I took some pictures of the Merc Deuce Reunion over the weekend. I still
have a tough time figuring out why more people don't attend the show. Here
is my coverage of the good the bad and the ugly.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Just beginning to think "well, here's all the Good and the Bad(***), but where's the Ugly?", and got to #4. Which isn't a bad average really!

My non Merc pick of the show was this '50 Ford Club coupe. George Poteet owns this bad ride. It is kool enough to make old Henry Smile......

    Thanks for posting these Mick.

The Alcorn Merc for sure is the best out there... what a style that car has.

Also interesting to see the two new/old photos of the Sonzogni '50 Mercury, thanks for sharing those.

So sad that such an poorly styled Merc can win a contest.

    I agree!!

If you could do away with the wheels and the purple vinyl top it would do
wonders. Checkout the chop top on the Merc, the proportions are right.

I was wishing that "Nadine" would have made the trip up from Austin. It
would have been worthy of the ***le...

his album if your interested let me know and I'll send you some copies. I love the burnout picture.

  15. OK, so which one is the Sonzogni '50 Mercury? Another question, perhaps I'm a simpleton, how can I tell the difference between a 50 and 51 Merc when they've been customized?

The 48 Buick was my favorite, but I love the white 59 Chevy also. I've got about 130 pics of the show at cl***icdragsters.com also.

The Sonzogni Merc is the old pictures or my picture of picture post. See pics
below below. The guy had a photo album full of them and I plan on getting
duplicates made from his pics. He has a kool collection of pictures, besides owning a Barris built Merc. If you get the chance you ought to talk to him in
Lamar. Kool guy to talk to..

My Merc is a '50 with '51 rear fenders. How can't you tell the difference after they are customized?? You can't......

The Buick is owned and built by **** Huckans from Sperry, I'm proud to say he is one of the Stray Kat Kustoms kats......

You have some kool event coverage and enjoyed looking at your web site. Keep up the good work.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

The FUglyest one was the one with all the louvers in the deck lid. The stance on it was fugly too. When I seen it it looked like it's *** was stuck way up in the air.

    Hey,

Thanks to whoever posted the pictures of the old kustom Mercs.,
especially that ol' black one doin' the burn out! Please don't tell me
that it lived on to become something like that white, blue & purple
    flamed iteration.
In all fairness, in 1983 that "look" was all the rage, at least to those
who didn't know what a Merc. was really supposed to look like.

Great job on the pics. Thanks for posting.

The Stucky King of the Mercs has been one of my favorites. I've only seen black and white pics of it for the longest time. When I first saw the red/white pics on the net I was surprised. I had always imagined it was silver with Candy red or maroon. Is that red and white the original paint scheme?

Doesn't look like it would take much to do - just a new coat of paint and bin the billet wheels?

I have never been able to understand why anyone would put anything but plain steels or hubcaps/wheelcovers on a Merc.

Wow, this forum is a tough crowd, if it ain't totally trad., a boy can get a real *** whippin, sometimes I like seeing the odd paint like on the flamed merc. and the resto gone bad, selfeshily because they make my ride look better. But letting everyone do thier own thing seems to be what the hobby is about, it makes me feel a tinge bad when someones ride is called out on an international forum as a punk-o ride when they have worked thier ****s off to save an old car. Well I guess I shot my big mouth off enough! Come on guys give'm a break!!-Low and slow-Sololobo

well, ya gotta understand this is a board for TRADITIONALLY styled rods & kustoms...im sure the car is well recieved in other places, but the majority here, including myself, see it as what it is, a billet clad, airdammed, ugly *** painted mess...did he work really hard to get the job done?, yeah, but to quote a great line, "so do washing machines"........

The first step is to admit that you have a Merc with a problem.

Yes, I used to own an ugly Merc.

Because of the grace of God and the help of some friends. I was able to
save a Mercury and convert it to something that is Kool. This post is not
about blasting some dudes car, it is all about saving a Mercury!

Look at the pictures below....... Yes I had problems; 1978 look'n Camaro
Spoiler, Front wheel drive directional wheels and 240 z Headlight buckets.
    Could it get any worse?

It may be too late for this one. but hopefully some one is reading this post
and can see the light of day and not make the same mistake. Hopefully one
of these days he can step up and admit that he has a problem and The Mercury
will be healed of this disgrace.....

Some guys try to hard to be Kool.

    CHURCH!!!

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

You don't see to many pictures of Mercs doing burnouts. I thought it
was a Kool picture and the Merc is Sonzogni's old '50 Mercury.

  29. The fourth one is so confusing, like he can't make up his mind weather he want's a street rod or a kustom, not a good marriage. Also the last pic with the Merc on the left and that molded front end is not Merc tradition. A kustom should be low, slow cruising, smoothe from one end to the other. Also please don't open the hood and break the lines of a beautiful Merc or kustom. YES I am old school to the bone and kustoms big shiny and smoothe rule. Rags

  30. To be fair, there were no crying babies or fake drive-in food at the show, and only about two cars had names painted on them.
