ever seen a car thats been at the bottom of a lake for years, recovered?.....not pretty.........well at least the rear diff centre and axles will be ok...and the glass, I agree on it being a dick of an idea putting it in an underground concrete box......when I heard you guys mention it a while back, it was the first Id ever heard of it way over here in oz, anyway, damage from water was what I thought of first.....it could have been underground, like buried under the floor of a building etc and it may have worked.....its a sad sight,....ar well, maybe, just maybe, elvis is buckled up in the front seat ready to start her up.........Bert

What are they going to do with the vault? Any signs of Jimmy Hoffa?

I figured with how obviously well it holds water they'd make a public swimming pool out of it :D

Here is a news item from one of our noon news shows.
    http://www.kotv.com/news/local/story/?id=129390
The rumor mill is already saying that maybe it isn't all rain water, that a major sewer line runs within feet and has been leaking. I don't know, but hazmat crews were called in for fear that it was toxic (they do have a lot of gas, oil, and grease to deal with) and the police have roped it off with crime scene tape. If might be kinda fitting if it did fill with sewer water, the could call it "Boyd Coddington meets the creature from the Shitty Lagoon" :D

    Toxic Water???? WTF???

Maybe that is why they pumped the first couple feet of water out of the vault down the street into the storm drains????

I've always assumed it would be a big ,crusty dark orange rust flake.

Maybe Boyd and the other car are "Plan B" so the "winner" actually gets a replacement car instead of 1000 lb of rust and glass.

Water is made up of oxygen. It would have been better to have put the car in a rubber bag, but its been completely under the water, so I too am curious as to just how bad it actually looks.

The different colors of water marks on the walls could be rust, but then again, Oklahoma has all sorts of crap just under the surface of the soil, and that can cause just about anything to happen with regards to the different colors of water located in the vault.

I'd still like to see it, but I'll probably catch it after its been dumped in a junkyard for crushing.

I have seen steel beer cans over 70 years old recovered from the bottom of lakes in pristine condition. If the concrete box held out the oxygen, it will be somewhat fixable. A year or so ago Bob Ballard (the Titanic guy) found a ship in the black sea that was something like 3000 years old in good shape because of the low oxygen level in the water at the depth they found it.

Judging by the color of the water and the thick rings on the walls, it looks like there was plenty of oxygen in there.

I remember reading when I was a kid that there is a very large room somewhere in Georgia that has a huge time capsule that includes a 1940 Ford flatbed truck. It's supposed to be opened in the the year 6000 or something like that. Anyone know anything about this one?

Wow. I didn't really consider that. Plus they put extra gas and oil in the vault "in case those things weren't around in 2007". Ironic that a city government might have to skirt the EPA to dig up their own time capsule.

"Congrats! You've just won this rusty 57 Plymouth! And by the way, the City wants it out of your driveway in 30 days or you'll be fined. Plus, here's your 30k cleanup bill from the EPA."

Either way, it's a great story and thanks Crab Man and everyone there for sharing the photos and details.
