It's the T176 transmission shifter. http://www.4speedtoploaders.com/shop/enter.html?lang=en-us&target=d165.html
Jeep top on Ford tranny. St. Rodder 8/1992 page 190. This is in my rod index. If you need I will look up the article.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding but I think he wants to put the shifter on a 3 speed toploader style transmission. Do they use the same top cover plate?
Yes, a similar conversion is available for the 3-speeds, but I'm ignorant on which trans tops fit the Ford 3-speed toploader. It is virtually an identical swap to the T176/4-speed swap: minor grinding for the shift levers, plug the side levers, away you go... Street Rodder article is 4-speed - T176/Toploader.
It is the T150/150T used by Jeep/AMC 76-79 Jeeps. The Jeep Top for the 4 Sp are T176/177/178 80-87 CJ's and Trucks.
Levi Classic had the conversion done to a Ford 3 spd by a guy in Detroit. I bought the trans and hemi conversion from him awhile back. He is going to deliver it to me sometime next week. Maybe contacting him will get you some information. Frank
I saw that David Kee had the parts for the conversion. www.davidkeetoploaders.com Look for Street Rod Shifter. Expensive
A friend of mine is running one in chevy powered 29 roadster . 3 speed T150. he wanted to keep his chrome top 39 cover and shifter. machined up an adapter plate , and reworked the forks. works great. found this out from street rodder mag early 70s. 32 only in ohio makes an adapter top loader to early ford with a cross shaft. the jeep top cover is easer yet real close to the 39. A bolt on. real strong full syncro low . and still LOW BUCK.
