Hi All! I've followed this forum for a while now, but haven't posted much. I've got a 1949 Buick Super Sedanette that I want to make into a nice cruiser and am looking for some tips, ideas, etc.
The driveline will probably remain as stock for now but I did get a duel carb setup for it.
I'm thinking, lower it, shave some chrome, and maybe a flame job.

    What would you do?

PS. THESE PICS ARE NOT MY CAR, BUT VERY NICE PICTURES OF A VERY NICE ORIGINAL CAR. My own car looks the same but is a little rougher and tucked away in the depths of my garage.

Sounds like you have a plan - lower it, shave some chrome, flames or scallops. It would make an awesome mild custom, for sure...

I have a "basic" plan but can't decide on the details like how much shiny stuff to shave ( I kinda like the bombsite on the hood ), and what color(s), flames, etc.

I'd lose the emblem on the front, but I don't know about the chrome on top of the fenders - I kinda like em and if you do get rid of them, you may find that you wanna pancake the hood as it'll SEEM to stick up much higher. Have you played with photoshop or even paint? Hell, you can just print out pics, cut em up, and tape em together to see how things'll work...

They are just fine lookin cars no matter what you do..I am doin the same body style with the same questions, 48 Cadillac sedanette..the flat8 is a ball of rust so I'm gonna go Eldorado 500ci that I have, change it to RWD..the question is rebuild the stock frontend or subframe it? subframe is starting to win out, then I get disc brakes and PS..I'm just going to lower it a bit and put a little tint on the glass, start thinking about wheels/caps....

Emblem on the front is going for sure. I'm can't decide on the fender trim. If I french the headlights and pancake the hood as you suggest, then I think it has to go too. I think the gravel guards have to go too. Not sure of the side trim. I was thinking of removing it except over the rear fenders.

I haven't played with Photoshop, but I have taken a black marker to these pictures. As far as color goes, I've been thinking black, dark blue, black cherry red, or copper solid colors. With flames black or maybe even white.......

I have a '64 Electra with a good 401 nailhead as a 'parts' car that at some point would like to put in the '49. Problem is... my wife is starting to complain about it sitting in the driveway... :(

    mlf,
these are some pics of my wife's 49 sedanette. it's been nosed, decked, had the front bumperguard removed, lights frenched, and the rear fenders welded on and smoothed. it has a fatman front clip, and a 455 buick\400th combo with a 9 in. ford. it's the same year and model\bodystyle that my wife's dad had when she was a little girl. she loves this car.
    good luck with yours,
    dan

    Looks good Old Kid!

I love the look of the shaved rear deck.
I like the look of frenched headlights but I think it's all or nothing.... your look with the frenched headlights and shaved fender trim/nosed/decked or keep all the trim except for the nose badge.
I like the bombsight so i'm having trouble making up my mind.

What rear suspension did you use when you converted to the ford rearend?

Harvey Earl was a genious, so the less you mess with the basic design, the better. Cool ride, have fun, especially with the coumpund carb set-up!

Lower it gently, loose the badges, and don't paint flames on it. Look at some of the cars at the Merc/Duece reunion posts and see how they ruined those cars and then don't do what they did.

  12. Hey

    Check this shit.

It's got to be one of the baddest, slickest Buick Sedanettes around.

Built by a guy in Finland...

More info and pics in the latest issue of French magazine Powerglide.

    Lower it.
Shave the front emblem, door handles, "Super" logos and deck lid.
Paint it a dark solid color.
    Stock wheels, hub caps, www's.

NO flames! They will ruin an elegant car.

Nice ride Arch. I like the color.

I thought about making the trunk emblem into a 3rd brake light too, but I haven't been able to find replacement plastic. It seems the '49 Super is almost impossible to find.

    What drivetrain are you runnin'?

Arch - The engine bay looks great. How did you split the exhaust? Do you have a custom header or is it split further back in the pipes?

Love your sadanette especially the look of the front bumper. What year did it come off of or is it a custom cut and rechrome.
    Thanks Photo Rob

For once, I don't actually have an opinion. The customized one looks great and so does your stock sedanette. I know, I'm not much help.
