  4. It's not required, but an intro kinda slides you in a little smoother

let me guess you have a 512 Testarossa

and you want to park a Willys next to it.
I wish I had your problem for sure.

a plastic Willys is still very expensive and without any photos its hard to tell you what its worth, I will say this, a plastic anything with 800hp will make that Testarossa feel like a pinto

  9. Bienvenidos a la HAMB.

An intro is kind of a tradition around here; lets everyone who cares to look up your posts have a chance to get to know you a little bit.

Hazing is another tradition around here...

I s'pose you've asked kind of a difficult question for anyone to really answer in an online forum, even if you'd posted a hundred pics.

That's why there are guys who make a living by estimating the value of cars.

It's really hard to judge the value of something by adding up the price of the parts.

Example: Willie ****er spends $15K on a new car. Takes it to Boyd's shop, and has the fit of all the body panels totally blueprinted. The interior is stripped and the most beautiful set of 'bomber' seats made out of ***anium, riveted together. The finest burled walnut inserts put in the dash. Painted the outside flat black with red wheels. Done so nice that you can't see a ripple or flaw anywhere. And the name of the car lettered on the trunk. Rolling on 22's. Is it worth anything, even though everything is done well, or does a lot of good work not go together?

Another example: I'm buying a reciprocating ***embly for my Dodge 383. Will the motor be worth the $1600 for the parts, plus the machine work on the block? I guess it would really depend on the quality of my ***embly work (checking clearances, etc), and my choice of parts/dimensions (CR, cam, quench clearance, etc), and whether there were any little hidden things (hand-fit crank s****er, oiling mods, etc).

Real hard to treat this stuff like a commodity.

If you have a 512 Testarossa and that in the same garage, call me with your address, I will bring beer.

    its worth 55K

  11. As i suspected. If no paint, i figured no interior. So, you've got a $17K "roller", $1500 tires/rims, and a big motor that I could build for 15-20K. Now, it's a used motor. Used hot rod motors have lousy resale. Try and get 50 cents on the dollar the day after you've built it. See where i'm going? Do the math. Or maybe i can sell you a used bridge or something? If you pay anywhere near $55K, they'll bury you with it. Or you can put a ring around the tailpipe and marry it

    groucho, I beg to differ

    systems,
water, fuel, brakes, cost money not included in "roller" price

motor, trans, drive shaft, rear end,

    steering, cage, electrical,

price of not having to do it yourself.........

If it looks anything like what it looks like in those photos and is not a hack job (you never really can tell in photos) 55K is not out of line. Its by no means an "investment" unless you take into account scaring the **** out of his Ferrari friends

which is also worth money come to think of it
I'd say its not that bad a deal

i keep getting pm about not leaving an intro so I went back and did one please go easy on me > i didnt want to offend the crowd i am just new to the hotrod forum ! please understand I plan to play by the rules and I am a retired paint restorer and will give as many helpful tips as you request !:)

  17. Yeah, sure, all the systems cost. But put in an unfinished package and their respective value fades. I sell cars too. LOTS. To paint this thing "right" it has to be completely taken apart. BIG money. Then appropriate quality paint/interior. A "done" one of comparable quality can be EASILY bought in todays economy for that $55K. PLUS your time waiting for the thing to get finished while your money dies tied up in that pile. If you want to shake up that crowd, get away from it while doing your buying. YOUR the dreamer i look for when selling

  18. PS-be careful about throwing a curve ball, as you say, to the Ferrari crowd. They may just look at you weird instead of the desired effect you're seeking. Expensive experiment

well, lets see....first of all...we can thank the a-holes at barrit jackson for making this type of car have such a high price.
you could build that car for less than $55 k. you will still have to have this one painted...and a good paint job will set you back quite a bit.(add that to the $55 k pricetag) not to mention all the little things that you will want to change, add, or correct on the car.
i woudl think that you could pick up a finished steel willys for that kind of money. but hey, if you like the car...then buy it. like thay always say...something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it...and if you're willing to pay $55 k for it...then buy it.

  25. 512TR-Don't let these guys get to you. There are some real ***holes around here. My dad was an ***hole, and it still bothers me. I like cars, especially Ferarris(he never even cared enough to teach me to spell it right). I also like ******* Bunnies. Do you know Hef? If you are interested in adopting a son that knows where the hot young chicks are, send me a P.M.

  26. ***HOLE? I resemble that remark. He asked a question, and i'll bet you my BLUNT response saves him a grip of money. So, if you want sugarcoated ********, say Groucho, don't respond next time. Did YOUR response help the guy? I'll go with NO

If you have the 55 grand .. then buy it ... :)
Just do not expect to make a profit on it ...

Most of the folks here have old cars for the love of old cars. And we are a pretty diverse bunch. We have high rollers and then we have some on the other end of the scale. Then we have a LOT ( most ) of the folks in the middle. Most of the cars here are owner built ... with some work maybe being farmed out.

Most Hambers would rather spend 55 grand over a period of years building 5 or 6 vehicles with their own hands than just buying one vehicle for 55 grand.

You may be a fish in the wrong pond ...

Only time will tell ... ;)

  30. So was I! I guess sense of humor gets lost in type? No problem
