Not all of his glass cars were made from scratch and he would be laughing his ass off at such a stupid debate. It doesn't matter how you got the pieces and parts for what you build. It doesn't matter what it's made of. What matters is that you got off your lazy, dreaming, magazine reading ASS and built it. Shit, it could be made of wood, but it's YOURS and YOURS alone and that is what it's all about.
The quality of glass repops is so good now, that a lot of people talking trash about them have admired them and didn't even know it. That is unless you're walking around car meets and shows and trying to stick a magnet to every car you see.
ok...........have made up my mind............I am gonna buy a glass coupe..........now all i gotta do is find the one i want...........any sellers in California??
I first judge a car from 50 foot. If it looks bitchin, I dont care what its made of ! Not everyone can have a steel one. Thats my nuthin story for the night.
I have a glass T body from the early to mid 60's..its going to need a LOT more work than a new glass body but I like it cause its old.(depending on your age) So does that make my T less traditional or "new" or souless? I think it all depends on the final outcome. You cant call it something before its even built.
The soul of a car is what exists between the seat and the steering wheel. Think of all the amazing cars you know that are owned by complete jackasses and how they are able to ruin the car.
thanks skip! i have been working hard on it. it almost doesnt even look like it is 'glass! i just got that intake torqued down now i have to rebuild all those carbs. and bring it by AAA for a title. one of these days i'll make it to fresno (legally) and swing by your place. i gotta see that dragmaster!!! Jim, it's a speedway body. the 25 deluxe T with the door so my wife doesnt have to jump over the side....i do not, under any circumstances use that door!!! it's been channeled 3 inches in the front and 2 in the rear. it is a really well made body. nice and strong. heres a link http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1423,343_1925-T-Deluxe-Roadster.html
Its all in the eyes of the beholder. If the owner likes it thats all that matters. Everyone has their own opinions and thats just what they are is opinions. Build what you want.
You can ALWAYS tell if the car is glass.... STEEL is real and pure in every sense that hot rodding is still real and pure. Buying a glass car is like buying all your parts from a catalogue, buying your engine from a crate..... who do you want to be in the end??? You not fooling anyone with a glass car.
Seen the price on a Wescott body these days. Cheap isn't in the vocab any more. Less expensive might be the norm.
Wescott has gone off the map. They make some neat high quality stuff, but they are in a welfare state that consumes half his profits.
that has to be the dumbest fucking statment ever. Dee Wescott builds some of the best products on the road, his prices reflect the quailty and nothing else. I don't see how someone in Oklahomo can knock Oregon
After 20 years of steel cars, I just ordered my first glass roller. I always wanted a chopped 3-window '33 and N&N Fiberglass makes a really nice kit: Build what you can afford and what you like and don't worry about what others think. -Lee www.atomicpinup.com
Wow,this thread went on and on.....and this post will just add to it,lol! As Skimmer said,we dont get many steel bodies over here,(unless you can afford to buy, then ship one in and most of us can`t!)The point here is,we`re all Hotrodders,so we should appreciate a well built Rod no matter what its made from,Glass or steel.Life`s too short and full of krap to worry about something so trivial.Over here new government legislation is making a Hotrodders way of life(it aint a hobby!),tougher and I know thats the case in some States too,so we all gotta stick together.Damn,I`m getting all serious now, lol.Either way,Glass or Steel,we gotta keep them Hotrods coming.I`ll go stand in the corner now.
All this talk about fiberglass thought I'd give it a try. Brushed the gel on two layers of fiberglass mat. Made of couple passes through my english wheel and wow!, what a mess. Think I'll stick with steel for now.
If you guys want soul in you car thin go out and buy a fucking James Brown cd........................
As usual, this is a rediculous debate. I am just finishing up my 27 T roadster. It's an old polyform glass body on an original Ford T frame. The rest is built from old Ford parts and stuff that I made from scratch or modified to work. Oh yeah, it's got the 'belley-button' motor because the Aluminum Buick I had that I was going to put into it would have cost me much more to rebuild than the 30K mile sbc and auto tranny I got from a club mate. I scrounged for parts that ultimately came from both ends of the nation to build this car. I built it with safety in mind with the idea that one could jump in and drive it coast to coast and afford it. I have not concern for anyone who thinks it's not a hotrod. That's their opinion and everybody has one. I know that my T has it's own attitude and it's on the malevolent side. Maybe that has more to do with me than the car. To me, it represents many, many hours of hard work, cussing, sweat and blood. Mine. It runs like a raped ape. It was built to represent and old race car (think late '50's to early '60's) that was updated as the years went by. I'm happy with it. Is it not a hotrod? Don't bother to answer. I 'm too busy enjoying the fruits of my labor to care what the answer is. r
Hey, if I didnt have an all steel car already and I couldn't find one, I'd go with glass. This one is glass
