Seeing as we had the thread on best method of cutting fillers, I was thinking of switching fillers so what do you guys use? I usually use Evercoat's Z-Grip. It's cheap and fills nice and I'm used to it. I was thinking of switching or at least trying out Evercoat's Rage Xtreme. What do you guys use and why?
I tried the rage extreme and didn't like it...I'm not a pro bodyman but the rage gold worked way better for me . i asked the body shop supply guy and he said that the extreme was for final finishing and not general filling. I like to use rage gold and icing for finishing
I remember it says rage on the can , but can't tell you if it's extreme til tuesday. Works good, pinholes are small. Adheres good to galvanized metal. Do not let it sit overnight or it is hard as a rock.
OK so everyone's pretty much settled on the Rage Gold as opposed to Xtreme. Anyone have a reason why?
Easier to sand even if it dries longer. I use more lead then bondo but rage gold is the best I have ever used
I use the blue evercoat, super everflex or something? Sands fine, little/no pinholes and is cheap. I dont like Rage. And whats with bodyfillers having X game sports drink type names? Xtreme...Rage...wtf?
I used Rage Gold for probably 5 years or so, then switched to Rage Extreme, used that for a couple years. A couple months back we accidentally got a case of the old GOLD in, and I decided to give it a try, instead of sending back to our supplier. Boy did it ever bring back memories. The Gold eventually dries harder than the Extreme, and is harder to sand, but dries slower so there is more time to hit it with the cheese grater, or 36 grit while it is still curing/drying. You can pretty much cut it all the way down till its level with the metal. (I've never had good luck doing that with the Extreme, you have to wait till its fully cured to sand) Then switch to a poly putty or glaze. Just make sure its a two part putty. No one part ****.
rage gold worked better for me then Extreme. the one thing i really liked about the gold was is changed colors when you mixed in the hardner (blue hardner) so you knew if it was fully mixed, the Extreme goes from white/tan to white/tan.
I've used Rage Gold and my last bucket ended up being plain Rage by accident. I'd say the Gold sands a little easier. The main thing about either of these fillers is getting on them before they are fully cured. I like them both.
Cool, I'll give it a go with the Rage Gold on this project and see how it does. I can always go back.
im not even close to being a pro..but i bought a gallon of gold and a gallon of extreme and like them both..then i went to the paint store to get some ack rags and the paint dude ask me if i ever used ..upol fantastik.. i said no i just bought those 2 gallons of evercoat from you still a bunch of both left ..he told me to try the upol before i used the evercoat further..he said once you use the upol fantastik you will never use anything else..dude i have to say its good ****.compard to gold ..gold it like spreading peanut ****er fantasik is like spreading very soft serve icecream...with no sagging...try it first..it will beat anything else you try..it sands out standing.just try it i could keep on about what it does but just try it ..then let us know what you think..heres what it looks like
I'm tryin out the Rage Gold first. Just ordered it about 5 secs ago. See how that works out then maybe I'll try this stuff too. I've recently opened my eyes too alot of different products than what I normally use so we'll see.
My neighbor is a back yard bodyman, and I use the term loosly. His favorite filler is chicken wire, cardboard, and expanding foam LOL.
He sounds like the guy who started the work on my 51. The whole grill cavity and rolled pan is all chicken wire and gl***. All-Metal also works good over welds to help waterproof them against the wonderful eastern elements.
I use z grip for high build and rage extreme for large surface glazing. it's more viscous and easier to spread over large areas, but it is pricey
