lol. " well, we arent going to be able to get it started, because the motor is all rusty and stuff."
wow, boyd. Way to captivate the audience with such hi-tech reasoning.

By the way, you have to go to the last page to start at the beginning. Don't ask me why, I had to have my daughter put them into photobucket for me and show me how to post the link!!!

    OK,

    Somebody owns this car...

As per the original rules that the person who guessed the population in Tulsa in 2007 would win the car.

    The question now is?

How long will it be before we see it, parts of it or paraphanlia for sale on Ebay???

A couple of weeks or a month at the most????
Sure as shit the car is going to be hosed off and sold in whole or in part (or many "Collector" part's?) on ebay.

    Crab,

Hang your digital camera underneath the car and let it do the rest..

Do us a favour and Try and get as many undercarraige shots as you can...No need to look thru the lens just point and shoot from down on the floor.

It would be interesting to see the unpainted floors and the bottom side of the trunk and real tail fins etc. Frame and springs/hangers and all that jazz you know?

And how about trying to apply a light to medium pressure on a lower body panel with a thumb to see if you can feel or hear the body panel moving or crackling from rust?? How sturdy or thick is the metal???

Maybe that's to much to ask but it would be sure as hell more interesting to see the worst of the worst rather than the regular pics we have seen today...
I'd test the waters if I had a chance, Just think, You'ld be the only guy that really knows for sure that the body is strong or weak steel or a diamond in the rough.....

this tape will self distruct in five seconds.....

They will go through the names of the people who gave their guesses of the population. They will try to locate the winner of the car or if that person is deceased, then they will try to locate their heirs. If they can not be located, then it will by Oklahoma statutes, go as unclaimed property for FIVE YEARS. After that, they said they did not know what would happen. It may very well go to the Oklahoma Historical Society. (I hope) They didn't clean off the car because they wanted everyone to see it as it was in the vault. The "crew did very minimal "things" to it, to get it ready for the evening. All I can say is I was right there on the side of the stage during the event right in front of the tables where the artifacts were and it was so awsome! I thought I would be let down because of everything I had seen previously, but not so!!! Looking at the car and artifacts up close after everyone else had gone was such a wonderful experience. I looked kinda closely at the body in spots and you can see the paint. It had bubbles in it, I guess, from what I was told, where water had gotten under the paint. It was just incredible. Everybody can say whatever they want about the car...it was just so cool to be able to see it up close and how well it actually looked on the outside considering what it has been through. BTW, the kid holding the leaf spring was the grandson of the Building Operations director (my fiance's boss)of Tulsa County who was the main guy in charge of digging the car up. The kid was just holding the part up for everyone to be able to get a picture of it. The actual part will go to who ever ends up being the winner of the car. I am so glad I got to experience this "historical" event, even if it didn't meet everyone's expectations.

I think it's been both fascinating and good reading.

I Just wish I could have been their you yell obscenities at boyd while he mumbled thru his live TV broadcast. I could have been the guy yelling on live TV and being physically thrown out of the arena. Yeah, I can see it know, my 15 minutes of fame - I'm A Star!

  15. i think it will be a while before you see it for sale anywhere. as you said , someone has to own it (to sell it) ...who that person is will probabilly be determined by the courts

I'm glad I'm here to see it too! and it did meet my expectations, although it would have been nice if they'd kept the californian's paws off it so we could all get to enjoy the experience of seeing it unwrapped for the first time. That's the only part that pisses me off.

  17. GREAT! Those are the best pics i've seen so far. NOW, does anyone know if/when they'll show pics of the car washed off? Not restored, but just washed off? I'd like to see just how bad it really is.

I think that the best thing for the winner to do would be donate it to the local historical museum. Leave it in the as-found state for eternity.

You do have to wonder how much it might fetch at Barret-Jackson.

It does absolutely amaze me that more thought wasn't put into the vault and the protection of the car before it was lowered in. If it had rolled out of there looking brand new, would the thread have been this long?

Who needs a beer covered in rusty feces while I'm up?

People (and boyd) keep saying things like "the frame is still good" I thought Chrysler (except for the Imperial) were unibody in '57...

    Am I wrong?

If I was in charge I would leave half the car as is to show how it came out and then the other half (lenght wise) wash it clean to see the actual rot that accured. Maybe put it on a rotating display table too.

I want to see what it looks like cleaned up and if its worth saving now is the time to get it completely apart and dipped before the rust starts to eat it up now that its out of the water. Jeff

Kinda makes me pissed at them for ruining a perfectly good car like that! Why didnt they just put it on jax, throw a cover over it and park it in a garage?! Or at least given it away in '57 for someone to drive for 50 years. It would prolly be in as good or better shape than it is now. Just seems like such a waste. Freakin idiots! But not sure why I even care...

Boyd introducing his crew seconds after the car was unveiled was pathetic !

For once he looked out of place, nervous, and at a lost for words !

In my opinion they should of given that job to a local hot rod or classic car restoration shop. Sort of...keeping it all Tulsa or Oklahoma. Know what i mean?

That's a really good idea for preservation. I imagine whoever gets it will have it on ebay within a few weeks if they don't sell it to Boyd outright.

Man would it be wierd if someone on this board ended up with it?

Wasnt the whole idea behind this to drum up tourism dollars for Tulsa (then and now)? Sounds like it worked. Probably the cheapest single day tourism gimmick in recent history.
