you can see all sorts of water levels all the way to where the vault was full..I will be surprised if there is anything left on this car worth a dam..what a waste..should have put it inside the court house basement in a room or something..whos idea was this??

Judging by the still wet waterline, and the fact that they are pumping it, the water was still pretty high!

I had a feeling it was going to end up like this. 50 years in a concrete box (that doesn't appear to be very thick either) isn't going to keep out any moisture. anyone with a 12" thick foundation has had leaks and knows how damp a cellar can be. the combination of only being a foot below ground and right next to a main street (that I'm sure has had heavy construction as well) just made the leakage problems worse. it doesn't take much common sense to know how this was going to end up. I'm guessing the guy who built this box was shaking his head the whole time.

Yeah - probably not much left.

What did the writing in the concrete say - hard to make out in the pics - Valerie?

The vault was built like a gunnite swimming pool. It did it's job....
    It held water. LOL

Someone on the radio said they counted 18 rings of rusty water levels.

The radio said that thy are going to do some practice lifts of the car tomorrow and then remove it completely on Friday at noon for the VIPs.

Here's a link to OK Travel Net that just aired a story on it.

Sucks!!! But I knew there had to be water in there.:(

Whoops...looks like the show is live right now...guess we'll have to wait until they archive it.

Yes, the names "Valerie" and "Carol" are on the west wall of the vault.

I wonder where they are pumping all that water seeing as the motor, trans, rear, shocks etc. were full of oil

Anybody wanna bet that THIS is the car that gets Boyd-erized? This is the practice car... Seems kinda weird that they just happen to have a perfectly restored example of the exact same car, wearing the exact same colors to practice with.

What a bummer. Either way, the car should be preserved in the condition it comes out in... even if it breaks apart... and put in a museum somewhere. The car, and it's contents are a part of history no matter how you look at it.

If it was in water all of this time, the preservation process needs to begin immediately, otherwise ever minute it's exposed to the air means more damage done.

This is the car from the Dick Clark collection that is displayed in Branson. All of the cars in the collection are of 1957 vintage. There's no way they can pull the old switcharoo with as many fingers in this pie. They've already changed there hopes of how good the car will be to how bad 50 years of water makes a car look.

Rust takes oxygen and moisture...maybe with it being buried the oxygen content was low enough to keep rust down a bit.

I agree with damnfingers... if the car was submerged this whole time, it might be better to get it back under water until they figure out how to preserve it.

  30. They might have had those in the 50's... anyone know??! Although probably not the "yellow and blue make green" kind... it's toast for sure!
