SAN FRANCISCO - A nearly $10 million eBay bid for a car made famous by "The Dukes of Hazzard" seems to have vanished faster than the Duke boys escaping from the sheriff in the hot Georgia night.

The General Lee's owner - actor John Schneider, who played the blond heartthrob Bo Duke in the 1980s television series - is upset that the $9,900,500 winning bid appears to be a hoax. The bid set an eBay record last week.

I think a simple "Duh" would suffice here.

Something seems phony about this whole deal. Sure the 9,900,000 bid was a hoax, but it didn't get that high on one bid. Why wouldn't you go back to the next highest bidders and see if they were legit. I can't believe all the bids were hoaxes.
I rather doubt he will get anywhere close to 9 mil at any brick and mortar auction house either.

He won't get anywhere close to that.

If you look at the runner up, he had been bidding on SPawn and Star Wars figurines. His bid wasn't any more legit.

Hardly none of the them were. Are people really this dense? (rhetorical question)

Yeah, it won't ever bring anywhere close to that. Especially since, if I read the description right, it's not even the actual car used on the TV show.

I have serious doubts it is even JS's car. In interviews with him about the show he always makes it like 'it was just a car' and he and the other 'actors' were the real attractions.

Lets see, Daisy's *** and an orange car...did anyone SEE any other actors? We all know Cooter wasn't acting.

when my friends told me about the 9 mill I knew it was fake...but what rediculous price do you think it will really go for...400,000? I dont know who the hell has that kind of money, but I need to know if they are hiring.

I Think The Whole Thing Was Just A Ploy To Get Publicity For John's Up Coming Movie. It Just Happened To Work Out That The Auction Ended On The Same Day That His Movie Came Out.... Sounds Fishy To Me.

Wow, I sure hope his fine acting talents and great lines ('Yeeeeee Haaaaaaaa') don't get upstaged by a car.

"EBay spokeswoman Catherine England said the company doesn't keep track of how many winning bidders renege"

A fundamental problem with the system.

Who would want the General Lee in the first place?

I was the biggest Dukes fan in the country but still always thought they should have been driving a black '68 Chevelle with white rally stripes.

    Rednecks.

I'd bet they keep records of all REPORTED incidents - it's a little way to skate the symantecs - they don't know about what's not reported - and if the reported numbers are good then why not publish them - probably if that info was public a lot of the sellers of higher end stuff would be turned off and go elsewhere.

That and the whole feedback thing is screwed up - I won an auction - buyer refused to sell item, after numerous attempts to pay and pick up item I filed a complaint, they said they couldn't make him sell or do anything, plus to top it off the seller had done this numerous times. I left negative feedback and he turs around and does the same - WTF?? - I complained about the retailatory feedback and they basicly said "too bad" - OK so I get a negative remark for doing what I would consider the "right" thing???
