Wow... I've done some decending at an honest 50mph+ and I have to say... I don't know if I believe 70mph. Especially after riding a metric century? If it's true my hat is off. Not only for having the stones to do it, but for finding more than one or two others to join in.

I was seventeen and immortal. My buddy was a year younger, and the rest of the bunch were all under twenty-one. A few fell back about halfway down the hill - they pulled out of their tucks and sat up... probably dropped them down to about forty-five or fifty. I just gripped the frame of my borrowed Cinelli with my knees, took a line of sight over the top of the stem and held on for dear life. I was a BMX and mountainbike racer - I didn't see how anybody could get hurt on anything as safe as pavement. A couple of weeks later, I took a spill, and realized why roadies shave their legs: the road rash isn't nearly as bad without hair to help rip the skin off.
