    My dad's been slowly going through a bunch of boxes of photos he got when his mom passed away a while back.

    He found this id tag...anyone able to help us figure out a year make or model from this thing.

    Model T. Mid teens to 20.

  3. those dates were update every year or two my guess is 1912-13. looks like California had emissions laws then too!
    there were few roads then imagine shipping across country was a long drive. talk to an old gal that drove a model T from Boise Id. to Portland Or in 1915 (about 400 miles) took her 7 days

    you must be seeing something I don't,
    I see nothing about emissions or California...?

    agree though, it must be within a year or two of the latest patent date
    it says "car", did they say "truck" when on trucks?

    "1915

    * Engine Serial Numbers: 656,064 to 1,028,313"

  6. I was referring to restrictions in some states and territories

    awesome...i knew I could count on the HAMB to figure something out on this deal.

    It's pretty neat rummaging through all these old photos. I don't remember or never met a lot of the people in the pix but 1/2 the fun is spotting all the cars.

    Zombo, NONAME, Paul, Squirrel...you guys rock..thanks!

  8. i wonder if the statement on the tag if you violate the patents the ownership of the car goes back to Ford Motor Co is legal?..or did i read it wrong?

    It probably is/was legal. Think about the agreements you sign when YOU buy software. It turns out that you don't actually own anything, they are just agreeing to let you use their software -- at least thats how I interpret those things:(

    As far as model goes, I think '42 and older, there were no identifying characteristics in the VIN, it was just a serial number. There might be some clue in the patent date, I have no clue on that though.
