A/C condenser ???

If you have no room to put a condenser in front of the raditor can it be put behind it?

 

it can if you don't want the a/c to work very well.

 

I have a 4 core raditor and it will not fit up front at all what can i do?

 

If you have room to mount the condenser behind the radiator instead of in front, why not relocate the radiator back?

Just a thought...

 

It is in a 32 ford shell.

well you can relocate the condensor anywhere as lonf as you have air moving across it. if you put it behind the radiator its just going to pull heat through it and through the condensor. mount the condensor somewhere else, and mount an electric fan to it

 

Old style VW bugs had the condensor located under the floor with 2 fans and a nice screened protective shield. A friend mounted one under his 38 Chevy coupe and never had a problem except chipping the icicles off his mustache on a long trip.

 

These guys are right, I have a Ford E350 van/bus conversion that has a Carrier condensing unit under the floor, with a vent to the driver's side. Dual electric fans pull air thru it when the AC is running. The vehicle doesn't have a condenser in front of the radiator.

Sounds like it might be the way to go.

 

My 37 Ford had the condensor up front--always ran hot--so I made a bracket to mount it under the r/f fender,behind the tire. It's at a 45' angle with a screen to keep out debris--twin electric fans wired to the compressor--fans come on anytime the compressor is on. Been this way for about 15 years --gets so cold, it spits ice out the vents sometimes!

 

most definately do not put it behind the radiator. Probably wouldnt cool at all. Got to have the coolest air across it possible to work.

 

Oh and by the way with A134 you are lucky to get a 40 degree differential between the outside air and inside air. If your trying to use 160-200 degree air off of the back of the radiator to cool the ac condensor then you will not accomplish anything.

 

Are you guys aware that you can buy radiators with condensors built into the radiator? Spendy but compact and super clean looking

Had a condensor under my model A coupe and worked fair at low speed but the faster ya went the warmer the air got. Finally made the room in the 32 shell and worked a lot better.

 

There are a/c condensers available that are to be remote mounted and have a shrouded electric fan mounted to the cond. I used one on my 46 for quite awhile, everyone told me the a/c would work better with a cond mounted in front of the radiator. So I changed it. No difference in performance.

On the 32 Coupe we moved the grille insert forward about 1/2" or so in the shell. That allowed us the room for the "universal" condenser provided by our A/C supplier. We did have to slightly modify the stiffener bar across the middle of the insert but no biggie.
The grille insert polished edge protrudes slightly from the mounting cavity but actually gives the grille a slightly different and not unpleasant look. We like it anyway.

 

Whats a fender?

 

When I got my car it had a remote mount condenser with electric fan and shroud. It had two major drawbacks. It was too small and unfortunately it was mounted on the fenderwell right next to the engine. Once the engine warmed up the thing simply could not keep the car cool enough. If you go that route find a location underneath the car that can snag some fresh air.
