Slowly making progress......ready for interior in about 3 weeks. Have included some photos of the tail light fab for those who asked. Cut out the center of the guard with a cutoff saw and then welded two mounting tabs to backside of the guard. Then mounted the #412 LED strips from Lambert Ent. to the tabs. I welded a 1/8" steel rod around the opening to give it a nice flow into the guard. The lens is cut from a red 12" tube and is fastened to the guard. Sorry about the photos, I seem to always fabricate first and then try to explain later....not good. Anyway, the project is nearing completion and I'm getting pumped. I will post more photos upon completion for you '40 Merc guys........and you know who you are!!!

    Kustomman#1,

I do have some top chop photos I will find them and post. As far as the window frames go , It's a part of my life I'd like to forget.....maybe that's why I didn't take photos (LOL)

That looks very nice. The widshield seems to be still quite large, how was it done? That is a tricky chop and if you look at the other large "1940 Mercury Custom" post, most are a total mess.

very nice indeed. Do you have any 1/4 shots of it from the front and back?

    great work.

    Gl***guyoc,

I have enclosed a 3/4 view from the front and a full rear view. I typically don't like windshields on '40 Merc heavily chopped , gives them a squinty look, don't get me wrong I like squinty , but because the Merc has so much "forehead" IMHO it looks better with less.........I chopped the rear 7" the front 5" which left a very squinty look, in order to get rid of that I raised the windshield header up into the body 3". This ended up with a 12" windshield opening as opposed to the stock 15". I hope this picture helps a little bit.......when you view the car at 3/4 view the front and side windows look proportionally correct. After the moldings are in place you end up with about 11" at the windshield and about 9" on the sides. Rear window is stock height , but laid down. Hope this helps

    I DIG it!!!

Stance and chop are 90% of the battle-- And you've already won!

Happy to see a Caddy motor in there too.

yes, very nice. Nice new look. Many many people neglect to move the windshield up and as little as an inch makes all the difference. Your 3 inches gives the greenhouse a real open feel. Nice flow.

Its amazing how incredibly hard these tops are to chop right the farther down they go. Good job.

That is awesome, absolutely perfect chop and stance. Wow. I love 39-40 Merc and that one is prefect. I can't wait to do one I'm going to copy your to the T.

The only bad thing I can say about are about the tailights. I love the idea and it looks killer. But I can't love the LED's. It's the only thing I can say turns me off.
