Im looking for a shim for the front of my model A im building. All i can find is the shims for reg axles, the ones where the angle goes long ways. I need one where it goes the other way (the short side) you know. That way i wount get a twist in my front spring when i set the castor. Any help, Thanx!

Are you running a stock A crossmember? I think the stock spring mount has six degrees angle built into it already. If you can, lay a level or angle finder on the crossmember and see what it tells you.

  3. That stock member may be six degrees but it really depends on the cars rake/stance. Six degrees relative to the frame isn't six degrees any more if its got a lotta rake! Don't shim it...set it up right from the start.

its a custom 2x4 box tubing frame i bought of some guy. It has a suicide front spring mount. The fram was never used b4. I thought it would be better to shim the spring a couple deg. that way when i go to set the castor with the split bones, it wount be so much of a bind on the spring. Is this not somthing i should do?

Do I understand you right in that the castor angle should be relative to the ground and not the chassis? I was wondering about that and still wanted to ask that question at some stage.

  7. relative to ground, it doesnt know or care where the frame is mounted.

As far as I am concerned nothin...had a shim made for my 31 five years ago and have 20K on iyt with no problem. I needed to reduce spring bind when setting my radius rods in the correct spot.

    Thanks.

Hopefully I'm getting my spring back today from having it narrowed. The suicide perch has not been welded to the frame yet, meaning I can set the front-end up with the right castor AND have no spring bind too.
