So i've had this idea floating around in my head for the past 3 months. I want to build a car i'm not going to say "Rat Rod" or "traditional rod" just a car, a cool ass car. I have 2 bodies at my disposal a '35 Chevy 2dr Sedan and a '29 Model A 2dr Sedan. I think i want to go with the model A, leave it unchopped, '32 ford gas tank out back, get rid of the front tank. Use either a 223 Ford I6, or a 320 Buick Straight 8. I really think the buick engine would be something cool, and completly differnt. if i were to use it i would make an intake and use 2 holley 1904 glass bowls, with 2 hudson twin-h-power air cleaners. I would also make a header for it. I want to use a suicide front end set up. Interior wise i would go with a bench seat wrapped in white vinyl or white vinyl with zebra inserts. For paint i want to use Hot Rod Flatz Sublime, or Speed Blue, with thier Urethane Clear, and then for wheels i want 15 inches steelies with salt flat caps. the wheels would be painted to match the car in either the sublime or speed blue. I will be using the 9inch rear out of my '60 F100, possibly the 4spd tranny and the front axel. I also want to icorperate a GTO hood tach, and a few other little interesting odds and ends. i also want to use coker white walls with my wheel and cap combo. still undecided on ride hight or rear suspension set up. anyways tell me what you think. your input would be appreciated:cool:

I think you should post an intro. And don't you dare part out that effie. Do the truck first. It's bitchin. The 29 can wait.

I bought most of a garage full of a old hot rodder's cars.

Mostly 60's and 70's stuff, but he done some funky animal fur inserts in his car, Jaguar, Cheetah, etc.

    It'll come back someday, haha.

The effie has no title and has a million dollars worth a rust that needs to be fixed. but i do agree it's bitchin' 57-60 effies where my favorite, no fat fenders for me. and i'm not sure how to go about getting a title when it the guy who owned died and it was willed to his duaghter but his brother took it.

i just thought the zebra would be kind of odd ball and different i like it more than saddle blanket and the fancy leather some guys are using. I could use that old school metallic vinyl if i could find it.

How about just using the whole frame out of the F-100?

dreaming is free, actually buiding something takes talent and time and money, whole lotta money. Are you dreaming or building?

i'm not to sure about the whole from from the effie, with major modification maybe. i have some duece rails that i got from my uncles last failed project. I was planning on using those with the effie straight axle, 9inch out back on leaf springs, then i have to figure out how to mount my 4spd on my straight 8. i haven't really got that far, i've just got most of the stuff. I still need to think of a way to make the headlights turn with the wheels also.

Dont use that axle! You can get model A axles cheap! Those big axles dont look right on any car IMO! But Good luck either way, the rest definately sounds KOOL!

I usually only dream when i sleep. I'm not sure what you would call gathering all the things needed to start building. I don't really want to start building until i have a firm idea in my head. i know some things may change along the way due to trial and error, just like i allready tossed out my idea of using a 30 gallon beer keg for a gas tank. I do know that it should be a pretty easy build when i have my idea finished. And with my dad helping me it should go smoothly *knock on wood* so to answer your question i am not dreaming or building, simpely finalizing an idea

I'll look into an A axel than, i just thought the effie axel would be different, kind of odd ball.

Its just a couple of inches, I think its more about the placement of the axle that makes it look wide/narrow and such. But still, that axle will look a little wide under the car. If you can find the earlier style axle that'd be fine, but I've seen both used.

i think i'll try the effie axel out first, and if it doesn't look right, i have a torch.

  14. Either have an accomplished artist,or try yourself,to do a concept drawing. It's much cheaper and faster to try an idea on paper first. Then you also have a plan to work towards,so you keep a focus, instead of changing direction with each new idea.;)

at the risk of pointing out the obvious the F-100 axle is parrallel leaf. you running parrallel leaf front end? or did miss the post about semi elipticals..

check the width on that truck rear..

all cars start with thinking and dreams. don't know why someone would question that aspect of your post.

I saw this car somewhere on here earlier, its an actual color photo from the late 40's or 50's or so. Looks like it has paralell leafs (painted red?) and the frame kinda resembles an F-1 or 40's Chevy truck.

I'm thinking about going this route.

Amen, I've been dreaming for years. I woke up a few months ago and realized I finally had the hard to find parts, the time, and the money to start making it happen. It's been the most frustrating and most rewarding thing I've ever done. Keep dreaming, man...

Thanks for info and stuff y'all. i am not running the effie axel now i just got a duece axel at an auction today. The rear is fine and i will be running leafs out back, and i also have tried sketching it out but, i'm not that good at drawing it looks like hell so i was going to go down to the body shop behind my dad's shop and see if he can sketch me out something. I'm not sure if i could find some one who would sketch it out for free. I do thank every body for the advice and support and hopefully i can gather all my crap and build a pretty sweet car. And by the way does anyone know where i could find Hudson Twin-H-Power air cleaners? and how to go about mating the ford 4spd to the straight 8? Also any ideas on cool/odd-ball grills
