Vandles have gotten to it. The whole insides were gutted. It sat beside the Hubbies Bar on Hwy 16 coming in to Charlotte,NC. The guys at the bar said it used to used in the infields at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Races for a party bus.
    Had a 302 GMC 6
Drive from the top roof like the bridge on the Enterprise
The 2 front stacked front bumpers are gone. They were 57 Chrysler.
I think the roof was a 49 Hudson
The tailites were a combination of Kaiser Grille and 63 Ford tailites.
Had another fastback roof for the back of the body.
Seen it on the side of the road my whole life then one day it was gone. Anybody know where it is? It was in a cartoon in Rodders Digest. If you have pictures of this bus, send them in.

I remember reading about that thing yrs ago and thought it would be a cool motor home at the time. You should have got it and done something with it,

This is my first post. I thought I would share some of my scary photos first. To my knowledge it was never for sale. My brother (customcory) and I stopped on a Sunday morning at the Hubbies Bar and asked if I could buy the engine. They said nothing is or will ever be for sale. It was one of those kind of deals. With the kind of wheels and air bags of today it would have made a wild ride. My brother and I always called it the Hubbies Bus.

Which is why you still need to ask every little bit. The person saying that dies and the family can't wait to get rid of it.

I suspect what was left of the bus was sailed to China, and has gone through a furnace to provide you with a new skin for your washer and dryer ;)

That thing would be cool if you fixed it up as a vendor roach coach. Imagine the crowd that it would draw at the beach selling hot dogs, drinks, ice cream and the occasional ice cold adult beverage(beer and margaritas). You could rent it out for parties at the lake, take to the ranch for dove/deer season also. Yeah, it's crazy but what a conversation piece and with a Nascar history to boot. Someone could fix that interior up with all the latest in electronics stuff...really get creative and trick it out, Starship Enterprise creative. Just imagine that baby with a stage ,complete with br*** pole and dj booth parked on Congress, just down from the Continential Club, during the round-up.:D

I used to ride busses like those a lot, as a kid in Portland. The seats were wonderful, and chrome everywhere. They replaced them with an ugly bus with plastic seats. Go figure...

Yeah...I read an article about the bus shown here and the guys were saying how crude the job was. Not a futurama bus...but STILL very cool!

  16. Dan your ****ting me? you mean to say that GM in the 30's didn't use a 50's hudson and Nash grills to make a show bus?....Jim

It was built a little crude, but was well thought out styling wise. I remember walking around it thinking how would you think up the design. A lot of custom body work in this area from that time was putting existing o.e.m. parts together into a pleasing shape, with the minimum of body work. There is no telling when it was first put together.:D

You must have sent those in to Rod Action, Rod & Custom, STreet Rodder or something years ago, 'cause I remember seeing them when I had young children.
Shame it has been lost. Imagine rolling in to Talledega with that big UGLY and enjoying the party! 5 bedrooms, 2 baths, right?

I took these pics long ago but never shared them until now. Maybe other folks have stood and took the same view. It sat beside the highway where everyone could see it.

Yup the hippies did love it thats who built it and its not a real bus! That was built by joining 2 bread trucks together to form the main body the hudson on top still has parts of the ch***is in place. The interior was never finished.Got this info from a short write up in some magazine not all that long ago.The writer says it must of been some scary ride being in that lower front window at bumper height! The 2 guys who did the article got to talk to the now old dude that built this thing as a party bus thats where the info came from.

I have another picture from outside looking in. It is like standing behind the dash and looking face to face with the driver. Shows all the crazy wiring under the dash.
