The level of fabrication on that thing is mind blowing. I'd like to see a gallery of it being built.

Yep, the fab is top notch. Standing back from a project is a good thing to do too.

This is the kind of response the vehicle was clearly supposed to incite... and it's that exact fact that I think is so cool about it.

That was the point of the thread though.... it's a new kind of hot rod that part of the point of the build is to make people go "oooh aaah" over the fabrication and work involved to make it what it is.

Granted, all rods have great stories behind their builds, and it's no less fun to hear their stories.... but there's something that really gets me about a car that you can't deny that there's a TON of work behind the build.

It's the same reason I like cramming modern engines in vintage frames with modern suspension components with motorcycles... because it's a good challenge and the work is half the fun. :)

Pratts shoebox and Vaughns '54, that is why I bought the latest issue. Mr. Pratt is a customer of mine and man did he do a good job of keeping his latest creation on the down low from me. As for Nacho' truck....a little different and creative but, not my cup of tea. It is kool looking and hats off to him for being different. KNUX!

Yeah... Pratts shoebox made me change my shirt. It was uncomfortable wearing the first after I had drooled all over it. :D

    So don't build one.

Save us all the migraine of hearing the complaint about it though.

53Burb at least had some class...

    Well put.

I was fortunate to see Nacho's hot rod up close.
As stated above it really is a work of art,
and the quality metalwork encompasses some real hot rod artifacts,
(rearend, kong ignition/heads, race shocks etc)

It was also cool to live in Nacho's reaction to the magazine,
as he had only received it the day before.
As a builder the time and quality are top notch and he is deserving.

    However,
if there is a problem I think it is with the Rodder's Journal magazine itself.
Why would they put a SERIOUSLY UNFINISHED car on the cover?
So much important stuff is missing, pedals, brakes, anything to make it run...
It really isn't a Hot Rod yet but a skeleton,
and has the potential of never being a driven car.
The stuff that is missing is the hardest or most expensive to do.
(They did that with J.shines pickup too.)

However if you look at the other previous San Jose specials,
    (with Pat Lash's roadster)
You can look thru the metalwork and appreciate what goes into a running car.

I dont like it either.i think it was a waste of very good fabrication time, which the guy obviously has.i agree with Muttley.

Everyone read the above, it's the best thing anyone has said here. Every era had it's own style, this is the style of 2007, and I believe it's a good thing. For hot rodding to remain fresh, we can't all keep doing what's already been done, how boring would that be? There's nothing wrong with building things in a "traditional" style as the HAMB describes it, but in my opinion, the true tradition of hot rodding is pushing the envelope and creating something uniquely your own, I think he did a fine job doing that, weather anyone else likes it or not.

The vehicle is a work of art!!! Nacho put more time, effort and work into it than most any body would be willing to put into a car, it has very rare and expensive parts on it and the level of fabrication is awesome. Sure some of you will be jealous because you don't own these parts or are capable of such a high level of skill to build a car like this, but that is no reason to bash it. I'm not saying that the car is going to please every body, but he took very traditional parts, used traditional ways of fabrication and followed traditional styling guide lines and built some thing that is his own and isn't going to look like so many other hot rods. I find it very refreshing to see cars built to push the boundaries a bit, but that could have still been build decades ago.

Truthfully, it's no more an adaptation of traditional parts than lots of billet show rods, just in a cartoony bare-bones direction instead of a blingy direction. And you know how well billet goes over here. Props to Nacho, he's got mad ability and dedication.

"Mobile showcase of fabrication skills" is an excellent description, and that truck is gonna sell shop time for sure.

Ever see a stripper that tries so hard to be hot that ultimately you wonder if she'd be hotter by undoing the last couple alterations?

left in some pictures and right in others???

    Reversed negative.....?
    Change of mind?

If that was mentioned,i missed it.

Antique speed parts and some traditional styling cues combined with modern fabrication techniques and a modern, radical interpretation of classic style and stance... how about calling it a "Neo-Traditional Hot Rod"? A bit oxymoronic, but it fits.

I think it's pretty neat, BTW. This (Neo-Trad?) style is all about getting the proportions right, and this one is dead on.

Fuck Tradition, Hands down Notch's car Awsome. The pics of the car do not do it justice. If you knew the Nacho You would see how he just tweaks out on everything he does and is on a totally detailed artistic page that many ppl out there cannot comprehend. He's a genius fabricator .

I actually saw a cartoon drawing he did years ago of this car. scribbled in a work order notebook, he had the car in his mind for along time and the finished product compared to the cartoon drawing is exact.

Notch builds for himself not for the masses. Im stoked notch finally gets some well deserved ink!

If everybody liked it then it wouldn't be art, it would be model building on a 1/1 scale.

I dug the Descendents as well back in the day, just as much as i dig Nacho and his creation!

I like it very much and i'm amazed in the work that was put into this vehicle. When i first saw it in Sellers garage awhile back, it fully stood out and grabbed my attention. If you ever get to see this truck in person, you won't be dissatisfied, it's really a nice piece of work of art. and yes... it a hotrod if wanna label it anything more than it is.

How did the "bobber" term go from two wheels to four:rolleyes:

Great Job Notch and congrat's for being able to grace the cover of such a respected magazine.

    stay blessed:)

I didn't care to see someones unfinished project become the cover of TRJ. I would've rather seen the Kennedy coupe on the cover. Anyone with an engineering background will tell you that drilling giant holes in your frame right where the engine sits (the most weight in one small place) is not a good idea. Once he hit's a good pothole or something, that frame will twist or bend. He drilled holes everywhere....why not the backing plates???

I understand the argument here, but TRJ is in the business of selling magazine, Nachos ride grabbs the attention for that certain someone to drop the Ol'Skool magazine and pick there's up. I like it, I think it's a work of art, I would love to see this thing up close. The Kennedy Coupe is bad ass no dis-respect to them guys...

Its great fabrication and compilation of mechanical components . Its cool but not for everyone. I like the fact that he built it the way everyone should build his/her ride. The way he wanted without giving a crap that someone else is or isnt gonna like it. Hes the only one responsible for it at the end of the day.................

Nacho's pickup is similar to other hot rods featured in TRJ... there was that article on the 2 with Chevy 6's... I don't have it in front of me... 1 was a beautiful roadster with sweeping pipes and welded doors. The other had way too much of the swiss cheese treatment.

Hot Rods / Neo Rods? I don't know... and I really don't care. In my mind it's not a rat rod. The finish is too well done. NeoRat?.

It's punk rock like Green Day is punk rock.

EDIT: but I guess that my response really doesn't answer the questions at hand. I'm betting that we start seeing more and more of this style of hot rod built. The guys are TRJ know what they are doing - this is a trend that is here to stay.

Shine's pickup was one of the originators of the bare-metal look... I've seen the truck in person and I can say that the workmanship is there.

What we are talking about are hot rods that are well built, kinda cartoonie in style, maybe a mean looking, using parts that were originally only used to build traditional hot rods.

Remember the Phantom Bantam?? I'm betting if Nacho's was painted it would end up looking perfect parked next to it.

I don't really care what you call it.

I will call it a truck that I like.

I also want that ronald McDonald statue in my front yard.

Plowboy. That is from the McDonalds from France. They show their artistic flair even at fast food joints. They serve "la royale w/cheese" there! KNUX!
