First, I think we are lucky to have a handful of vendors to choose from that all have good stuff since we all have different opinions on what makes your rod "right". I recently found some Hurst tires that fit what I wanted for my rod. I called, talked to a friendly guy who seemed pleased to take my order - not always the case! He told me when he would ship the tires and when I should expect them to arrive, and it worked out just that way. And the tires look great. I have no experience with Radir. Just saying that my recent experience with Hurst was very positive for me.
Well, I've bought two pairs of Hurst pie-cut cheater slicks now and I love em. Exellent people to deal with and very pleased with the quality of their product. I have over 2000 miles on one set and approx. 1000 miles on the other and no negative issues at all. Al
I have no idea about Radir but I am happy with my Hursts. They track straight and being on a radial case helps that they dont have the slop or bounce you normally have with slicks.
Hursts are recapped radials, Radirs are new Bias tires.....whatever tire you're running on the front should make the decision for you. BTW, just ordered some Radir's for a customer at work and I got excellent customer service and the tires were there in no time.
Hey I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I bought a pair of thye Hurst recaps about five years ago from Moon. I ran the shit out of them for four years and I noticed there was a small bubble in the surface. Keep in mind I have driven all over the place Paso, Bakersfield, even taken the car to the drags. So I called the guy that makes the Hurst tires now. I told him I bought the tires before he owned the company and he still took care of the tire for his cost. He would of took care of it for nothing but it turned out a small nail was stuck in the tire. I will bye Hurst tires the next time I need some tires for a car at my shop. Scott
I'm probably a little bised....HA, BIASED, now THAT'S funny (not really), anyway, I've had Radirs on my truck for a long time now, I dig 'em. I wouldn't hesitate to run either brand though, the Hursts are fine as well!! It all comes down to preference, the H's are based on radials and as such are a little rounder, cross section wise, and the R's are Bias and a little more SKWAR....
Hello I would like to see a Hurst and a Radir slick next to each other. I want to compare height and width. I know that they have the measurements on their websites, but since they aren't shaped exactly the same I think it would good to just visualy compare them. I'm only after the look anyway. Both seem like good tires. //Magnus
I love the Hursts- have a pair on my '57, it's just sad that I apparently can't be a vendor for them as I hauled 3 new pairs around for a few months to different big events and while everyone loved them they equally almost had heart attacks about the price. I sold all three pairs for less than I paid (my "dealer" price) even after offering them on the HAMB for my cost with only one bite. Does the cost make them unapproachable for many or is cost not an issue when it comes to cool tires?
Cost is an issue, especially on something that is a consumable item like tires(double-esecially REAR tires). I got my Hurst 8.5x28x15 for $139, totally acceptable to me, some of their other tires are a lot more expensive.
Howdy Boy's! You have alot of option when it comes to HURST. Most of my sizes on the used casing are $295.00 pair blackwall Cheater retail, and with HAMB discount"15% off" they are $250.00 pair. Yea I know some of my stuff is spendy with the recap Cokers and such retailing at $650.00 pair, but over half of the cost is in the New Coker casing, but look at the selection of sizes and styles that are offered. Any more this is only accomplished with buying brand new tires to offer casing selection. And you have my word to take care of each and every customer like they are one of the family. You have alot of options with Hurst, so many I think it can be a little confusing, dont hesitate to call with any questions 503-656-1572 Thanks For the Support!! Cody
Guess I started too rich with the new 15x8 whitewalls- $600 a pair retail ($510 my price- plus shipping). I sold all 3 for less than that. Still love the tires.
Well, while it's not a fair "test", as it was only about 30 degrees outside, on salty MI roads, and I didn't play around with tire pressure at all... when I drove my '55 to Autorama and back, my Radir 10.00-15's didn't hook for shit. If I stepped on the gas, I was on the rev limiter. But... they ride nice, track straight, and look cool as fuck.
Blue Collar Guy, You "ran the sit out of them for four years" and you found a nail in them and you STILL asked for Hurst to offest some cost on your tires? This is why vendors go out of business!!!! You may have "scorched" Hurst, but in the long run, you screwed the rest of us who might have a LEGITIMATE quality issue. Damn.
wtf? scott aint out to 'scorch' anyone. i think both are good, but i like the hurst a little more since you can get a bigger whitewall with them
I bought a pair of radir's last summer (8.20x15) from Autowonderland (graverobber63) he's an alliance vendor on here. I'm pretty happy with them. They get a little warm on long drives but always hook up well. I like the fact that the radir's aren't recaps. The only downside is that they are expensive.
I think they are both good choices. From the what I've heard customer service seems good on both sides. It would be cool to have a shootout at the strip. Run the same size tire, pressure, rim size ect. on the same car and don't let the driver know which set is on for the run. Run each set 3 or 4 runs and look at the results... RageRodder what width wheel are you running?
I run the Radir's myself and have no plans to change. I had a pair of the Hurst tires that I bought from Speedway on my coupe. Couldn't get them to balance with less than a lead brick; and I'm not a big fan of a tire that is painted to look new.
