Hey, Shortly after I posted some pics from Paso this year, I received an email from an editor at FHM Magazine in Estonia. He was interested in using my pics for a piece he was doing on kustoms. I was kinda surprised (and a bit skeptical), cuz my pics weren't that great, and I had no idea how he came across the pics on the HAMB so fast (I didn't think any of the search engines would have picked them up yet). So we exchange a few emails, and I sent him thirty or so, high-res pics with descriptions. I thought it was cool that someone wanted to use my pics, but pretty much wrote the whole thing off as goof. A coupla months go by and I haven't heard anything, so just for fun, I dropped him some email earlier this week. Well, today he sends me a postscript (pdf) file of the complete article from the July issue of FHM-Estonia. It looks pretty slick! Unfortunately, I don't read a lick of Estonian, so I can't tell much about the article. It does appear that he used the descriptions I sent him (easy to tell by English words that were not translated). There seems to be a short interview on page 5, with the guy in the picture from page 1. Any Nordic/European HAMBers recognize him? One thing I did find ironic is that the story is laced with adverti*****ts for billet wheels and steering wheels. LOL I guess someone has to pay the bills? Here's a link to a pdf of the article if you want to check it out. Link to July Issue of FHM-Estonia Kustom Article And yes, I sent pictures of my own ****ing cars (I feel like a ****). I really had no idea the pics were actually gonna end up in print. At the same time, I didn't tell him which of the thirty pics to use. So... I guess it just shows that Estonians have particularly good taste in rods and customs. -murph
Just think, if you were a single man, you could get all kinds of hot Estonian orcabetty *** now! Hope me and KT didn't talk you to ****in' death friday night!
Do you realize we shot the **** and drank for over four hours? Holy ****. I was worried KT might be bored, but instead she drove the conversation. And I was hanging on every word too... anything to drown out that gawd-awful cover band. But you know, in the grand scheme of things, cold beer and ****py music is waaay better than hanging out with the in-laws. -murph
Yeah, when we left she was all "i think we talked too much"....I said "WE?!" monroe rocks, they've got the best cover bands and the best male motley crue groupies!
Amen murph........or should I say, Rev. murph.........kool how this world is getting smaller every day and people else where are starting to dig our type of rides!!
Yeah, it really is cool in some ways, but especially as it pertains to traditional rods and customs. A quick search of the HAMB will result in car show pics from all over Europe, New Zealand, Australia. The Japanese are building some killer rides too. Looks like it's time for Eastern Europe to join the fray (although I suspect there have been guys wielding the torch and paint gun for some time now). -murph
Hey. Just found this thread. The guy on the page 1 is me. Spreading the gospel in Estonia is kinda my little mission..... Actually very few people here know about rods and kustoms, and I'im posting pics and links to some threads in some forums here. The guy, who did this article, is my friend and I suggested You to him, cause I had seen some of Your pics here. Hope You don't mind. Anyway, I hope that one day I can make a thread here about my projects too. Now there's just nothing yet to show, but I will progress with them step-by-step. ´70 Gaz 24 is my project and ´66 Volvo Amazon is my daily at the moment. Ok, started to blabber too much..... Greets, Jarmo (Chopper).
well done Murph you got a Kustom feature in a mainstream, non car magazine in Europe.....speading the word indeed...Congrats man
Hey. This is Gaz 24 Volga: http://www.volga.ee/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6 Years of makeing 1968-1986. I'm thinking about lowering it, shaving all handles, emblems, driprails etc; wide whitewalls, custom grille and lots of more. For now I have only shaved handles and driprails and her *** is clean now too. Very much still to do..... Edit: You found the picture already. Mill is 2.4 fourbanger, 98 hp.
Holy **** this is fargin cool! Earlier in the thread, we were talking about how the internet is making the world a smaller place. And now Jarmo posts that he is the actual guy in the article! Very cool to hear from you, and thanks for solving the mystery of how your buddy ever found my Paso pics. I really never thought the pics/descriptions I sent would make it into print, but was extremely impressed with the article your FHM editor friend put together. (Please keep in mind I can't read Estonian - but the layout looked first rate). Keep on spreading the gospel in Estonia and looking forward to your continued posts on the HAMB! Here's another link to a pdf of the article, in case anyone missed it at the top of this thread: Link to July Issue of FHM-Estonia Kustom Article -murph
Very cool...... Viva La HAMB !!! Shame they didn't send you a print copy of the Mag, I imagine the local girls would be pretty easy on the eye.
Isn't it amazing how like minded people can be brought together in this day and age? Viva La HAMB indeed.
This is soooo cool. To think that like minded people on this shrinking earth can meet and discuss our common p***ion (our cars) on The HAMB is just awesome.........many, many common bonds. Too bad we can't get together and fix the other **** that this world has screwed up.
Hey. Just wanted to let You know about news of my friends brown Moskvitch (shown on the .pdf that Murph linked above). It has now Opel 2.0 fourbanger with two Dellorto's. Lowered. BabyMoon's and chrome trim-rings. Fiat's tri-bar headlights. Custom made gauges (made from Opel gauges). Body is stock, but channeled. So, it's kinda mild. Anyway, hee's the pics: http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/eest.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/eest2.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/tagant.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/mootor.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/mootor2.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/moon.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/seest.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/seest2.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/esituli.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/kellad.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/suunad2.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/suunad.jpg http://www.plastic*****.com/mosse/peegel.jpg I hope the fact that the car is not american made is not giving You guys the headache. We (my friend and I) like american customs and rods a lot, but it just feels more exciting to make one from other cars. Greetings, Jarmo Tallinn, Estonia.
Jarmo: Damn that thing is cool, I think you and your buddy should ship it over for next years Paso show! It would get a lot of looks thats for sure. Do you ever get to any of the shows in Germany, France or the UK?
We're trying to go to Forssa Pick-Nick, in Finland, this year. I'm trying to get my Volvo Amazon there too (tryin', at least). Sure would like to be in Paso or other shows in USA, UK, France, Sweden, etc, etc, etc, but I guess our wallet says NO this year
"I hope the fact that the car is not american made is not giving You guys the headache." Jarmo Tallinn, Estonia.[/QUOTE] Nothing that easy on the eyes could possibly give anyone a headache! Very nice car, no matter where it came from. GV
I have some pics from this spring, but there's nothing good to see yet. Looks really bad still. I bought new engine from Finland this year, ex-owner said, it's Historic Race Ryhmä I (Stage 1?) engine. It's under the hood now, but still needs some work (settings between the ignition and carbs). Body is in bad con***ion and the car looks really lousy right now, I hope to get to fix it soon. Plans are big, but in my case, they are progressing really slowly http://www.plastic*****.com/volvo/vaade3.jpg Temporary wheels. Got set of these, like in the back, from Finland few times ago. Needs sandblasting and painting. Scallops are my first attempt, have really furry outlines. This is the new engine, sitting under the hood now. http://www.plastic*****.com/volvo/uus_mootor.jpg I'm hoping to make some progress soon.
