Getting very close to the first drive, wiring, brakes, clutch, etc all done, need to put the door latches in, bolt the floorboards down, and get gl*** for the windshield, then take it to my friends shop for some exhaust on thursday. Still many rough edges, but i'll drive it a while before I even think about paint or interior, I finally got a deal on a set of artillery wheels, so the next money I get will go to Coker for some 7.50s or 8.20s and probably 6.00s on front. That'll set paint and interior back for a while, but I think it'll look great with the artillerys. hard to believe almost 2 years to get it back where it was before Katrina, and its hurricane season once again, but you can bet it won't be in the garage if we get another storm...

Thanks for the kind words guys, couldnt let a little wind and water stop a long time dream, thought I would get my first drive today, I had planned to get the exhaust on today but now can't do it until monday, also found a leak in the seam of the gas tank to deal with, but thats little stuff, just gotta stay focused.
Thanks for the update. I remember your posts from the aftermath. And then nothing. Kind of thought you might have given up. Glad to see I was wrong. Now that you are back to where you were we will need a steady stream of progress pictures.
Kind of. Looks more like her when I first built it 8 years ago, before the nailhead and the halibrands. Now she looks a lot different. Say,... how did you do the frame in the rear for the gas tank? I had to lower my rear horns dawn to fit under the body. And is that windshield a cut down from a 32 duvall? Looks good.

Hi Bobby, yours has been a favorite of mine, flattered anyone would compare the two, but like you said, they are a bit different, I really like yours with the milk truck wheels too. I'll be changing mine a bit more with the artillery wheels I got off ebay, and taller tires in the rear. but the 327/4speed will be there for a while. I always liked the Duane Spencer 32, and kinda loosely patterned mine off of it, hopefully it'll get some shiney black paint one day. what I did to fit the 32 tank on mine was to remove the stock back tailpan or whatever you call that piece under the rear valance and make a new one with only a 1/4 inch lip visable from the rear, and square tubing further in for strength, so I could pick the tank up higher. then I only had to drop the frame horns about 1 1/4 inches. I've got a few pics if you want to see them. I wish I could have scooted the tank in a bit more but the spring prevents that, still it doesnt look too bad. Also the windshield is a 32 Duval, It fit good as is, there is a small gap on the ends of the cowl but I plan to make a rubber pad to fit under it to seal the cowl better anyway. Are you using the commercial dash rail on yours? mike
Mike, I would like to see the pics of what you did to the rear pan. Also, are you saying that you didn't have to narrow the windshield to fit the 31 cowl?? I have never tried, but I always thought the 31 cowl was much narrower than the 32. And I've always loved the Doane Spencer car too.
I remember seeing those pictues after Katrina and how you found parts ****tered all over the place. It hurt to look at them! congrats on a beautiful and well deserved comeback!
Mike, I remember all of your posts after Katrina and you're an inspiration to us all. If you can overcome all the adversity you've had and build a roadster like that ,then no one should complain about the normal set backs that we all encounter. It looks great !!!! Glenn
thanks again guys, really appreciate the good comments, and Bobby, no narrowing on the Duval windshield at all, the cowls must actually be pretty close between 31 and 32 because the fit is quite good. Its possible that maybe the Duval is further back on the A cowl than the 32 cowl, hard to say without a side to side comparison, but it looks right. I think also the 32 cowl may have a bit more crown to it, because of the small gaps on the ends, which could be fixed by filing some of the br*** off the underside of the windshield, but its really not even an issue. I'll put up some better pics of the cowl and gas tank area this afternoon.
