After lurking here for a while I had to post after the Billetproof show. I sort of stumbled onto this site and the great people and cars. Four years ago on my way home from work one fine Saturday morning I saw some old cars on the side of Andersonville road. I admired the cars and as I passed the fairgrounds I noticed a car show was going on, I had never heard of billetproof before. I got home, took a shower and convinced my wife and 2 sons to go to the show.
Fortunately for us we had stumbled onto the first ever Billetproof Detroit. Over the last 4 years we have attended all 4 shows and have to say that its the highlight of our summer. The last 2 years we have had our 64 wagon in the show and continue to work on that car as we enjoy it. We even put off the new engine install until after the show.
The wagon is a 64 Belair 6 passenger with the 283 Poweglide. The new engine is going in sometime soon ( another 283 with a early 60's Carter WCFB and aluminum finned valve covers) and we are looking forward to some long distance trips after that. We have already rebuilt the entire suspension, steering and braking on the car so its almost completely redone mechanically. The interior is partially redone in a pleated vinyl and plans are to keep a 60's low dollar custom theme.
I grew up in a "car family". My first car was a 57 Chevy four door wagon, my second was a super sweet 62 Impala that was mildly lowered with chrome skirts and all. My Dad had several cars over the years including a 39 Ford 2 door sedan, 55 chevy with a 327 4 speed and a 57 Chevy hardtop that is now in my garage awaiting a full rebuild since it wasnt even close to safe enough to drive. He never did much with his cars other than talk about what he was going to do. I am in the process of passing down my passion for cars to my sons.
One of the greatest parts of old cars is how it brings people together that wouldnt ordinarily socialize. I met some great people at this years show and look forward to meeting more.

Not quite as "mid" as you are, I am in Fenton. I come through Midland a lot, my folks place is on 30 North of Gladwin. Hopefully when I get the fresh 283 in it I will be able to drive it up there.

Nope, not me. We do apparently live in the same town though. I replied to his post and never saw anything else. There are several cars in our town that would be right at home at Billetproof.
