    Just curious ....
Either if YOU built it or had it built... whats the one questions people ask that just tugs at you?

I hate when someone says right off the bat- 'gee that car looks nice, whats it cost to build"? Drives me nuts....especially when they ask about my own car and not shop stuff- THAT I keep track of. :p

I keep getting asked if duct tape is really a good repair for brake lines......and I only used it on three wheels. The right rear line is BRAND NEW...what the hell is their problem????

Yeah that one used to drive me NUTS- people escpecially freaked when they heard I painted my own car in a tent.

A few years back in Syracuse my wife had some guy beleiveing she built the car- of course cuz he only asked the same freaking 16 questions EVERYONE asks and she knew those like the back of her hand.
It was so funny- he just walked away shaking his head in 'disbeleif'

Man I too got that question on my rpu.
But think about it, thats really a compliment coming from those that enjoy looking at our cars but dont understand them. To have car that looks so complete that they think it has to be partially pre-assembled and thought out by some manufacturer is the highest compliment. Now if we didnt build the car it would be a different story.
These stupid questions we get is really a way for the common non-car people to communicate their curiosity and pleasure.
You really cant expect them to actually ask a question that would relate to the mechanics or structure of the vehicle would you?

I only dislike questions that are obviously asked to try and upset me....always asked by a "car guy". ANY question from a "citizen" is OK with me........the best questions are from kids, who are always welcome to jump in my car and get their sticky dirty hands all over the steering wheel and shifter.

I get asked the "how much" and "who built it" questions all the time and I have no problem telling people who worked on the car because it sends work in that direction and I just don't answer the money one.

The thing that chaps me..."is it glass?"

I have caught people tapping, knocking, and touching my car so many times it is not funny. I have kinda started getting nasty with them. Three times now I have had people try to argue with me telling me than in no way could my car be steel because it is too smooth and slick. I point out it is unchopped and has drip rails but these experts still insist it is glass. One guy at the Round Up started in on my buddy that has a 33 Ford with the same crap, that car is to nice and smooth to be real. I do not get that line of thought and those comments at all.

Mine is--What was that before you ruined it? I tell them" it was worth about half as much as it is now".

  19. What color are you going to paint it ? I gave up on saying it is painted in primer and now just say" I don't know , what color do you recommend, " after they answer red or blue or whatever " I say "that might be nice I will think it over" Then pay for my gas and drive off laughing to myself , if you got to explain it , they won't understand ,,,,Walrus

I always get " Is that a Merc? Oh, Its a 42 Ford, Ford didn't make cars in 42. That looks like a Merc grill." Then I have to explain the rarity of the 42 coupe and the limited number of production. Frustrating but, some time entertaining. The entertaining part is the look of confusion on some squeekers face when they try to figure it out. and then ask the question.

  25. #1 when they argue with the owner on what kind of car it is.
#2 when they say go ahead burn out, I say you buy the tires!
#3 when they say nice low rider how high will it bounce, ( it's a kustom ). Take care, car guy's rule! Rags

    My favorite is:
"Looks like a good start." followed up by
"What are your plans for it?" which is answered by
    "Drive it."

I like it when the old Farts (older than me that is) say We had one of those when I was a Kid. Ive had my 38 chevy coupe for 33 years and years ago they used to say 'I bought one of those new'. Those guys are all dead now.
