Leave it as is. If you want a more sinister look, paint the roof to match. Paint the wheels, too.

    Hello Slick,
There is a new paint (primer)that I used and its very good, but sets up like paint. If your body is preped right you dont even need to sand and polish. leaves a soft saton finish that looks very nice. Most paint people know this new product

    Von Rigg...

Sounds like you need to 'de-confuse' the car first. Since it's slammed and has lakes on it already, I'd suggest aiming for a late 50's kustom look for the car. Go get a few old hot rod mags, look at what the sytling cues are - and go from there. Pick a theme - and stick with it...you'll be happier with the result thataway.

Flat black has its place, but it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that a shortcut is the way to go. It isn't - unless you love the idea of satin paint. If you do - I'd suggest getting a chip chart from the period you're building the car to - and choose a color. Flattening agent can be added to any color formulation at minimal cost - so you're not limited to black if satin is the way you wanna roll.

Me? I'd opt for a white top and a satin salmon bottom. Takes a real man to roll in something that different - and your daughter will flat LOVE it! Mine did - I did a '56 chrysler thataway back when the kids were bitty - they still remember it fondly 15 years later.

Chuck the salmon idea is cool..alot of cutting in tho due to the fact this car was all original black the interior is black and grey..not sure the salmon would go..but i get what your saying about the theme..that was kinda what i was hoping to get out of this post..some one with the eye for the 50's theme on a 4 door I want to keep the white roof. the lakes..the skirts..and all the trim..its just not sure about scalops..flat..gloss..something 50's era? I am how ever getting alot of loose this and loose that..it's obvious the stickers are going..wishing for ideas like YOU had..didnt pick on what the car looked like now, but had a vision for where it could go..thanks

If the int is black and gray, salmon pink will look fine! Keep the red wheels, do a couple of accent scallops in white and have a striper throw down some red stripes to make the pink/white 'pop.' I have pix somewhere of the '56 - but it was back in the pre-digi days. Cutting in isn't as hard as you'd think...

Suicide doors are pointless, and never let 8 year olds customize your car, get 'em some crayons and have 'em redecorate the bathroom.

here again thanks to chuck..he didnt dog on it..he didnt play it out..he gave good advise as to where to go with it and didnt dwell on what it looks like now..the whole idea here was to explore where to go with it..not what it looks like at this point.

    You gotta start somewhere, man.

pick a theme and follow it thru; it's okay to have your kids involved in the process; I'm having my 18 year old (she was two when I did the '56) paint the reveals on the Track Roadster so's Safariknut can stripe the body next week.

Nads is givin' you shit puerly 'cuz YOU need to pick the direction the car is going in. I agree with the door thing; it's a bitch to swap hinges for minimal benefit. Pop bought a '41 Merc cheap on account of the suicide doors allowed the PO's kid to swing out into the breeze one summer evening - the car sat for ten years after that. Don't muck with the doors - concentrate on making an integrated final result.

The stickers are tacky and cool at the same time - tacky as is - but cool that you'd let your kid stick 'em on.

yeah..the door thing was a friend of mines idea..i wasnt too keen on it eather..especially with kids in the back you cant ever tell if there messing with the handles or if they shut it good enough..think i am going to shave the handles anyway so that they are gone ..the reason for the tint at the time was to try an attempt to keep the cab temperatures down..here in michigan it can get killer..she was bummed that her hard work was short lived as far as the stickers went..but i told her that it was time for a change since we were changing alot on the car anyway..she took it ok

Randy, relax. Welcome to getting your ass reamed on the HAMB! As for jumping off a cliff, I tried it in TN and nearly drowned but it was fun!

Your car is sweet. Ditch the stickers, get 54 Lee lenses for the rear, screw the doors, lose the handles, drop the ass, and get some wide whites. Chuck's right. If you want to see a period car, check his out. Nothing newer than 48 or so and it is smoking.

Take a look through here and search the pics of 53/54 cars to see some awesome ideas. I personally love the seaweed flames but some bad assed scallops would look great. Leave it black, leave it gloss, stay ahead of the trend, not behind them. Your ideas you had on the trim should be cool, try them out. Think about a flaked top as well or one with some nice lace.

for my dodge, i asked some people, and i get the whole "ohhh, your a rat rod guy" i do understand that there are reasons for the stereotypes, if i may, on cars. like traditional, kustom, gasser and so on, but it almost reminds me of high school or maybe it seems like that to me because some of us on here are in or just got out of high school, but you should go with what you like and people on this thread has stated it as well. like on my car, i am going with a flat black. its pretty cheap, i need to do alot of body work but i dont like the color that is on it. might as well make it a color i like. and ill be driving it and people with this :eek:h shit, look, its another rat rod" but fuck 'em. i dont want to wait years untill my car is in perfect condition, i want to drive it NOW, so it will not be complet.

moral of the story is, do what you want. its a good idea to look at magazines, it gives us ideas. lets us know what we can do, and what ideas we can take and change to our liking. but i dont really want to fit into a catagory, although you cant help it, and thats fine too. just biuld the car on what you like.

oh and by the way, i think you should keep the stickers as long as you can, i think your doughter will love you for it.
