'32 Roadster for a grand?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by houseofhotrods, Aug 15, 2007.

  1. Yeah, this stuff does happen all the time. Couple weeks back I paid $25 for a brass model train that I ended up selling for $510 on eBay - even I didn't know what it was exactly when I bought it. Still waiting to find the $750 Hemi Superbird, though.

    wow! amazing story...
as much crap as people talk about egay and epay it still pays to check it out sometimes. Whats wierd though is that it really wasn't mis-listed. It was in the right category and had 1932 ford in the title!?!? the pictures were bad and the price was too low, so they must have thought "scam"
So did he get a title with it? I hope nothing comes back to bite him in the @ss with that..

He should get together with the guy who recently scored the Ardun Heads @ a yard sale for $300. And they can spread thier wealth to us.

Good for him, now I want a deal like that:D

Apparently the seller was contacted after the fact by several people, and offered more for the car (Gee wonder why ;) ), no I don't know how much more, but the people kept their word, honored the deal, and stuck by their original commitment. Gotta give 'em credit for that. I have been hosed before by those who have made a deal, then backed out, or wanted more when they realized someone would pay more. I think they liked that my friend was a car guy, and wasn't just getting it to make a buck and or flip it. I think they had a good time when they met in person, and both parties parted company happy. :)

I wondered if they were contacted with more offers, That is a rare quality for someone in this day and age to honor a deal.

Good to hear. Yeah there are allot of vultures in this hobby. There are folks that still (me incl.) sell Rare/Hard to find parts for an honest buck. To know that it's going to good use, instead of turning a fast buck. The only thing (it's just me) would be feeling a little guilty after the fact. Contrats and Good Luck! I see a Carson top on that roadster.

This sale is going to drive the "comps" down. It's about time.

What a great car. Those that think it's got a 'kookie' 'screen know not enough. Get yerseleves a stack o' Don Montgomery books and write out 1000 times:

" I'm a jerk. I know not what I see before me. I laugh and scorn and know nothing. Shame on me. I'm not worthy of the name Hot Rodder. I will beat myself harder than 4ever4 beats himself, for missin' this opportunity of a life time".

I think the sellers knew exactly what they were sellin'. A 1932 Ford roadster that they're Dad built. It seems what they didn't know was, how much 50,000+ Rodders would gladly pay for it in 2007.

Let's be honest. If they'd sold it that cheap to pi** *ff someone, $10 dollars is mighty more pi**-*ffable than $1,000. Chances are, they'd (sellers) thought they were being cheeky askin' SO MUCH! Hell, it's a rusty old 'ford', seventy odd years old, Dad messed about with it an' that would need repairing. It had lost it's engine & 'box. Needed an interior, paint, new tyres, possibly new wheels, lights..... Get the picture?

Deals like this shouldn't be so surprising. We have a BBC TV program that often has folks turning up with antique finds worth 10 of thousands of pounds (double that fer dollars:D ). Many times they find this 'junk' in their attic or garage and were just about to 'bin it' when the TV show rolls into town (it tours the country) and let's 'em know they're loaded.

Kool score. Once it's on the road get the buyer to post a clip on 'Tube Lube' an' put a smile on all our faces. You gotta love it. Great story.

Hey figure this. If someone hadda been ripped off for a 1000, wouldn't you toss 'em 50 cents worth of hardluck? They'd soon have their money back. No?

    Koops.....

So how much is it really worth? Could he have gotten $5,000? $10,000? He probably wanted to sell it to someone who was not going to flip it.

Well the stuff is still out there. I read an Ebay story about a guy who misspelled a search word and "bingo",he found a rare bike that a guy had also misspelled his entry:eek: .The bike had won Daytona and then been passed around to where no one knew the history.
Remember too that in "Buy it now" situations. You are agreeing to buy it.Not pay it then (seems to happen to me when I'm selling stuff! ).
If they want to pull some crap on the money end, thats when you start reciting Monty Python "run away".If you are completing the transaction through ebay, not too much to worry about.

I will give the new owner 10 grand ... today ... travel the 2500 miles 1 way to get it and promise him I will not sell it. :)

It would stay in my family ... with my other 32 roadster and 32 3W coupe. :D

I have seen photos of the new owner and his family ( Elsewhere on the net ... ) and I am happy for him. He is reported to be a real good man and a long term 32 owner. The car found a good home ... IMHO.

After viewing the auction, it is amazing that the car is really as nice as it is. The pics in the auction are pretty bad and don't really tell the picture.

So... I guess this is one of those rare deals where what you got is way nicer than what you were hoping for... Just the opposite of many deals on ebay. Usually a carefully taken outdoor shot from 20 feet has you dreaming that the car is way nicer than it is and then you show up and it is just a death trap piece of junk...

I must agree that it would be a shame to build this car any way other than what was originally attended back in 1949 or so...

    Very cool.......
