maybe not what most would expect,

But I have several thousand pics of (sadly) "customized" cars from the old days...

    this photo is of a "customized" mercury and is listed in an album I call;

AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT .....

(A fascinating compliation of old accident photos from the 20s thru the 50s)

Maybe were not talking about the same car,but I wasn't aware that there was another that the rear windows operated? if it is the same car, Jims? then it was traded for a 50's merc and cash.
He drove the merc in question to rebel run and the following weekend he drove the orange merc. Photos attached.

maybe were talking about two diff cars. But for who ever asked about the car i posted photos of this is what it was traded for

Yea you are right he did trade it, its the same car. Roumer has it that orange merc went with a pile of cash too. The orange merc was supposed to be a SEMA car. Yea aint that a bitch. Hope the new owner appreciates it.

Well, glad that mystery is solved, I thought that it was his car. And I knew I wasn't imagining that deal!! cause I was there both weekends:p

Yea it was a bitch. I absolutly couldn't believe it. But he said it was an offer he couldn't turn down. The orange merc is pretty, but no way compares to the car you built!!!!!

Congratulations on an awsome build. and your right I hope he does appreciate it. Hopefully Jim gave you the guys info so you can keep tabs on it!!!!!

To bad I don't run my scanner anymore as in the early '90's I filmed 3 '40 Merc's. 2 were chopped and I had all 3 together at a run in Tacoma, WA. Several pictures of all 3 showing the same car with different custom styleing and work.

I also did the same type of photo shoot with 3 '53/4 Chevy hardtops a year earlier in Deming, WA.

They simply show the different tech's to the same body.

OK, Saturday I had some time to work on the Merc. I almost have the rear fenders done. So now I'm working on the inner fender wells. I scored these from Rudy who parted a sedan last year. The bottom of this car has some ruff spots to say the least. I hope to get the rear dropped and suspension done. I'm looking at replacing it with a 12 bolt (covert to open drive) and use leaf springs too. So here's where I'm at. I have some time next week and will finish this and rear part to as well (floors and rear pan). My goal is to get all the bad spots repaired/replaced, frame/suspension done, mold fenders, lower the front and rear (get the right stance), and engine running prior to chopping it.

Wow! Mazadaslam. Hey, if I come across some 39/40 Merc parts I'll let you know. Also, try these guys for floors and stuff:

    http://www.bradleyfloorpans.com/

They have 39/40 merc floors (incl. trunk). I just ordered the trunk piece and will order the floor pieces soon.

J.B. how's the window treatment coming along? Anybody else working on a 39/40 Merc or has pics to add?

The paint on this thing is awesome...

I can't help but think that the accidental reflection was originally intended as part of the pic as taken...

this is a perfect example of a Great sheet of glass

  16. Hello J.B.

I have a 1939 Mercury coupe that came from Danmark around 1990
and is since that time in Holland.
I could buy the same car in 1997, but let it go for a 1932 Ford Sedan that i bought in Belgium, but could not forget the Merc.
Holland is a small country but nobody knew where this car was standing or if it was still in Holland, but last year it was for sale on a Dutch internetsite and i knew that if i didn't buy it now, i would never find another Mercury 39 or 40 Coupe at least not in Europe and certainly not so cheap as i bought it.
The Merc is still orginal, but a 331 Hemi is already in my garage and it's crying for a chop.
I will be in Sweden for the Powermeet in July.

  17. Concept I did for a 1940 Pickup / Ute.

    sled,

Hey that's a good start there! And this film you speak of, I wanna know too! Also, I believe King Kustoms is working on bringing Kevan's 40 to the next step of a 40's style Custom. And if your lucky to know, Rudy is at again, with Paul's 40 Merc. This is becoming another breath taking 40's style Custom in the making. Hope to stop by his place and see it first hand.

I'm going for this style for the 1/4 window treatment. Again with Andril/Zaro style. Of course raising the front and maybe stretching the 1/4 a little more. These pics courtesy of PHILLIPS SHEETMETAL in San Diego.

hi 53chevy,sure it is a good start...have lots more parts belongin to the car right now in da garage, actually cleaning process...

waitin for a trusted friend from down under to chop this thing,he's a master metal guy...well,not only this one....will chop all stuff i have anyway...

also i see that your car is comin out well, not so extreme as my taste but cool anyway

these 39/40's are timeless, never wrong with those once kustom treatment is applied...

cool to hear Kevan's merc is getting into style again...can't wait to see some pix ,really appreciate if you can arrange em...

and by the way,i've heard about this guy Rudy in Hamb, seen some beautifully made chop tops in other posts,is the same guy i suppose...

wanna know more about, truly skilled as far i could see ....do you know him??

ken,let me get the DVD in my hands and i'll post some pix and all details about..is US made, should be easy to get in any videoshop...

the orange kustom Merc showed is definately worth it to buy the movie, and just remembered now in some chicano gang fightings the rival gang comes with a 49/ 51 kustom Merc too....cool one!!!

    so,be patient a sec,you'll get all infos...promised!!

also there is still great stuff to be found in the old Mexico...really havin good fun down here....

    soon,sled

Don't know what happened to this picture I posted last year but here it is again......

This car belonged to one of our members for a short time. It was built by "Bones" from Hemet, CA.

While going through one of our clubs old photo albums, I found these pictures of the 1940 Merc that was owned by Harry Mohoff, a former member of our club, in the late 80's or early 90's. No one still in the club remembers exactly when.

One of the unusual things I noticed was the way they mounted the bumper guards behind the ribbed (DeSoto?) bumper on the front. Couldn't find any rear shots of it. It also looks like it may have a "crest" on the cowl. Could it be a Barris car? Anyone recognize this car or know where it is today?

  29. Bulletnose, the bumper guards on Harry's great looking Merc are the stock '37 DeSoto guards, and yes they mounted from the back. Very few guys ranthem but they look pretty good.
