The new "BUZZ" WORD barn find

I did a search and looked to see if we attacked this yet
500 threads with the word BARN FIND ..
not going to read thru them all, so if we have and its a dull subject
let it drop

Lately people have been using those words and LOOK WHAT I FOUND ! like it was a lost gold watch
in reality the car is in someone yard, garage, etc. waiting for its turn
to be repaired or the owner dies and someone else can dream

Just got the new HOT ROD magazine, thumb thru it has a bunch
or real or not BARN FINDS !

 

Here's my 63 Impala SS 'barn find'...just slid out of a real barn too..

Honestly, i'd rather read barn find than rat rod..at least you get to see some cool old iron waiting to be saved rather than some pile of **** someone built to create a stir..
I love seeing early iron that's been stashed or just hiding someplace get "found".

Well, then I am different ..

I think of a "barn find" as that, something that was stored in the begining short term, in a shed, barn, garage , etc.
Mostly complete, running when parked maybe ?

Not something laying in a grove, or a pasture or ??
It should be somewhat complete ?

And it SHOULD BE FOUND , not seen while driving by ?

example ...hey, I know where this old car is sitting in this garage
and he died, moved, etc..Years and years ago

You open the door, whatever and its a time capsule of a by gone era
40's , 50's . . . 60's ?

But thats me ..I'm a dreamer

 

Is it really a Barn Find if it's sitting out in a field?

my grandfather traded in a 64 gto in late '69 for a firebird 400. he died in early '70 from cancer. the firebird is in my grandmothers barn wearing the original redline tires!! it's red with black interior. hood tach, etc... i hate to see it deteriorate like it is, but i've got 4 uncles in front of me who would like to have it too!!

It certainly was lost if it's been sitting for 50+ years. No caring owner of anything would let something sit that long if they cared about it.

them "in this weeks auto trader,i was the first one to call!! isnt it cool that i found this car!"

You actually took time to do a search for something you think is a dull subject? Why don't you just move onto the next thread next time you see barn find and quit wasting time posting yet another "BARN FIND" thread that you hate so much. According to you there is 500 threads with the words BARN FIND in the ***le... this would make yours 501.

 

I strongly disagree, if someone has a car for 50+ years in a barn he is getting pleasure out of having it. Far better to have the car in one piece that a ****tered 50+ year old restoration project.

 

I sort of agree but I don't know if it makes enough difference to get worked up over.

"Look what I bought out of a farmers field" is certainly more accurate than "Look at what I found". Unless of course the farmer was paying you to plow his field and you had to dig it up.

My car sat in a garage for over 20 years but as noted, it was never lost.

 

YOU need to read my post better ...Or, like you I can find drama where there is none

Well, there is a couple of ways that you can take your post. Why even mention "BARN FIND" then? When people say "look what I found"...you know what they mean. I recently located an old set of magnesium wheels when some guy was cleaning out his barn (yes..it really was a barn). I did not post anything about it, but if I did, I would have said "look what I found". The way I see it...we are all out there looking for the good stuff...cars, wheels, engines and old high speed equipment etc...and in a sense when someone else locates it before another hot rodder does....you know what...they "found it" before I did.

 

oh oh now we have the 'Barn Find' rules! well I,ll bite. A friend, Fitz told, me about a 39, buick spl. coupe in a orange grove, [next to a barn]. So I bought it.'{$75} It was really dirty, but all original, I rubbed it out and put in a newr straight 8 etc. ran great. I saw an ad in the paper, a 39, century sedan, was all dirty, in a turkey coupe. all orig. [it wasnt a coupe,or a turkey].I didnt get back w the money [$125] another, same deal was a basket case duece roadster, bought it [for 3 bills]around 11pm it was under a tarp in a dairy shed. then a rumor about a deuce sedan, Garat knew the guy, got it for 75 bucks, I stuck a chevy in it and drove it. The best one was the duece tub, and Garat got it for me [$75 again] put it on the sedan ch***is,Rosen has it now. Fitz told me about [12 yrs ago] backyard full of 33 ,34 and duece bodies, fenders and parts, now i have a duece sedan, it just looks like a 'barn find'. These are good stories, but we can only judge for ourselves, whats good and whats true. These are true, 'and they arent barn finds', and. 'I wasnt dreaming'. but was long ago!

 

I got mine out from a carport in a backyard. Does that count?

 

so does this mean i am going to have to search for "barn find" on ebay ....seems like its about time for some new buzz word .....g***er patina and rat rod have been over used for a while now..... going to pull my 61 biscayne out...might call it a garage find..... brandon .

 

One of the cars in the article is mine,..... and it was "Found",..... are we "splitting-hairs" here ? and does splitting hairs really matter ?

 

My dad loves to tell the story of when he was a kid back on the farm in Kansas (mid to late 30's). He and his cousins would go in the barn and play in an old Case car. It seems his Grandfather bought it new and a few weeks later my dad's uncle snuck it out for a joy ride and broke the axle in a ditch. They drug it back to the barn and there it sat.
Fast forward to about 2001 and my dad fly's my grandmother back to Kansas for a visit. He asked his aunt, who still had the farm, "Whatever happened to that old car in the barn?" She answered that oh about five years ago some guy came by and offered to take it off their hands. My dad asked what price they got for it? She got this ****eating grin on her face and said "The dummy gave us fifty dollars for it".
She then proceed to tell how they buyer pulled the tarp off the Case, brushed off the hay and dust, hooked it up to a battery and it started with the original gas.

Now that was a "barn find".

I agree with the thread. Much over used term now-a-days.
