Just what the ***le says, I need HELP! I need to ship a car to Malaysia from Ohio by air ASAP. Anyone have any suggestions or connections?
Normally I ship to a port and then by boat but this time that won't work. The price quotes I have gotten already are ASTRONOMICAL, like $10-$15,000!
I can get the car to any airport in the USA to ship from. It is just little Nash Rambler convertible.
Thanks for any help in advance!:D

    Has their check cleared yet??:D

Didn't one of the Ridler contenders ship their car to Detroit via FedEx or UPS this past March because they ran outta time? Have you tried calling those two companies?

Contact Rob Thomas, he does it all the time.

That is, if you are serious.

No, actually it is ligit this time!

    Here is the story...
I guess Malaysia gained their independence (from who or what I have no idea) in 1957. Their "president" rode in a 1951 Nash convertible in the freedom parade. This August they are having a 50th anniversary parade and want another 1951 Nash convertible. They are ligit and will wire the money once the shipping is arranged.

FedEx does not ship by air there. I've pretty much exhausted all of my normal shipping routes. I sell overseas often but have always shipped by boat without a problem.

So, no I'm not nigerian or falling for the old overage scam....so far....

I think Kalitta's service is located at Metro airport west of Detroit. Not that far from you.

I don't know their website, but try Evergreen air freight. When I was in the USAF, we used them for contract flights when backlog freight was too much for normal transport. They used 747s that were set up for cargo, and could carry/transport up to 32 feet long and 9 feet wide.

Yes, I am serious. Thanks for the lead but he only ships by boat.

Good idea but unfortunately none of the "Big 3" FedEx, DHL or UPS ship vehicles. Why not, I have no idea....

I am trying to find a number for him now, thanks!

Also a good idea. Unfortunately no airlines will accept freight without a forwarder. Bummer.....

    Keep the ideas coming, thanks!:D

Sounds like you have checked them out, but you may want to open a "sub account" to receive the wire transfer, at your bank, or make sure you do not have any funds in the account number you share with them...my 2 cents...

You don't suppose that an actual country would have the resources to arrange shipping for an item that is so urgent it needs to be air freighted. I mean, the president will ride in this vehicle, and his/her staff could have arranged for transportation yesterday. But instead, they're going to rely on the seller who's never arranged this kind of transport, instead of government staffers. Sniff sniff do you smell something fishy?

  18. I agree with Shifty. With a name like that he's prolly got a good nose for a scam. :D

I'll ask at work tomorrow who we use to ship our cars by air. We're always shipping Jeeps somewhere by air.

I recently air freighted 4,000 lbs of parts by air. I think it was Circle Freight or Circle Logistics. Let you know tomorrow.

having been in the shipping business, for 26 years one question would get your answer,

    that is

dear country, what cargo company do you use? and would you connect me with them, thank you seller of car

When I was employed for 33 years at United Air lines, I saw many cars on pallets flying as belly cargo in 747s. Singapour Air Lines serves Malaisa and flys '47s I believe UA is also flying there. Don't know the cost.

Malaysia was a British colony until 1957.

Still, this whole arrangement does not sound legitimate.

Do as others have suggested --
Make the Malaysian party arrange shipment, and consider doing the whole deal through a broker.

Personally i would just have it flown to a mainland country it would be easier to send it to china or something like that. more than likely something or that size wont be as easy to ship to Mylasia as it would be to a bigger country(more flights, more cargo, ect. would make it an easier task), than just have it sent by sea to Mylasia. or just send via water the whole way

this'll sound dumb, but being oter leads are not panning out... try getting ahold of somebody at Hot Rod magazine, IIRC they just mentioned in the newest issue that they air shipped the hot rod special to OZ to run the salt flats there, their lead probably ain't any cheaper, they said they pissed away 30 large to not race.

Wire scams happen all too often. The story doesn't sound right at all. It's possible that a scammer is trying to cash in on the 50th anniversary.

I'd try contacting the Malaysian government to verify the story first, as well as talking to your bank and as suggested, use a broker to protect yourself.

Man, who cares about this ****, just let her get burned.
Sounds like a scam to everyone, but you. How could a country not arrange shipping themselves, this has scam written all over it...

OK, thanks for the advice. I have a few shippers contacted and will probably make a decision today. If you know anyone else though that hasn't been mentioned on this thread let me know.

Thank you all for your concern, however, I work for a company that sells cl***ic cars overseas all of the time.

To dispell a common money wire myth....
If you give a person your account info to wire money they CANNOT wire money back out of it. That is like a bum going into your bank and trying to take money out of your account. Before any funds go anywhere the bank contacts you and makes you sign an authorization form. If your bank doesn't do that then I would change banks quickly.

As for why they didn't arrange the shipping, who knows. It is common practice in this business for the seller to arrange the shipping. Like I said earlier, we usually send everything everywhere by boat but can't this time since we are short on time. A restoration shop is the one that was in charge of finding the car and purchasing it, so it isn't actually "the government".

IF it would turn out not to be ligit I would be very surprised.

As for HAMB relay, they have been pretty amazing but I think pulling this off would take the cake!

And on a very sad note, Kalitta Air must take care of flying soldiers who have p***ed in the war home from the big Army base in Delaware. They brought home a buddy of mine this morning who died in Iraq. I'm sure they are paid but what an honorable job for a company.
