I didnt know it was going to be another contest type show where there competing for a job. Competition like that causes lots of conflicts. Of course thats what they want to make it like OCC and AHR. In order to get the ratings they want they are going to play to the majority. I'll tune in myself a few times more to see which direction it goes expecially since its at SoCal but it looks like the drama element will spoil it for me. I'd like to see a show more on the lines of Two Guys Garage of course with old school cars and techniques where they actually build something with junk yard parts like most of us do.
I don't blame any of them for taking the money. The jury is certainly still out on this show. When Jesse does a show like Monster Garage he knows he is going to get made fun of though. Most here would take the money and cringe a little knowing they were going to be the butt of jokes. Monster Garage was a stupid show.
I didnt understand the point of "personally handpicking" these individuals who dont know shit about working on cars. Why do we allow "reality tv" to change the definition of REALITY. I hate drama so it was tough to watch.
Caught the show for about 5 minutes last night. That's all I could stand to watch, another stupid life story out of one of those NON-CAR GUYS and I'd of blown a gasket. btw I've known one chick in my 28 years on earth that could even slightly turn a wrench, those barbie dolls are prolly actress wannabes trying to get they're face on tv. In my opinion the show worked and the proof is in the 6000+ viewings and 190+ posts on this single thread. Has any other thread on this board ever done that in less then 24 hours? Hard Shine is the Paris Hilton of this website.
I guess you missed the 'Tulsa Buried Car' topic. Number if replies didn't make it any better either. It was a totaly lame IMHO.
For clarity, since you are new here, this thread is actually three threads that got merged into one AND this thread was actually started 10 days ago, not 24 hours. Just because it's a hot topic of conversation on the HAMB does not give the topic legitimacy. and yes, there have been lots of threads in the past that have a couple hundred replys in a 24 hour period.....just look at the bumper sticker thread for example that is still close to the first page.
It was predictable AND I'll watch next week. On a brighter note... if miss fingernail made enough money to get her grille fixed, the world will be a better place.
If not for the fact that someone that is known to many of those who post here was on the show I doubt 25% of those who watched would have. Many who have noted that they came in from the garage to catch some of it wouldn't have. I most likely wouldn't have bothered if not for that reason. Because of that reason though I may flip back and forth on occasion because of interest in the 57 Chevy they showed now and then. My only real hope for the show from here is that Pete Chapouris doesn't end up turning into a Boyd. That would be more dissapointing that finding out that this is just another one of those shows.
What I think is funny is we now have 10 pages of drama about how there was too much drama on the show. lol Two points. If someone followed us around with a camera in our shops, we would all come off as asses as well. It's TV, the drama is scripted. TV shows exist for ONE reason. To generate advertising dollars! OK three points. I'll watch it, cause I am a gearhead and there are cars on the screen. GV
I raced home from the night welding gig to see it. Decided the shower would go better, right after that girl cut her nails. Hopefully the show gets better. The intro is the bomb though. The blown roadster tearing down the sands. That was great. Carl Hagan
HOT ROD SHOW ARE LIKE PORNO VIDEOS: People watch them because we like the subject matter. We all think we could do a better job doing what is going on on our TV sets, but since we weren't invited to participate, we will have to be content to watch. We like to watch tools being used in new and different ways and we are inspired to "try that myself someday". Both use lubricants, involve drilling, battery operated gizmos, one "know-it-all", and are usually filmed in nice locations. Both end in a pretty predictable way. The ending usually depicts a scene with self-congratulations of some sort, everyone somewhat satisfied, a mess to clean up, some laundry to do, some hands that need washing and, of course, a cigarette break. Some of the "actors" in both are usually amatuer-like, although there is always one that is clearly better than the others. Both types of entertainment are just eye-candy, some sweeter than others, but we watch anyway until the time comes for us to get off our butts and do it for ourselves and try to do it better than the folks on our televisions. Get busy!
did any body catch the preveiw for the next episode? Jimmy telling Pete to shuush...shuuuush...I would punch him in the fucking mouth.
