OK I've been looking in to this for a bit and in my shop i seem to have most of the peices i need to build one of these things. I have about 4 ford log headed 6 bangers a 144 a 170 a 200 with 4 mains and a 200 with 7 mains. My question is besides displacement there is very little between these motors exept for the 7 main 200 can i run a later 170 (first year in production 1961) that was built in 69 but from all i know is the same as the 61 motor or do i need to find a pre 62 block to build off of?? i would love to run the older 200 but i'm not going to push my luck:D......too much:rolleyes:.. also what can i do to the the motor internaly? can i stroke it mill the head, pistons? lighten it? ect??? I'm realy sorry if this has been covered i cant seem to find it. thanks guys!

  2. the 60-64 run on 6 bangers are different than the 65-74 run.

    Nothing fits.

Better stick with the pre 62 engine so you wont piss anyone off.
You can do anything you want to the inside of the engine.
    Good luck.

I've heard that the Ford truck six in the mid-fifties was hard to beat. 262 maybe?

Hi Randy. If you could fine a 262, a friend of mine wants one, I think that they are a large bore version of the old 223 ford six, and maybe these were made from 60 to 64. They were in old hay haulers and tractors, maybe the ford 5000 tractor.

I didn't know they were put in tractors too. There's an old Ford 5000 out at the family farm. It's a Diesel though.

If I ever go "Outlaw", it'll be with a Ford 300 big-block six.

If the rules had allowed the 300 Ford I would have one built already instead of the expensive 302 GMC I'm building. 8 months and still waiting for a set of aluminum rods from Howards. Damn!

its a falcon 170 modifiying the head to be more like a oz head with the removeable intake mild cam and reground crank should come in at about 180-185 zoomies 2 holly 94's dual coil. 14sec is awsome for a mostly stock 170:eek: i was thinking around 15-16 would be around stock. i'm hopeing for low 12's or high 11's....whats the highest rpm you can run with a 4 main 170??

  14. The APBA {American Power Boat ***.} use to have a Falcon cl*** now replaced by 2.5L They had weird rules everything had to look stock, They would remove the plugs from the ends of the manifold and bore it out as much port the runners reduce the combustion chamber by milling until they broke through the casting then weld plates then mill it again. It took a while for the over head cam pinto to take over.A man named ? Wilson Had the record and was compe***ive for a long time
