Spokane. Has the highest rod-to-person percentage in the whole state. Has the oldest car club as well. This is a car town. I guarantee it will be a good turn out.
Actually lots of girls here that drive old cars. Everytime we have a car event, we get people from Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Canada, ect.
OK - Us Oregonians will kick in 4 cases of beer and 2 bottles of o'Douls (I gotta drink somethin'!) a plate of nacho's, an order of onion rings, and if we have to, the lap dance - could be pretty ugly tho. Maybe we can get you to the Acropolis where they actually have girls! We'll even get Mitch Kim to pinstripe your wagon. Think about Woodburn drag Strip (originally built by the Columbia Timing Association) and PIR. Tim
Cool deal. I'll check into both those locations as well. Waiting to hear back on a few VERY good prospects as far as open dates.... Could be pretty damn cool if it all comes together according to my evil plans.
If Billetproof NW is going to focus on being a car SHOW, then I think it shouldn't be held at a track. Tracks are more $$$ to rent for the promoter (and more $$$ to enter for attendees).... Find a cool little town close to I-5 with a nice park, anywhere between Medford and B.C.......
I vote for PIR as well, and not just because I'm an active member, and volunteer for FOPIR. (By the way, NW hambers, sign up, it's free , I have tons of stickers if you need one http://friendsofpir.com/) It's a great track, and has a huge field that will hold over a 1000 cars. I was there a few weeks ago, at the historic races, manning a booth and people came from all over the country and as far as New Zealand. Location is great, right off of I-5. 5 minutes from Washington. Several nearby hotels. Lots of parking, even for your trailors . Plus, they need events that will bring positive support from the community. I don't want to see the rumors of it getting turned in to an industrial area come true.
It is indeed going to be a show.... but if held at a location that has any sort of track that opens up more options... Burn Out Contests, Fastest ET prize, Dirt Drags, Dirt Rooster Tail Contest, Mud Bog Runs.... Parks are great, they usually have lots of trees and hence shade, something usually VERY lacking at any track (cept one that I found... shhhhh... its a secret). But doing a long smokey burn out in a park is usually verboten. Fairgrounds are good. Shade + Space + Infrastructure + Sometimes a Track too. just wait... there are some things a brewing.
Either Woodburn Dragstrip or Portland would be Sweeeeeeet! Seatlle has shows, we have nothing in the Eugene - Portland or Bend - Redmond Area. ( Not that I would suggest Bend or Redmond because I think we all know you will get a better turn out from Seattle if it is off I-5 )
'' The commie Californicators took over the place, Ive gone there for 40 years, Ill never go back. We have Hotrod-A-rama and Unfinshed Nationals, I think we have the anti-gold chainers covered
doens't matter to me where in the NW you have it.. ill make the run to it. Its much needed up here....early in the summer would be great since theres not much goin on then, but like everyone knows, the weather is too sketchy... PIR would be a good venue if i had to pick one.
As far as a great place to have it, I vote for Georgetown. You can get a large variety of bands to go there. There is a great venue for bands to play at "Jules May" And the area is a perfect setting for a show. I know a few businesses there that would love to support the event. Easy hotel access for out of towners too. lots for folkes to do in the area.
I'm a transplant from Motown to southern Oregon & have been at 3 of the Billetproofs in Detroit. Timed one of my driving trips back to MI. this year to visit Billetproof. Detroit Billetproof started really slow (small turnout) with alot of rodders turned away with billet cars and/or cars not built to what was expected the day of the show. Now it's getting relevant but I wouldn't consider it a large show compared to many others in SE Mich. Best of all it does feature early hot rodding & music from that era that others don't. One of the best attended/looked at features in Michigan seems to be the Pinstripers area. The burnout's are ok but after a few: seen one......... After looking all over Oregon & Washington to move to after retirement & it's central location I'm of the opinion that either Portland or someplace near to Hood River on the Columbia River Gorge might be great. I moved to Southern Oregon to have the best weather and be on the coast. I feel Medford is too close to the Original Billetproof venue (and too far from Seattle/Vancouver BC.). Does Hamb have any way of taking a Poll, other than individual comments, as to who would attend? Also weather here seems to be much more dependable (no rain) after mid-August.
Been getting lots of feedback, no real need for a poll. Here is the simple answer... everyone wants it either in, or close to where they live. The reality will be somewhat different. Venue is going to be important and I've got a few in mind that will work nicely. Host club is also key, but I've got a handle on that as well. Its likely there EVERYONE will have to drive a little to make the show . You heard me, road trip. Fire up your heap and go for little spin. It likely wont be too far for everyone involved, but it looks like it will be worth it. More details to come soon... but count on a Billetproof NorthWest in 2008 !!!
Carnation is having a national equestrian event as we speak, its a big deal, as a geographical oddity this town is close to everyone, I might add that Paul Newman was here last month, Courtney Love has a big house here, and Brad and Angelina have a place down the road a piece, and everyone has acres not backyards, so of course it makes sense
From what I see throw a dart with a location with a car club somewhere between Seattle/Sactown/ SLC or Boise and Spokane. Doubt that you'll see the 1000+ cars that PIR or others with big costs need to make it break even. I'd really like to only drive 300 miles instead of 2500.
Early summer is great on the east side of WA. Spokane has the Dear Park Raceway. There is a lot of racing heritage there and a load of old drag racers still living in and around the area. I live 100 miles from Spokane and would love to see Billet Proof out here. There is a very large contingent of hot rodders in eastern WA, North ID, western MT and South Eastern BC that would be crawling out of the wood work for a Billet Proof show over here. All of the major NW shows are on the west side of the state where the rain is.