Thanks to all to who watched, be it good or bad in your opinon.....A little back ground for ya, I showed up a week later after shooting started. I was given a very short notice to come out, and the first week of shooting landed on our 16 yr. wedding anniversary and it was tax time. So I told them when I could drive out and make it, and they agreed, I was not going to let my wife down again like the last two years prior, because I was locked in the garage building hot rods and she waited both times for us to do something for our anniversary months later.... I saw the show last night for the first time also, most of it was from that first week of shooting, I was surprised I even was in it.........I had not known about the dreaded finger nails, I find it funny, but understood their point that they had to go, oh hell she just needed to use the equipment with them or with out them.....I only met her the one day and she never came back the next.....maybe my short ugly awkward appearace spooked her? he he, she did seem very nice.... I ended up leaving my job to try this, I left a job I really liked and was good at. It was a shop that had drama as well, my family has drama, our club has drama, drama is all over, so it is hard to escape.....I had no idea how tv worked, but will say the tv crew that was made up of only three people, were the best, they made being so far away from my home and family easier.....They were fun to be with.....and turned out to become good friends.... As far as Jimmy goes, I have put in alot of hours in and out of the shop with him.........And he is the hardest working guy I have ever worked with ! And a true hard core hot rodder to his deepest core. I got along with him very well, yes we picked on one another, but we mean't no harm to one another.....I never heard him talk negative about any of the other shops, and really is a great guy. I learned to weld better round jimmy and Richie and learned little tricks here and their, I always look forwards to learning a new way , thats one of the reasons I went, to work and learn...Yes their are alot of ways to skin a cat, but when you think you know everything, I believe you end up knowing nothing..its never good to have blinders on..I never felt like I was being talked down too, well I was only because I am short..he hee...I consider Jimmy to be a very very good friend. In the end I do not regret one minute, I have realized they will edit the way they want, and thats fine because its entertainment in the end. Before I went and did this, I never watched a whole lot of tv, I was in the garage building . And what did I do in California, I was in a shop assembling and building.........I ended up doing this because I was afraid to try it, I wanted to work with Jimmy, I wanted to work in a hot rod shop, I wanted to possibly learn something, I am getting older and time is running out, and because my wife loves me enough to put up with a huge work load while I was so far away and does not hold me down and believes in me.. All I can really say we did alot in a short period of time, it was a huge amount of work, but thats what I went for...........I went into this with no expectations and wanting nothing but to do it and not regret not trying it years later..I am glad I got a chance to meet everyone and work with them all, and wish them all nothing but great things. I met so many people and fellow Hambers, it was one of my favorite things, I never though I would be in California period..The So-Cal Speed Shop crew was the best...Jimmy and Pete have a great relationship and are true friends. I had a great time and alot of fun!!!!! and would do it all over again.......I did it, be it right or wrong..........but I did it.........Now its time to catch up on all the house work that has piled up since I have left...........and everyone has an opinion, and we all have the right to voice it, thats one of the reasons I like the Hamb........another place to learn, as long as you take them blinders off too look and listen............Littleman
Looks like I'll spend yet another year once again convincing guys that all girls aren't twirps and some can actually build cars (and use tools including things that have "wheels"). Put me down for one "What do i know? I don't have fingernails" shirt I think I will also make a shirt based on the "I do my own stunts" shirt. Mine will say "I do my own builds". And I will make sure they aren't anything reminscent of 40s/50s pin up style. Who gets all dolled up to work in a shop? Who knows though, maybe those girls aren't at all what they were like on camera. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt. But, like mentioned before, why those two? Why not two girls that really want to be there? How could that girl just walk out on such an opportunity? I'll watch it again. Littleman rocked. Not too different than I expected it to be.
The show is a disappointment. Another Orange County Choppers/ Boyd/ Foose formula show made for the general public viewing. The comment on the show about This is So Cal and not some backyard garage didnt sit to well with me either. Red Flag Another comment from Shine was, Im a control Freak and its my way or the highway. Red Flag Im about the age of (40) Littleman and could understand his anxiety to risk all what he has worked so hard for to enter into this weird situation. We already know Littleman can build A+ hotrods and he has worked 15 yrs at a machine shop. His wife probably works and his kids are in a routine, established in the public school system, etc. He probably has some sort of healthcare from his job, which is a must the days with a family. His shop is squared away next to his house, maybe he even does Hot Rod side jobs after work and weekends As he says, he all of his ducks in a row. At our age you dont want to start over when things have fallen together in a positive way. Yeah. I can see how he could be nervous and wanted to turn around and go home. What reasonable person wouldnt? I would say to myself, what if I get threw this Dog and Pony show and get the 3rd in pecking order spot in the shop. What then? Can I put up with working for Shine? After watching the show he doesnt appear to be a person I would want to work with or have over the the garage on the weekend. Whats the pay, benefits, etc.. at the So Cal shop? Will I be able to make a decent pay for living in Calif.? The homes are pretty high, the commutes can be a bitch, and there are alot of other negatives to living there. Will my kids be able to adjust to a Calif. school? It would be culture shock for a child going from Ohio to Calif. Healthcare? I can go to the VA to get medical, but what about my wife and kids? I can only guess what Littleman was thinking? But, these were my thoughts as I watched. I really wanted it to be more like Documentry Choppertown-Sinners meets the the Shifters club episode a few years back. More under the hood welding, Fab., motor work, showing all what it takes to build a hot rod. The Hard Shine show is just a load of same old crap. So I wont watch the show anymore. I wish I would have just stayed out in the garage and finished welding my motor mounts.
It is a shame that it seems that there is only 1 or 2 people on that show that really what to be there. this is a once in a life time chance to learn a lot of cool stuff for free and they don't give a shit! I never met Jimmy but he seems like a cool guy, I own my own pool construction co. and finding people who care about your co. and the work like Jimmy is very very very hard to find i hope the show dose well and i know that $30K paint jobs turn a lot of people off but it's all good for the owner of the car and i know all of us who sell parts from time to time get a lot more then what things are worth or we would all have 28,29,30, 31,32 you know what i mine.
Well said Littleman,,, Dave and I hung out allot while he was out here (When he wasn't working) and even tho the first episode wasn't the greatest ..Some of the stuff Dave has told me they have done sounds like it will be really cool..I think the show will inprove..The first show most of the time is not the gretest but in time it will get better.. Knomes (Sp?) will be broken and so will some ribs right Dave? hahahahahaha..I think the adventure has just begun,,,Dave will be the Ying to shines Yang..umm That sounds wierd... evel
Way to go Littleman!! It took alot of guts to do what you did....I bet this experience will prove you made the right choice..You are one talented builder thats forsure.....Every bit as good as the guys on that show....
I owe Evel and his awsome wife a big thank you as well, here are two people that opened their house to me for a month and handed me a key to their place......good people..............along with Don Moyer taking care of my wifes car when I was gone, and everyone that helped her out in general, from my in-laws to the people that I used to work with.........Without the help it would have been real difficult to make happen.......and a big thanks to Mr. Blondel for letting me stay in the apartment that was in his shop the rest of the time while I was out their...........Littleman...I miss Lucky the evel one's dog...
