Even though I've seen Shine act like an asshole and I'm not a fan of his, I liked the show. It's a show with hot rods. How bad can it be? Would you rather watch Oprah? Just look past all of the producers BS and there's cool stuff.

I was shocked by the 10 or 2 statement. I didn't think They would think like that. It's good they do. How many times have you spent a ton of time on something and then say...nobody's going to see this.

Littleman and SASS were both very lucky to be involved in the show. Hopefully they won't be made to look silly and if they are just look past it.

I did see a first on the show.....a "gangbanger" doing the happy dance. That was pretty funny. It was cool they gave him credit for nice welds.

SoCal never gave us a hard time about SoWhat. They gave SoCheap a cease and dissist. We're just a bunch of idiots having fun.

I don't have to like SoCal or kiss Shine's ass to like a hot rod related TV show.

I liked the show......we all liked it enough to watched it right? none of us shut it off right?....who cares about who acts or does something not everyone agrees on, everyone is different. It's something for us rodders to watch, a bunch of hotrod eyecandy! the whole SoCal crew has done well in my opinion. Cheers to all those involved.

as George lopez would say...." you likeditit you likeditit "...anyhow looked to me like the first show was more of a intro or Bio episode.....I would like to think the upcoming episodes will be more about the cars.....film at eleven

4. Well, I was entertained. It had some things I expected, and some things I did not......As for you folks picking on the cast, did you drop everything and go try out for the show? As for our club party, it was a hoot! Everyone seemed to enjoy the show and the company...If your in the neighborhood on thursday nights for the next 9 weeks or so, shoot me a pm, stop in and watch a hot rod show on tv in the Diner.

I'm proud of the littleman. Its an honor to be his friend.... it really is.

I think the sacrafices he made and the support his family has given him is the REAL story.... TV is just TV. I like Leave it to Beaver the best.

Littleman and his family are golden people for sure. We can all learn from them.

Congrats man......

I'll watch again.
But Hollywood needs to step up and away from the drama field and us gearheads would have shows we'd watch with a lot less bitching about it. Someone brought up junkyard wars many responses ago, I don't know if you U.S. guys and gals got the original British version aired, but the the U.S. version AKA hollywood version turned down the tech and turned up the drama. Same show essentially, but the editing and presentation where very different. The concept of the show is great, its the execution by hollywood types that screw it up for those of us that couldn't care less about finger nails, but would rather see the hands busy with the job.

Like these forums, tv needs to go with more tech, less o.t. =-)

10. "I do everything with my fingernails..." Yea,except keep a job!!!

If I wore rollerskates all the time, and Pete told me to lose the skates or leave the show...i'd think about it for a while, then probably get rid of the skates.HA HA! Her loss...

I agree... Why lose a job over something stupid? If I was getting $85 an hour - I'd even shave my freakin head if they asked me to.

Umm, Jimmy Shine said the shop rate was $85, that does NOT mean employee's working there make $85 an hour. If they gave every dollar of their hourly rate to the employee working that hour, there would be no So Cal Speed Shop.

In this case, who knows what the "contestants" were being paid, maybe it was volentary with expenses paid, or a lump sum on contract for taking part in the show. I dont know how it is in California, but I'd estimate the hourly pay of a shop assistant to be around $12-20/hour depending on what state and market your in.

But you must understand that our "type" is not Holywood's target audience. The drama is there to impress and entertain the actual tagrget audience, who is much larger than our "group". A show in TLC must appeal to a much broader audience than just the serious, hands on hot rodder, which, while there may be a lot on this site, we account for a very small portion of the population that watches the TLC Network

13. shouldn't that be "Lucky77'sGal"?
I agree. Some people have weird priorities. I wounder what her art looked like. Maybe she was one of those abstract metal artists. Like those ones we used to see on Monster House. Weld off-the-wall stuff together and call it art.

If she welded for her art she would not have been afraid to use the power tools and "stuff with wheels". If fact, after observing the way both females held the hand tools, seemed they both had very little experience at all in a shop/garage.

17. Enjoyed the show but it is just TV, dont get to serious and enjoy it for what it is. Last time I was at SO_CAL they were really friendly. Jimmy was more than willing to stop his work and answer are questions. If you dont like it dont watch ,theres lots of home improvement shows.

As far as the $30K paint job goes, I work at a shop that regularly does Pebble Beach restorations on a number of European classics.
What we tell customers who ask is.......the paint job costs $2K, the
PREPARATION for paint costs $30K. It's all hours times dollars, and
it takes a lot of hours to get a car like that.

I thought some of the footage of the old style roadster on the dry lake was cool

too bad the show itself had to follow the same stupid formula as
dancing with survivors american chopper what not to wear idiot target audience proven to pay off at the mall formula

what's that one show where it's the young guy does most of the talking and the girl does all the welding and fabbing and when she talks she is actually teaching you something?
4x4 something or other?
that type of show works for me
an entertaining lighthearted glimpse of how to build shit and have fun.

for littleman's sake I hope it evolves to a more adult level soon
I'll be surprised if it makes it more than a handfull of episodes.

must say I was relieved to see Pete act the level headed man upstairs
always got the impression he had a cool just slightly elite attitude
not in a bad way, just not the common grease monkey like some of us.

Jimmy?
he should take a lesson from Pete on how to handle fame.

I'll probably watch again though
if I'm up...
the show doesn't come on till 10:00 pm Thursday here
and the alarm goes off at 4:00 am Friday

and of all those same shows
american chopper, american hotrod, monster garage,
it is the only one I would make an effort to watch...
except maybe for the one episode of MG where Grabowski and the old boys get to goof off.
that was fun

Good job littleman! To quit your job and leave your family for that long, I'm envious! My hats off to you......

Ryan's quote comes to mind, once again; " I'd rather try and fail miserably than to not try and think what if...." or something like that...

My wife and I watched it on Tivo and we both enjoyed it........

Good for you!

I do realize that. But hey, its an oppertunity for TV to step up to the plate and help UNdumb America for a change, rather than feed the lowest common denominator constantly while trying to pawn it off as a technical show... yeah... I live in my own world... =-)

I'd also like to think that if you feed the population tech, somebody somewhere will get hooked and want more, hopefully spawning greater demand for the tech. I know... my own world...

I don't know that I am actually adding anything here but...I enjoyed the show, I dvr'ed it. watched it today as I layed on the couch.

I really enjoy the powerblock shows on spike tv, and stacey david's show gears; both for their lack of drama and keeping the bs to a minimum, even if horsepower did build a project called the "raunchy rat". i also watch anything else i can find automotive or fabricating or tech related.

I usually don't work in the garage on weekends, I take a couple hours, see what others' are doing try to learn something. this is the same time i spend on the hamb. i usually learn more here, but even the hamb has it's share of drama.

Kudos to Littleman, let people say what they will; it's hard to pick up and leave and I don't know how I'd feel doing it. Your work speaks for itself and you deserve the accolades, however the editors of the show decide to make you look in coming episodes.

I am a fan of how-to and tech shows; but i am pretty well sick of 98% of whats on tv. Mainly the reality stuff, but i will be watching this one.

I ranted i know, and in an annoyingly meandering way. But I'm tired and wanted to bitch i guess.
