my custom made tailights

have you ever made something your just not sure about ..or fit the project your building...here some tailights i made ..using the 54 chevy bubble lens...the inner bezel is tack welded to the car but the out part of the bezel is just setting in place not welded yet...im not sure if it fits my cars look..please tell me what you guys think and what you would change about it..i like it but my wife doesnt..but im kinda bias cause i made it..input wanted thanks

 

also im thinking of peaking the tops of the fenders from the tip of the tailight bezel to mid ways of the trunk and the fade it in ..thoughts please

i like it eddie , i had to lower the car to make sure..... you know me ! the cut **** but it looks better lowered

Been watching the progress of your project over the last several weeks. If I had to make a suggestion about what your doing with your car it would be to stop and get a drawing or rendering put together before you proceed too much further. Its easier to change or experiment with a line or concept on paper than it is in metal. Dont be afraid to consider hiring someone to help if the budget allows or you can do some of this yourself.
Youll need a good photo of your car from 5 angles , R/front view, L/rear view, Front head on , Rear head on and side straight on. You can use any combination of views just settle on the ones that are easier for your drawing capability.
Takeing a good sharp contrasting image of one view, enlarge it to a 8x10 or so. Get yourself a sleeve of tracing paper and trace an outline of the shape of the car , some photo programs allow you to create an outline of an image also. Once you have an outline make a couple of copies. Take a white out pen and erase the lines in the area you want to modify. Now simply lay a sheet of tracing paper over this sheet and sketch your idea out. Dont like it throw the tracing away and try again. If you like it keep the tracing and or try several versions. To go back and forth just simply overlay the drawn concept over the copy.
You should have a fairly good idea of the finished car when you start . It just makes the project so much easier. You've got a lot of hard work and effort into this car . A little effort into this area will make the end results that more impressive.

what do you mean facebar?..im thinkin of peaking the tops of the quarters from the point of the tailight housing to about half way up the quarter well about half way of the trunk then fade it in

i worked off the templates..i made the bottom of the bezel smaller and the top of the bezel longer and more point'er..but thanks man for the templates

i think i figured out how to seal the lens aswell ..i made a template out of a 2x4 wood the exact size of the lens (the bubble part ) then i w****d a peice of 18 guage ( 1 inch wide) and then bent the brake line the shape i wanted and welded it to the peice of metal ..so now when i bolt the backing plate and lens in from the inside with a cork cut out gasket the 1 inch piece of metal will fit tightly to the cork and lens...i beleive it will be water tight..i hope anyway..lol....i studied the stock bezel for awhile..to see how it sealed..so built mine the same way..i wil l let you no if it works out

I think the tail lights look real good. I keep studying the photoshop slam and I think you should p*** on the peak. It looks like once it's all smoothed in you won't need to add it. My $.02.

 

I like them, do the same shape on the bumper and have the exhaust exit there, so you have the extended "fin" with the tailights and the same shape on the bottom. Make it nice peak in between the two

 

Yours look similar to mine also except mine arent pointed like yours are. I think they will look great when you get it finished.

 

Hard to get a grasp on that thing,in it's rough state. But i'm sure it will great.

I think they look good but they'll look better once everything is painted the same color (even in primer). Right now they kinda "stick out" and don't quite flow yet. Once your wife sees it all in paint she might change her mind.

Personally I would NOT do the peak. I'm not sure what benefit it would have. I think it looks great smooth.

To me a great custom is about good proportions, and I'm not seeing that with it slammed. Lowered is good but I think that's a little radical...unless that's what you're going for.

Ask for opinions and you get 'em.

 

eddie i tried to photoshop in the color & whites... but it looked like a third grader colored it, i printed off the pic & in the next few weeks ill do a hand drawn pic for ya
