Looking to get a Model A to rod (not Rat Rod) - Though I would pimp this one "as-is".

Found one and just wanted to post up a quick question:

Would you hot rod this car, or leave stock?

Hot Rod ASAP. Flathead, 39 box, juice brakes and sixteens with no spare or bumpers. $.02

I'd find a basket case to hot rod. for some strange reason I think it's wrong to undo all the work that someone did restoring an old car, when there are so many unrestored cars I could work on instead.

(so much for the minority opinion)

wow i cant believe im gonna say this but no, not that exact car looks too nice

  5. I hate seeing nice stockers made into rods. There are so many out there, that would be too expensive to return to stock, that can be rodded. IMO...

Rod the hell out of it! if it was mine i'd ditch the fenders bumpers and the spare, put '38 truck grill on it, 320c.i. buick straight 8, 15in radir wheels and wide whites, a nice slathering of Sassy Grass Green, white vinyl interior, baracudda buckets, and few other kick ass thingamajigs, but you do what ever the hell you heart desires with it. It's a damn nice car either way.

You know what? Although I think it's a shame to modify many old cars when they're so pristine, the Model A and similar are not among them. Why? For two reasons. Most are not worth that much stock, no matter how nice they are. Secondly, they're anything but rare compared to many cars made even decades later. I have a '30 Model A 2-door sedan that is more what you'd expect as a rod project starting point. But if it looked like yours, I'd be shickled titless and still go full steam ahead.

Absolutly not. I think cutting something this nice into a hotrod is wrong. It's hard to find some old steel thatt's hotrod material but it's even harder to find something that's nice enough to leave "as is". Let someone who is into keeping old cars restored buy it to let us all remember what they were like years ago and the gods of hotrodding will shine on you and help you build the car you want!
Find something that's on deaths bed to save from a rusty grave and it will appreciate it as much as you will. But respect a stately old gentleman for what he has earned during his long life! Sorry to preach but you just gotta stand for something sometimes!

    Just my opinion!

16" wheels, a little lower to fill the fenders, no bumpers, no spare and a hopped up 4-banger would be pretty cool even

Leave the body don't lower it new suspension and a flat head ford leave the fenders as well. But also you might get more looks just leaving it stock.

  15. It's possible to rod it without doing anything irreversible to it. But what the heck, it's not like it's a Stutz or something. Model A restos are never gonna get big money because there's so many of them, and I personally think buying a resto is a great basis for building a rod. For one thing, you're gonna save a bucketload of time and $$$ on bodywork, then if you're not gonna use the running gear, that's going to recoup a bit of your investment. Hell, Model A's are the most common vintage cars around, dont feel bad about rodding one. In fact, that's what I have in mind for my next project.

Hell yes. Even a low budget rod if well done will double the car's value over stock. Sorry but these just aren't rare cars. Where I live, you can't swing a dead cat w/o hitting a stock Model A.

exactly what I was thinking. Leave the fenders, nail the stance with a slight drop in the front and Big and Littles and maybe change the running gear, or hop up the 4 cyllinder.
Like a "do-no-harm" hot rodding treatment. Something that is tasteful and could be put back to original. heres a photochop.

i'd convert it to juice brakes, hop up the banger, and take out some leaves in front. instant hotrod.

Drive it for a few years...you'll have a lot of fun with that car as-is. Then maybe do some engine work to it, brakes too. Then drop the front a bit, then the rear a bit, nothing drastic...just reverse spring eyes, different rear spring...do it over time...the kind of stuff you can reverse easily if you want to put it back to stock.

Break out the wrenches. There are enough of these cars restored, sitting in museums & garages because they can't run with the pack these days. Go buy a repro frame, put a Nailhead, Rocket, or my favorite, an FE. Don't tear the hell out of it, just do something with a good rake some good wheels & tires, and a bunch more power & reliability than stock. Sell the stock stuff to a restorer or, if you feel bad about parting out a nice car, keep it to return it to stock if you ever feel the urge. You probaably never will.

Man, you're a hot rodder! Hot Rod it! There are enough resto A's to go around. I wouldn't chop it all up, but I would for sure upgrade the running gear and channel it a little.

I agree with squirl and some of the others it's to nice to strip down, meaning no fenders, chopped, channeled with a v-8. If that is what you want find another one. I do like the lowered full fender look.

I gotta go with hot rod. After all the shit and searching for tin I have been through on mine, that thing makes me drool. I'd have it apart and be choppin' and channelin' right quick!!:D

I love the comments about not doing something that can't be undone. It's like catch and release hot rodding!

Boyd did it to a beautifully restored T (and that really pissed me off). With that said, let your conscience be your guide.
I'd probably just lower it a little, and find another one to cut up, -- I must be getting old.
