A student of mine said her sister has one (condition unknown as of yet) All there no motor? I could get it for less then 200 bucks. Are the basic parts hard to find? Are they as rare as they say they are?

This could be my next project??? Pics anything would be helpful?

    Thanks, BS

This is one of them posts that seperates a REAL HARD CORE CAR GUY ...... and an ON LINE CAR GUY..

Any true HOT ROD person would know ... instead of being here asking this silly question........

You should be there LOADING up the Willys before some High Scool kid buys it and turns it into a 4X4.

If it is indeed a 41 I could tell you right now to buy it without even seeing it. But Chances are, it is probably a 51. It would be like Ol Tingler's project then......

Yep, if it is indeed a '41, buy it! Peddle it if you prefer, but buy it. If it looks like a Jeep, you get to decide alone.

We don't need another Tingler project out in the world do we? I'm almost for- sure its a 41 after talking to the student who is 10 years older then me....I even showed some pics. online and she said yep thats it... wish me luck.... people in easterh KY don't like to sell thing if your not family...

Love the new project you got

    BS

  7. If its a '41....Buy it....Thats all you need to know!

There's a guy locally here who pulled one outta a riverbed & threw a PINTO! engine & trans in it....sold it on for the best part of $12,000 and it really was a POS

  8. Yep, that will get you a lot of friendly, helpful answers.

You want production find a Willys book or the Standard Catalog of American Trucks that Krause put out. I'm sure production was under 10,000, probably under 5,000, if it is in fact a 41 and not a Jeepster.

Good steel fenders are worth easily $1000 each, if I could buy a '41 pickup for $200 I'd have bought it without even thinking twice.

The tin used on most Willys is so cheap they won't hold paint, at least thats what the high-dollar guys who have built them tell me. I can't argue, since the '37 sedan I have some of the original paint is curling up and peeling off right now. You can't give a frigging sedan away, I don't know wether to cut it in half and make a pickup out of it, or just take it to the crusher, get my $100 or so, and be done with it.

I do know that if I scrap it I'm going to have some fun with a shotgun and the tractor ruining every part on it before I haul it off, though.

Thanks I will buy if it is truely a 41 willys, I just some things to look for in the different years??????

  10. I'm gonna jump right in with some facts.... Who gives a rats ass the production numbers? If it's a 37 to 42 Willys pickup, buy the sumbitch. You aren't planning on restoring it are you?

Have you been paying attention to the popularity of gasser style cars? Have you heard of Willys gassers? You can buy any missing parts to build a rod or a racer.

Like the fellow before sort of said... if it looks like a Jeep, who cares? BUT If it's nice and sexy and round, BUY IT, then find out the production numbers.

The trucks seem to be rarer than the coupes, and the coupes go for insane money! $15,000 isn't unheard of for a total piece of shit coupe...............to the right buyer, that is.

The grille is different from 40-41, as is the actual center piece between the fenders. Be warned, if you plan on actually building the thing, Willys parts ain't cheap...............but, if you need sheetmetal, I know a guy that can hook you right up!

I just did an appraisel on a 40 original 52k miles and pretty good shape missing a grille and will run 0 rust not damaged or missing a single other thing at 22,700 dollars

  19. At that price, you really can't go wrong!Even if you end up not building it,you'll probably make some $$ on resale. But then again they make very cool hot rods!!

That's cheap compared to what some of the gasser guys are spending on a car to START with...................then adding 15-20k in metalwork, before paint, plus an engine and chassis! I know of at least 2 guys who paid $10-15k for their basic car, then added $25,000 in metalwork, then had it painted, after putting in a custom chassis and a drivetrain too. Yeah, I know the guy doing the metalwork.......and making a decent living at it (he does turn out top notch metal though).

Personally, I find that on the verge of being insane. Makes a '32 3-window look inexpensive!

You sure don't- I teach art but it seems you need a history lesson. If you live in Kentucky your not a Yankee dumb ass. Kentucky is south of the Mason Dixon Line.

So, how come the two smart-ass replies are from Cali. Hamb members. Do all of you guys think your gods gift to hot rodding. I was in California last summer and I was not impressed at all let’s just leave it that. When you’re in Kentucky next time look me up I’ll teach/show you some southern hospitality. LOL. biscuits and gravy

Things you spelled wrong- also some are not words at all: Apparently, Professor, aints, gots, ta and gud.

I hope this improves your impression of college professors in KY… I was just spelling this way so guys like you would understand…LOL

If you don’t have any thing to post about willys trucks then don’t reply. PM me ! BS

The number of post's is what happens when ya get injured at work and havent been able to go back for over a year & have prolly another year before i go back.

Funny thing is, in that year i have also 85% finished my daughters '27 T Roadster p/u ...And work on the sport coupe in my avatar.

Whats collage got to do with anything?

I don't recall any prerequisite of having to know all the popular hot rod models was necessary at this forum.
I can't understand why we have to personally attack one another for lack of understanding or knowledge.
the strength of this board comes from the combination of talents and experience from everyone here.
I think you are out of line.

    All the negativity aside.....

I bet there are less than 1,000 Willys pickups of any year from 37-41 left AT ALL. Even one single rusty door from one is worth the $200. Call and tell them NOW that if it is what they say it is, you will take it. Or call me and tell me where it is. :)

  30. Ahh, don't crush it! I think they would make a cool little pickup if you cut it down some! Think it would fit on an S10 chassis? I have a few of them around.
