It's official, a new hotrod movie is on the horizon. Many of you already know about it and have followed the film's main thread:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192029

I still need cars, extras, locations to film at, 1950's props etc... For more details, please refer back to above thread.

To access the movie's website please go to:

    http://www.deuceofspadesmovie.com

Many thanks and much gratitude to all the HAMBers that have already offered their help. Your support means a lot to us. This is a NO budget DIY endeavour of epic proportions and promises to eat up all my free time, life and finances for the next two years  but I don't remember ever being as excited about a project as I am about this film. I truly believe in it and I am going to give it my best shot.

I will be posting production stills, photos of the "Deuce of Spades" roadster and misc film updates on this thread.

If you can / are willing to contribute please PM me.

Before I post the photos, a few words about the movie itself: It is a full feature film, expected to be a little two hours long. It revolves around a 1932 ford roadster, called the "Deuce Of Spades" and two of its owners: A 2007 contemporary hotrod girl who currently owns the car and a 1955 hotrod legend (Johnny Callaway) who built it and raced it back in the days. This is a drama and some of the scenes are pretty heart wrenching, but overall the message is one of hope and there is a great ending. There are also a number of funny scenes, and some plain fun to watch light hearted hotrod footage, too. Well, enough said, you'll have to see the movie for yourself. We intend to pitch it to the Sundance festival and other Film festivals if all goes well and the DVD will also be available for purchase, so don't worry, you all get to see it. And yes, your wife / girlfriend will love the movie too, because there is a great love story in it. So you can have your cake, and eat it too :D.

But you know what they say: A picture is worth a thousand words, so let's just look at photos. I'll try to process, upload and share one or two every day or so until I run out. As I film more scenes, I might share more production stills, so check back here often.

Once again, thank you for your support and if you can, let others know about this worthy project.

HA HA! You mean, "cash out!" right? It is not likely I will ever recoupe all the money I spent so far, let alone all the money I will still have to spend to complete this movie.

This is a labor of love. :D

    Yea,
anyone who has ever sold a hot rod or a hot rod part for more than they bought it for
anyone who has sold a t-shirt with a rod on it
anyone who has sold a picture of a hot rod
    Converse shoes
    Pinstripers
    Rockabilly Bands
Hot Rod, Rod and Custom, Street Rod,Rolls and Pleats, Rodders Journal, Rod and Kulture, and the list goes on...

HiboyGirl is, from what I've seen, a genuine hot rodder with a love of traditional rods. She is pouring herself into a labor of love, so lay off.
If your here to defend "the scene" your in the wrong place.

Ahhhhhhhh one can only DREAM about a big screen, pop corn and a captive audience (complete with the couple of lovers in the back who are not watching the movie because they are too busy smootching :D )...

    Wouldn't that be GREAT??

But, no, I'm afraid not. This is a home made, DIY, no budget artistic endeavour filmed on video format and the only slogan I could come up with is:

"Deuce Of Spades, coming SOON to NO theater near you" :D :D

    HAHA!

But thank God to modern technology, big screen TVs and all the couch potatoes out there, YES the DVD will be available so you can see the film, pop your own AFFORDABLE pop corn ;) and cuddle with your old lady on your own couch while watching it... The love story in it is so enticing, she'll probably even get in the moood... hehe... :D

Any chance we could pre-order a DVD - get a special limited edition? Might help to defray some of the cost of your production. I'd be interested as long as it wasn't too much so if your dream wasn't completed I wouldn't be out too much money.

    Today's photos:

1- It's 115 degrees on Lake El Mirage and everyone on the set is BAKING. But hotrodders are tough cookies so no one leaves the set until we are done. I am about to pass out myself, but my task of director is keeping my mind off of it. Some people leave the actual SCTA race to come check out what we are up to... It was quite a sight.

  14. I have followed your exploits from buying your roadster on the other board thru your current movie concept,,,,,

This gal truly believes in what she is doing and I support her 100%,,and I'm sure when the DVD is avalible they will be in all my friends Christmas stockings.:D

Any possibility of pre ordering the DVD,,,It could help generate some needed funds? HRP

2- Jim Miller, currator for the national Hotrod Foundation is helping place the cars and paint numbers on them. he has been involved in this project since day one and has been a GREAT support, providing advice, technical information, props etc for our flashback scenes. He worked his fannies off that day. Hats off Jimmy! Oh, the gal next to him, is moi. Not in my most glamorous state I'm afraid, but in my most focussed / efficient / creative (and sweaty) state. ;)

3- Two more shots of some of the cars in that scene. These are production stills by the way, not actual footage stills. Most of the cars on the set that day just happened to be at El Mirage because of the SCTA race going on. The announcer on the loud speaker asked for 1955 or ealier cars to participate in our shoot and this is what we "collected". Of course there also was some of my friends from the Reelers LA car club who came with their lake roadsters and coupes that day. Many thanks to all who contributed to this scene.

OK, last two shots for the day (I will not be posting photos on week-ends, so more will added on Monday)

You have seen me in my sweaty, dusty, lack of sleepy, fugly state in picture above, so here are a couple shots quite a bit more "glamourous" showing the Deuce Of Spades and me at sunset on the windy lake.

Why don't you get one of those blow up screens and preview your film at a car show at sunset? Or you could get a copy of an original hot rod movie to bring people in and run a trailer/coming attractions of your movie. I think Von Franco did something similar at the Cow Palace show in associations with the Mad Fabricators.

    2cents :)

Well Hell!!! I was wrong about this film. I should have looked before I typed. When I saw "new hotrod movie" I thought oh brother not another movie about the past with bad acting, lame props, no historic research, stupid music, things in the movie not from the era. It looks like you youre doing it right. I will definitely see this film. Still need props?
what about showing it in independent theatres?

And Barz51 I dont defend any "scene" ...only point, laugh and comment on the changes within them. I used the term "scene" for lack of a better term.

I like this. Don't listen to any negatives. You have passion about this. That makes you lucky. Some people NEVER have passion about anything their whole life..

This film should be premiered at a drive-in. Not many left as far as I know. I can picture the place filled with hot-rods. Old cars get first pick of parking, cars featured in the film up front. Car show in the afternoon, movies at dusk. Then, take it on the road to all the surviving drive-ins!
I'll be there, drive-in or not! Come to think of it... A friend of mine rents a big projection screen and has out door theme parties. And my front yard is a sloping 2 acres. I know where and how I'll be watching this film! Mush on, HiboyGirl!!! Mush on.

Faith - Looks like it's coming together, just like it's meant to be. Nothing more fun than the creative process (IMHO) - savor this!

  29. Small suggestion. You need more stock cars. Not like NASCAR, but unmodified cars. Hot rods and customs were a very small segment of cars at the lakes and burger joints. Contact different Marque clubs like the Oldsmobile Club of SO Cal and similar. Include lots of 4 doors and trucks. Most car guys were pretty nerdy too. Think: Terry the Toad from American Graffiti. We didn't have lots of money in the fifties, so nobody chained their wallet to their pants. I bet I don't have to tell you that skulls, spider webs and skeletons were only seen on Halloween. To see a place that has not changed since the forties, go have lunch at Phillippe the Original on North Main St. In downtown LA.

I'm usually one of the smart asses on here, but these were sincere suggestions.
