My dad upholstered a 1936 Lincoln roadster(similar to the photo). Pretty cool hand made body with the golf-bag door on the side. It was run in the Great Race a few years ago by it's owner, Pete Prader. Amazingly, it was brought back to dad a couple of years later for a few touch ups from normal "wear and tear". The high quality leather and wool were dirty and well used. Pretty cool to see a wealthy man with a collection he ain't afraid to drive.
Just recently, dad upholstered a 1942 Caddy moredoor WWII "blackout special" (when plating was suspended). It was a neat education to see what items were "detuned" during war rationing.
The rarest one we've had in the family was a 54 Merc Sunliner. I loved that one. Put on sunscreen.

When I was in HS I worked at a body shop that did high end and restorations. We had a 1937 type 57C Bugatti in the shop, I got to move it around and buff it out. It had been setting a long time but was totally drivable. Info sheet says 630 made.

    '32 Plymouth Roadster.

Pretty much sold it for under $1000, was complete and an old Hot Rod. Had a flathead V8 in it, everybody talked so much shit about restoring it I felt bad for the car so much that I sold it to one of my friends thinking he would hook it up with somebody to do so.

First he had a 350 in it, now its got a Hemi out of a '56, I think hes going to keep it, and he's probably done it more justice than I could ever do, but damn would I like to have had it back. Heard it run the other day...

Metalshapes if your refering to the pics I posted. one of them had a jag engine another had a really cool tri powered lincoln. It's been a while now dose anybody on here know this guy. It was just a little house in a big ol lot with scattered cars all over the lot. then all of a sudden theres an opening to the underground parking garage like youd see under a big building.

  9. One of the guys here on the HAMB has a 1925 (or so) Detroit Electric Coupe body stored at my Michigan place. It's really a large body almost vicky style but only a single bench seat.

    Other than that a 1966 Bizzarini.(sp) 327 aluminum body on a 64-65 vette frame.

Best rod (in parts) was a 31 A roadster with a swing axle Banjo housing sitting in a backyard rusting in Hazel Park Mi. Sometime around 1973.Didn't take a picture so I ever figured out the brake & U-joint setup.

The 1915 Detroit electric was the first car to use curved glass,
has anyone ever seen a 1917 Woods, it was the first Hybrid.

My uncle fully restored and still owns a Seldon automobile....don't recall the model. Very rare. Seldon only made cars for like 3 years. Seldon held the patent on the automobile inthe USA until Henry Ford broke it in court. Car is friggin' huge. Has, if memory serves, a 350 somethig cubic inch 4 cylinder, and it will go down the road at 60 mph without even trying. My Father rode in it and said it was scary at that speed.

  12. I went to a meeting at the GM Heritage Center in Detroit where GM stores their historical vehicles. My favorites were Harley Earl's '51 LeSabre and '38 Y-Job, which were parked unceremoniously in front of the bathrooms.

Normally, I never get my picture taken with anything famous, but this was a bigger deal than if some celebrity came walking in for me!

During the '20s/'30s, GM tried out a number of "sister" makes: Cadillac had LaSalle, Buick/Marquette, Oakland/Pontiac. Pontiac was the only case were the junior make outlived the senior. I don't believe that either Oldsmobile or Chevrolet ever had sisters.

Buick's Marquette was only made for one year in 1930. I'd say it's just a curiosity; not valuable or particularly attractive.

  16. Ok, Still can't find the picture of the Moxie car, but here are a couple of the others and an interesting Vette.

The Orange car is the Lincoln Indianapolis 57 or 58.

The strange Bubble top for a Vette

And the last is the DMAR (the silver car in the forground.

i think other than that, the "rarest" i have come across and known about it, is a 59 desoto fireflight. almost bought it for 3 grand but the guy pulled some bullshit story about breaking down.

Couple of years ago had a guy call me about his 1948 Chrysler Town and Country Woodie Convertible.I looked at it and it was a basketcase. He priced it at $8000.00 and not knowing at the time how much they are worth I passed on the deal.He sold it a few weeks later to another car collector(for the $8000.00 price) who then did nothing to it but haul it home, list it on ebay, and make $12000.00 on it.Sure dropped the ball on that one.

There is a late '60s Iso Griffo in a junkyard ten miles from my house. Looks surprisingly complete too, just missing its interior and in overall sad shape.

A 1927 Dodge brothers touring car setting in a barn and was in very good shape. The pin stripping was still on the wooden wheels. The car has been removed from the barn about 4 years ago and no one knows what happen to it.

When I was a kid, we went to see one of my Pop's friends collections. They took me for a ride in a 1929 Rolls Landau. Used to belong to the Vanderbilts, and in the back, only one jump seat....for little Gloria Vanderbilt. Even at the ripe old age of 11, that car gave me goosebumps. It had an aluminum hood about 7 ft long, and when we stopped for gas, my pops balanced a nickel on end on the flat spot of the radiator. Idled so smooth you couldn't tell it was running!!

Was driving down the road and saw a warehouse with a bunch of old cars, most of which were odd-ball 20s and 30s stuff. Asked the guy if I could look around and he said ok. Place was dirty as hell with dog shit all over and smelled really bad. Anyway, I go into an adjacent room and there are about a dozen cars, one of which is an old, all original Bugatti race car. I couldn't believe it. Thing must have been worth a fortune.

    Orphan car? Check!
    Rare? Check!

Out in my garage are a pair of Autralian built Utility coupes. (UTEs)
The Plymouth is one of 505 made and one of only three in the states and is for sale. The Desoto is one of 275 made and the only one currently in the states.
I also have a 1958 Desoto Firemite 1/3 scale gas powered promotional car used by dealers to bring in customers. Not sure how many were made but there are only 5 currently accounted for.
Mne is not this nice but someday it will be.

And for anyone wanting to buy something rare just show up in Spencer Iowa October 20th 2007 for the Binder Desoto collection auction were at least one desoto of every year of production will be sold at no reserve. The 58 Ambulance is the only one known left and the woody wagon is very rare but so are many of the other cars!
