I dont have photoshop so I did the best I could with Microsoft paint. A preview of a little of whats to come on my project. shaved handles and trim. Mild chop and air suspension. Running boards will lay level on the ground tho couldnt figure that part out...so the rear will tuck like the front.

  9. I did a post on my 54 GMC some time back. I only sectioned the hood and cowl 5 1/2 inches. left the doors full length and channeled the cab 5 1/2 inches to do away with the running boards and the door bottoms line up with the bottom of the fenders.
no different than anything else. just cut wha you don't want and weld the rest back together

I wonder if mine was an ambulance? I have the roof vent, and had the same fold down seat on the drivers rear wall, and a built-in toolbox of some sort on the pass. rear wall...

I know it was a colorado forestry vehicle, but we also found out it was first a US Army vehicle. We found the army green and lettering under the dark green.

For those of us that are not familar with the difference of the various years.. how about post a pic of each year and point out the difference (educate those of us who do not know the differences).

Back in the early 90s there was a whole sketch series in Peteresen's Custom & Classic Truck mags. They did a center fold with several models and how to tell the difference. I don't remember who was responsible for those but they rocked. They'd show front/rear/side shots drawn with the different trim and body options and I had one for the Tri 5s posted on my wall at work. When I left, I must have forgotten it because I don't have it anymore!!

Anybody remember those? Who did the concept drawings?

Also, the vent windows started in 51 with pull down handles. 52 had push button handles. That is the most obvious but so many change to one piece glass it is difficult to tell the year.

54/55S1 had a unique grill and dash.

54/55S1 had the 1 piece windshield.

www.stovebolt.com has a gallery by year.

That's be my guess. '52 or '53 on the green one posted above. The VIN would be the best place to tell. I've seen those add on turn signals and clearance markers on many different years. Most just used the ones in the grill as the signals.

the above info helps some but wasn't there some years with vents in the cowl area of the body ?? (on one side I thought)
