Are car cruise DJ's too loud...or am I just getting too old?

I attend quite a few car cruise events and one of the things I like about cruises and shows is the ability to talk to the owners of the cars and other people who are interested in the same types of cars as me.

At many of the cruises...the DJ's play appropriate music (50's-60's tunes) but they crank the volume so loud that it becomes very difficult to carry on a reasonable conversation (especially if you are trying to speak to an old body & fender man who is almost deaf).

Anybody else feel the same way? Or am I just a "square"?

No, you're not a square....you're just more interested in trading stories and information with other rodders, as am I. I've got nothing against loud music, but if that's what I want, I'll go to a concert or a bar.

I wish the variety of music would change. That doesn't mean they can't be 50's-60's songs but how many times do we need to hear "Tell Laura I Love Her"?

For every person that thinks the music is too loud, there's some one complaining that they can't hear it. Maybe they should just trade parking spots.

Our club usually handles our own music and the problem is getting the sound spread evenly over the whole parking lot. Get it loud enough for the people at the far end to hear and you're blasting someone else, who is closer, out of their shoes. For what it's worth, we play a wide variety of stuff. From Social Distortion to Johnny Burnette. We even hunt up stuff that no one has ever heard of before.

Most people pay no attention to the music , but try going without it and you'll never hear the end of it.

  6. ...you aint alone, all the DJ's I know must be deaf (from listening to their own loud music) so they don't realize how loud they got the sound cranked up. We've all been bitchin bout this very thing around here lately. We could do without em.

Most DJs I know are attention starved rockstar wannabes. They don't get the idea of background ambiance, they'd rather be noticed to make the next sale (booking).

Put more speakers out and turn it down.

I don't think its that your old, because I feel the same way, and I'm not that old. I rarely go anymore because its the same cars at every show with the same people and the same music. I'm kinda over it. But ya, my idea of fun is not Run Around Sue being blasted through my ears.

Thats why I always park as far away from the stage as I can. Sometimes, I take a nap in my car since I'm usually the first one to arrive.

I hate music at car shows. Around here all they play is reggaetone cranked way up. I went to one the other weekend and left after a few minutes of having my spleen oscillated into pudding

"Tell Laura I love her" You'r lucky, I'd love to hear that in the mix. It seems where I go you have to listen to "Mustang Sally" and "409" at least once an hour. Yes the music is TOO LOUD!

I am not a fan of the carshow dj myself. I don't give a crap about Frankie Avalon though. Now if they put on some Social D, Wayne "TheTrain" or Hank III? Perhaps.

Dang, you guys want me to type louder?? Can you hear me??
Just kidding, I must say that we seem to be luckier here in Oz, cant say thats a problem unless there are live bands, then they seem to be on the loud side. At least those ones are big events and you can avoid the noise black zone.
Man, I must be old at 34.........

  21. Ya all seem to be on the right track..maybe they need to get away from the damn cd player from time to time and try to talk to somebody and see what a pain in the ass it can be!!!!!!dont get me wrong I will listen to my ZZ TOP at 10 if I can ........and another thing about playin' the same 10 damn songs................

AMEN !!! They have been and still are too damn loud !!!!

  23. Golleee . . . I thought I was the only one who parked the car as far from the DJ as I can.

Last show, a hundred yards plus away, couldn't hardly talk to each other.
Not going back to that one.

Problem seems to be as 1950ChevySuburban says, the DJ's think they're the stars of the show.
I mean . . . why bother to learn to play the guitar when a few hundred bucks in electronic gizmo's will do it.

    Nuff said there.

50's music is ok, grew up on it, but the next couple of decades had some really good stuff.
They ought to play some of that....

The Early Times Car Club took a bunch of rods to Eugene, Oregon in 1967 for an indoor show that ran for a couple of days. The only music at the show came from a 4-track tape deck cranking out a Sonny and Cher tape in a Corvette that was parked right next to our cars. After one whole day of listening to the same dozen or so songs, over and over again at full blast, George "the Bushmaster" Schrieber, who was at the show with the ex-Ed Roth "Yellow Fang" top fuel dragster, ....well, lets just say, he "dismantled" it.
After the applause from all who were there, we went on to have a great time actually being able to talk to eachother again.
Loud music is bad. Loud Sonny and Cher?....even at 17 years old it gave me the creeps.

Funny that you mention this.... I noticed at the Asphalt Invitational that they had a band in the park area with the vendors and the food, while the cars were out in the parking lot. While I was looking at cars, you could barely hear the music, if at all. When I went to eat, I could sit at a bench and eat and listen to the band.

I don't like loud music at all. I think the Round up was about right though. The stage was away from the cars so it didn't blow you away.

They are too damn loud. The last thing that I want to hear when walking around checking out the rides is Johnny Fucking B-Good at a million decibels. I can handle a loud band, but the DJs are too much.

And there are always a couple of those creepy lost in the late 70's roller skate dancers "performing"... WTF??

  28. That's why I stopped going to the Friday night cruise in Garden Grove. They had this guy who would sing EVERYTHING!!!FUCK he sucked!

  29. I'm a DJ and a Karaoke Dj :D but I am the type of guy that is considerate of others.
It's hard to make everyone happy so I do my best to meet in the middle and play my music not too loud, but then not too low. My dad is a DJ too, and well, sometimes I think his shit's too loud
