tire size i want is .front 5.00 16 rear 6.00 16 rim width is 4 inch looking for whitewalls these sizes may vary a little depending on what sort of rake i want and what the original rims will cope with (safely)
Honestly, if your suspension, steering, shocks and such, are in good working order and tight, you should have nooo problem running Bias. I two was sorta brain washed into thinking bias are unsafe, but I would reconsider. You can't beat the look of a bias tire, either.
i am running 32 axle juice brakes f100 steering in a model a delivery lots of dirt roads around these parts .potholes .dead critters etc maybe bias plies have improved and yes i also love the look of them
Unsafe Being an old guy all I ran was bias plies from the early 60's up untill the very early 90's when I couldn't get them locally anymore, everybody just sold radials. Nothing wrong with them. The only flat I've had in the last 25 years was last October driving back from Goodguys @ Charlotte when a belt on my radial tire blew out the sidewall. Glad I put a spare in the trunk the week before. Circle track guys would only run bias up until a few years ago as they felt they handled better and gave better feedback than radials. If you like the look, go for them. Coker really does stand behind their stuff. Just my two cents.
Only that they don't last long and are now damn expensive to be replacing when you drive alot. I'm cheap and if you know where I can continually get a set for $200 I'll be on board.
They are flexing a little sideways so they don slide above the gravel like radials and keep contact with the road a little better, they are also softer so they acts as a little extra suspension in the potholes! They are are also nicer on the steering and suspension parts since they were built for biasplys and radials are too stiff and wear out the parts faster! The drawback that they often doesnt last as long as radials, and when you are driving on roads with deep grooves, then they can be all over the place!
Contact Scarliner here on the HAMB. He's got radials on his fenderless 27 coupe and if I didn't tell you you wouldn't know. They are an off brand truck tire pretty good looking tire.
If those really are radials on Reggie's coupe then yes, you should talk to him. They really are a good looking tire - you're probably not going to get a wide white though.
I know I sound like a greenhorn, but what the hell. How many miles can you expect to get out of a set of bias plys under normal driving conditions? By normal I guess I mean not entering any burnout contests, and the cars suspension and such in good shape.
Bias ply tires seem to be very sensitive to tire pressure, they wear very quickly if they're too pumped up. I went through 4 sets in 30K. I bet I could get nearly 10K out of a set if I watched the air more closely.
Yokohama sells a steel-belted radial that looks close to a bias ply. I can't find the part number anymore, but the RY215 ain't bad lookin if you shave the sidewall lettering.
thanks for the replies .i originally thought this thread would turn into a (whadda got against bias ply )but it hasnt .i have learnt something today.everything ihave seen so far in the radials have been too wide for 4 inch rims .dont come in wide whites or just dont look like a traditional bias ply .iknow 5.00 by 16 and 6.00 by 16 is not common in hot rods but anyone who has this combo please post some pics either bias ply or radials (if you can find em)
Davesville, ...we do have 550R16, 600R16, 650R16,700R16, and 750R16 in the Coker Cl***ic in blackwall and wide whitewall radial. I am running 600R16's on my 53 Ford F100. Corky Coker
