Leon. If Andy will be California let us konw where and when. I sure would support a run to bring some sunshine into Andy's life.

  2. Yep, here, here to that. We could bring Andy his own car show to Stanford, lots of HAMBers & car folks in the bay area. I get back 8-22-07 I'll check here to see when Andy will be out here.

    Hey folks,

I met with Chris again today to check on my buddy and have a chat on how we can get Andy to beat this bastard tumor. I offered the family the money and an option.............. the option being that i would come to you and see if we could make Andys dream happen.

Adny is a flat black kid who wants a project for his flat head. I discussed this with Chris and was told.............................. money is nice, but it is only money and some how we will get it, BUT A PROJECT FOR ANDY MAY BE WHAT IT TAKES TO HELP ANDY PULL THROUGH THE TOUGH AND RISKY OPERATION, you know, something to fight for.

Chris went home and asked Andy what he wanted, the money or a piece of junk to call his own............ Chris said Andy lost his shit....... he was going nuts thinking that he could be one of us, the owner of a Hot Rod. So i promised that i would bring this to you guys. I will be e-mailing the few that have been close to this dream and have some ideas to run by you all. It has been mentioned that some would offer parts at joplin, and others have offered to try and relay as far as we can. Well.............this is all wonderful. BUT I have to look for a Model A for Andy. And with the cash we have try and develop a plan to get this boy his ride.

I have spoke with Fitzee and Glen at island rod and kuston and a few others who have offered time and skill to piece this together so when Andy gets home we will get to see his masterpiece. I will hit the local auto suppliers and beg borrow and steal (joking) as much as i can.

Please pm me if you have ideas to get this to happen.

    Regards
    Leon

And it still would be kool for a magazine to cover the wonderful world of HAMB and this special story:) ......did i say Zombie......shhhhhhhh

    Leon,
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist in Andy's care. I am the Chief of Medicine at our Cancer Center here in San Diego, California; and I am the Head/Neck Oncologist who works with the surgeons at the Skull Base Surgery Center (SENTA). We have one of the few Cyber Knife units in the country. If Andy is to receive his therapy here in San Diego -- It would be my pleasure to facilitate VIP treatment!

    Leon,

You might check out www.modelthaven.com or give them a call and see what he has for Model A bodies, if you call them explain Andy's situation and maybe he would do something for a price break. It's in Iola, Kansas about 30 miles from me, I could even go have a look for you. If you find something I'm sure me or one of the Kansas guys on here could pick it up and relay it to the HAMB drags, and someone else could take it from there until we couldn't go any further and had to ship.

Is Andy wanting a coupe, tudor, or a RPU? Does it have to be old steel, or could it be new steel or 'glass?

I posted this, and then went to go look for what I was thinking about. I came across these guys a few weeks back when I was looking for something for my uncles.

Here is the online catalog of "Last Refuge Hotrods" and their '28-'29 RPU package. I know its quite a bit for a kit, but they've got different options and such. I'd almost bet they'd be willing to work with us and possibly even donate some (crosses fingers) if they get bigtime exposure for their company.

Below is their Ebay auction for their kit.

Andy was thinking bout a coupe, but a 2 door sedam may work well for him as well. Im not sure what last refuge would do but i will go and see Chris on monday and see if a rpu is good with Andy.

There was a member here selling a 30 2 door in canada........just can seem to find it. As well, i have found a place in canada with a few old cars........ I know i have recieved a few pms from people willing to toss in a few old pieces, so we could even piece a project together ....

I dealt with similar situations and sometimes you need to refocus things a bit. If Andy is in such bad shape maybe you should concentrate on medical care at this time. IMO, it's going to be too much to battle the disease, finances and all the other things that go with a terminal disease. Trying to work a hot rod build into all of this is just too much. My Dad had a similar cancer that took his life after 12 months of butchery surgery, tacheotomies, feeding tubes, oxygen, bed confinement, Chemo, Xray, Dialysis from kidney failure and so on. Everything but his medical treatments were put on hold for that 12 month period. Please don't say "Aman, you unsensitive son of a bitch", I'm just telling you this because I've lived it. I say let's do everything possible to get him feeling and doing better and then focus on fulfilling his hot rod dreams so he'll be able to enjoy this more. Do you have any pictures of Andy? Every fund raiser I've been involved in had pictures of the child/person so you could relate to them. It helps everyone focus there thoughts and prayers to that individual. Excuse me it you've already posted one, please steer me to the thread so I can print one off. My Mother died last week and I need to raise money to pay hospital and funeral expenses by selling a couple projects. I'd be willing to sell/donate some items to Andy or a build if we go that direction. It's very hard dealing with this stuff however, it's part of life. My prayers and thoughts remain with Andy.

I am stunned by this news about Andy's health. Although it is not unexpected in circumstances such as this, it's still a shock when things take a turn for the worse. My wife and I have been praying for Andy since first learning about this dreaded tumor. The prayers will continue for the Lord to shed his grace on Andy and his family and grant a miracle for his return to good health.
I'm good also for whatever is decided as best for the money we've raised so far. It should be used for the most urgent need.
When Andy is better there will be more Mokan drag races and getting him there will be a piece of cake for the caring folks here on the HAMB.
Hang in there little buddy, it's one more hurdle before you get to the finish line. You sure have a lot of folks pulling for you.

    I can understand your feelings.

But the Canadian goverment is going to cover Andy (or as it stands right now). His father feels that something to fight for is the best thing for Andy right now. I have asked on numerous occassions if we could donate it to health care, only to get the same answer.

Personally, if a project gives Andy the fight to carry on............im all over it. I know we cant change the world, and i wouldnt bank on it. But the world of a 12 yr old boy who loves hot rods is important enough to make a difference.

I am sorry about the news of your mother, im sure it is tough.

It may ease you to know that will be doing something every year for some one who need it, Andy was the first.

And Andy and his flat head picture is here on another HAMB thread, but if you'd like i could repost it.

    Regards
    Leon
