper it would be to put FI on NOW rather than in 5 years after you've already fattened up one of those oil beasts and the $150 is now $210.
When I was swaping My 57 chev from a 6cyl/power-glide, to a V8 ( sorry 6cyl guys - I love the power and sound of a V8). I toilled over the FI guestion?? I settled on a Gen 3 327ci ( 5.3L ) with the over-drive that came with it, I was able to use all the wiring harness and accesories. The stock 6 cyl radiator even keeps it cool. I love it!!!! I have a 50 year old car with about 330 hp at the flywheel, and will run out on the freeway great. Not to mention it gets over 20 MPG on the cheap stuff. Now I know the "Traditionalist" will beat Me up for having FI.....But 57 chev's came with it. It now has some more wires.
As in everything else ... take the advice of others and then make up you mind what is gonna be kewl in your mind. I fought the battle of the 350 or the six deal and finally chose the six, in the end i'm glad i went with the six.
Get a higher paying job, spend it all on fuel I just did! Got a $400 buck a week rise! New blown flattie in a 30 coupe here I come!!
It's not about fuel economy, it's about making power, and making the right power everywhere in the power band, hell I may run some E85 through it my just changing the map. And at this point 6 carbs would cost me a helluva lot more than I can build a fuel injection set up for. Yeah some of those reply's make me have to poo....
I'm gonna document the hell out of it... It'll be going on my '57 Buick. Hopefully it'll be at the HAMB Drags... I'll do burnouts in the parking lot...
Hell yeah for the burnouts AND the 57! Do those MoonJection units utilize the standard GM Bosch injectors? I've been pondering 3x2 injection for my Nail. it's the wife's car and I want nothing but utmost reliability for her. Mike
Yeah, standard injectors. Hopefully I should have a few of them in my hands in the next couple of weeks, then I'll be able to tell you guys more.
Lets see, six Throttle bodies=12 injectors at 24-32# each........ That's gonna need a lot of cam. any way to put a blank in the extra injector hole? Milled aluminum plug with O-rings?
Well Nailheads do like a lot of fuel. I've been playing with the math to see what size injectors I'll need and there are some fairly small injectors out there...
Lets face it.......if we were in this hobby for economy.......we would be building ricers. Screw the fuel cost.......ain't nothing like the sound and feel of a big block running wide open. There's streets needing stripes painted.......
Just a saginaw 4 speed at the moment. Looking for a Muncie or a T-10, maybe a 5 or 6 speed, that's actually the engine for my roadster that the manifold is sitting on. There's a 425 with a ST400 in the background. I love Nailheads....
hell yeah! A richmond 6 speed would be WICKED FAST! I'm thinking about the possibility of the Moon '97's on a custom manifold. More like an EFI with 1 Per cylinder. Hey, when you work at a machine shop, you can do anything you want! So WHY NOT?!! Mike bangin on the 364" nail
