I am sure that this has been covered before here on HAMB, but thought that it might be a good time to mention it again. I have a very Smart Mouse in my old Chevy that I cannot catch. I have used Glue Traps and Mouse Traps with no luck at all. Is there any suggestions without using poisons to get rid of that critter so that he will not die somewhere in the car that I cannot reach? I thought that the Glue Traps would work great and I could catch and remove the mouse and not stink up the car especially with this heatwave going on where I live. My whole car floorboard and most of the trunk area is full of Glue Traps, but he just goes around them somehow and mocks my every move. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

The standard mouse trap will work EVERYTIME, but like many things in life it may need a Hot Rodder's touch. A little bending of the thin rod and or trigger piece will make it a HAIR trigger (watch your fingers) I've bent them where you could hardly breathe on them and they'd go off. But that's really not needed either. Get yourself a little cheese and tie it on there with a little string. Sounds a bit much but it helps - especially when they're "smart".

Food outside the car to bait him and then after a day or two of feeding him..........glue traps all over the floor and you will catch him. Bait & Switch...

I caught 15 of the little buggers in my car last winter, got a new trap that is plastic and you don't have to get your fingers in the way. You squeese the back part together to latch it, I smeared some peanut butter under the top and they loved it. missed a couple every once in a while, but most times got em good

  7. Yes, they do like peanut butter and it doesn't come off as easily as a piece of cheese.

If you do have mice actually living in the car I'd suggest removing the seats and door panels anyways. If there's a nest in there mice don't hesitate to shit where they eat and sleep and you don't want that stink in the car, best bet is to clean that all out.

I've even had a car where they nested inside the valve cover, of all places, so it could be worse.

Standard mouse trap. Smush some velveeta or kraft processed yellow cheese deep into the trigger so they gotta work for it. Place it along an edge they're known to run on. Don't reuse the trap, just throw it away with the mouse. They can smell death on the trap and often won't touch em afterwards, no matter how well it's baited.

You are right on except for throwing the trap away. I have used the same trap over and over again for up to three years. The spring wears out and you end up catching live ones that you have to deal with.

I really don't think they can smell death on the trap. They are just not that smart.

they cannot resist the peanut butter(squashed hard) on the rectangle part of an old style mouse trap
    OR
try the water bucket, pop can, trick

  13. Another trick of the mouse trap use, is to use a small part of peanut butter cup. Mice love chocolate. Also sticking a needle or pin into the cheese or chocolate in the bait area makes the trap hair triggered plus the mouse will have to work harder to get the bait. Whambo, dead mouse.

I keep cats in the garage (by accident), they get locked in at night. I never see any mice. "I do have scatch marks on my cars paint for some reason?"

Scatter some "Bounce" dryer sheets around in the interior, under the hood, in the trunk, and up the exhaust pipes when you're not driving it. They hate 'em.

Throw some around the garage, too - and they'll find other quarters.

thanks for the tips, I'll see about some peanutbutter equipped new mouse traps. I think the mice here mostly know about the glue traps and wood traps by now. Evolution in action.

  17. Another method in a shallow dish of beer. Some mice cannot resist it and drink until they slip in and drown.

  19. Wear a mask when using the shop vac to remove dried mouse droppings. It's not good for you to get it in your lungs.

mice always run in pairs so what ever you do, even if you catch one be sure to reset the trap .

Better yet for bait, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Mix up a little of the cheese to make a thick paste and smear it on the trigger. Don't bother with generic, the mice won't.

They will as long as the previous kill doesn't bleed on it. Done it many times, using the cheese trick I already posted.

i use a piece of smokey dog for bait catching rats, i tie it to the triger of a wooden trap, i bet i caught 10 rats with the same piece, turns into leather i think. got rid of all the rats.

  25. Come to think of it, a plastic bucket with a half a quart of old oil will do the trick, too, I left one in the garage years ago that way figuring to wait until I did an oil change to get rid of it and forgot about it... later on when I finally did go to dump it, there were lumps in it... after enough oil ran off of one I realized it was a pretty old, dead, mouse.

A mouse hunting snake died in my car and it took a long time to get the smell out. (Actually a 5 ft. chicken snake) Much worse than a dead mouse.
I have used flour for bait on mouse traps with good success.
Also got some of the plug ins in my shop that are supposed to hurt their little ears.....I swear I saw a mouse the other night with ear plugs.:D
