Rock 'N Rods on Route 66 in Bloomington, IL was a real good show. It actually "looked" smaller than it was. The cars were spread out in and around many of the buildings on the grounds. If the show were at a park or in an open field, it would have looked much larger. But the grounds offered restrooms, covered seating and tables, cool buildings, shade, etc. What more could you ask for? Here are 186 pictures for you to check out. -Jeff

The swap was fairly small but most of it was old car stuff. There were a couple of spots that had new stuff like tools and garage supplies. In the buildings that housed the featured cars, there was a little bit of new stuff and some displays from local vendors. Our friends from Rebel Wire were in the building that housed J. Cash's Rockabilly Cadillac.

One of the true highlights of this event was the appearence of the one and only legendary customizer/painter Gene Winfield!

-Thanks for the pics! We made it as far as the parking lot (once we finally found the show...). My wife and I were in the area for our anniversary, and I couldn't convince her that I hadn't planned all along to end-up at a car show... To keep peace, I had to act like I had just read about it in the local paper... :( Oh, well...maybe next year.

For the sake of easy times the other 51 weeks, I have found that the anniversary week is for "Her" not "Us". Good try though! Ha Ha! -Jeff

HAHAHA. We were in the parking lot last night hangin out and breeder and his buddy pull up. I ask what hotel they are staying at and Breeders buddy says "uhhhhhhhhh, the Country......Kitchen????" haha. It was so funny. While he was saying this I could clearly see the sign for the "Country Inn and Suites"

They were supposed to follow us to the hotel but we got separated. so as we are in the parking lot saying I wonder WTF happened to Breeder and RP I see their trailblazer at the stoplight so we are yelling and waving and **** but to no avail (I should have just popped a tab on a beer, he would have heard that) anyways they did finally find the hotel The people partying in the parking lot with us will now and forever be afraid of people from Missouri

I had a great time over the weekend! I think there were about 300 cars there and there was only a few of the "Other" type of cars which I was really happy to see. For the most part, I think everyone was happy with the show this year. I saw quite a few HAMB and Pile-up shirts in the crowd so I guess the word is getting out about the show. I met a lot of new folks, a lot of them from right here in Central Illinois that I never knew......Here are some of my pics......

My Camera battery died early on so I missed a lot of stuff because I got stuck inside jawing with everyone who came by to check out the atomic punk. I was surprised to see quite a few survivor customs and Hot rods show up from central Illinois. This 37 belongs to a 26 year old dude that found it near Farmer City. He got it running again and it is still sporting the old custom upholstery.

There were quite a few celebrity appearances as well, besides Moriarity, Fritz, Dave Shuten.....Bob Bleed and Johnny Cola made an appearance and were even seen tooling around on their "Gold Chainer" golf cart. ha ha ha

There were deals to be made as well. Gene Winfield got to talking to someone and went out to the Illinois countryside and found this old midget racer and bought it. The person that had it also has another one but I ain't tellin'. Check out the load of gooedies that came with it. 3 flatty motors and some Magnesium wheels and a bunch of other stuff.....

Larry, the guy that puts on the show also would like some input on what you all think of the show.....you know venue, bands, and whatnot. I know he can't make everyone happy, but he would like to keep making it better....if you want to chime in, I will send him this thread.....

The people at the interstate center are giving him the runaround so he may be looking for a new location. That doesn't surprise me at all since they have successfully run off the Bloomington Gold Corvette show, the swap meet, and the Midwest Ag Expo will probably be moving as well.......

I think a one day show would probably be better, but have it last from 10 in the morning until 11 at night with the bands playing all day and a feature band at night. That way you don't have to go around town looking for the party at night, you are already there....Beer tents are a big part of Central Illinois summer life.....make the draft beer fairly cheap and I think you could be onto something....

Rock and Rods was great. We had a great time. There were a LOT of great cars and very nice people. The weather couldnt have been more perfect. And the set up was a little stretched out but it was still very nice, the fair grounds there are very nice. And they had some GREAT bands , vendors, and stripers. We will go back next year. Sam and Mike THANKS sooooo much for the ride. Loved every second of it. You guys are GREAT. Wish we could hang out before Oct. Breeder and RP are always the life of the party. You will never be bored when they are around :) I missed the country kitchen thing ... LOL , the walk to the Steak N Shake was priceless , It realy and truly was like the "beverly hillbillys came to town " LOL , for those of you who went ( to the steak N shake ) did you notice how when we got there the place was packed, ten minnutes later , no one but us :) . bigsam63, and rusco, ( and their ladies ) are some of the sweetest people ever. Thank you so much for your hospitality. Cant wate untill the next "shindigg" .... and we are having a get together at our house this friday night ( fishfry and stuff) ... if you dont have any plans for the weekend, bigsam63 and rusco, load up the girls and come up, we would love to have ya. ( as long as you are in for a total "red neck weekend " including demo derby and mud run ... it does promise to be a boat load of fun.

i heard about the venue issues as i left. i like the idea of a single day event, too. maybe he needs to look at something like a minor league stadium or horse track. that way, you have permanent bathroom facilities, lighting, liquor licenses and good sized parking lots.
