I don’t get up before sunrise for too many things, in fact, I never, ever get up that early…ever EXCEPT for the morning that we leave Blanding for Wendover. The Super 8 that everyone stays at is directly across the street from Sumner’s place where everyone was meeting at 6AM:eek: …..which is before the sun actually rises.

While waiting for folks to gather their stuff I took a few minutes to snoop around on the side of Sumner’s shop

Megan, the fashion plate. Sometimes warmth comes before fashion:D
    [IMG]

About this time Daryl, one of Hooleys sponsors, hands us all patriotic polo shirts with the 974 logo and stuff on it. We all put them on and posed for photos. It was a nice to be treated like one of the team. Thanks Daryl!

Less then an hour into the trip north we had to stop because of construction. We turned the cars off and chatted while we waited our turn for the one lane.

    Lots of awesome scenery

When we got to the turnoff to head to Bo Huff’s place some of the folks continued north to set up in the pits and some took a side trip to Bo’s. We stopped at his shop first to check things out

The guys in the shop told us that Bo went home so we headed over there. His son answered and said he was at the local diner so we headed over there. Kinda felt like we were stalking him.

Anyway we caught up with him as he was leaving the diner. He was pleasantly surprised to see us and after chatting for abit he invited us over to his museum.

So I proceeded to stick a Salt Cured HAMB Tour 2007 in an easy to spot location.

While we were there he got a package and was so excited to see the artwork inside that he opened it while we were there. Cool stuff
    [IMG]

Bo and Larry really hit it off talking not only cars but art and music as well. Believe it or not, two peas in a pod.

Bo is so sweet and hospitable. He kept asking to treat us to burgers at the café and really, really wanted us to stick around and hang out. He truly seemed interested in having us as visitors. He’s a GREAT guy and I enjoy spending time with him.

We bid Bo our goodbyes and promises to see each other soon and headed out. Our next scheduled stop was planned for Price where we wanted to find a place where Megan could get some photos made hopefully close to a place where we could not only get the oil changed in the cars BUT a place where I could apply the Salt Away product that I bought for appling to the cars before they hit the salt.

Anyway, we found a Walmart with a quickie oil change place and they agreed to allow us in the pit while they were changing the oil. I was a two fisted sprayer.

Here’s where everyone can learn a lesson….never let your friends have you camera….even for a short time. While I was slaving away underneath Big Olds a couple of my “pals” were running amuck with my camera in Walmart.

There were a couple others as well but they weren’t really G or PG rated and I know a few people who’s kids are reading these blogs.

Back to the garage area, me and my new pal who is the one that allowed us under the cars which I guess is kinda a no no from what we were told.

Once all the chores were completed we headed out via two lanes to Ratster’s place for a HAMB Meet & Greet BBQ. It was WONDERFUL to meet you and your family. Your new daughter is beautiful. THANKS so much for hosting the party for all us HAMBers. Very much appreciated.

Cool cars and cool people….what more could you ask for?

Mike’s from AZ, nice to finally meet you in person bud.

Had some great food, hung out and chatted then headed out to Wendover. Caught a beautiful sunset while we headed west. I like sunset a hole lot better then sunrises.

Once we arrived in the Motel 6 parking lot we all got a second wind and hang out chatting with old pals and meeting new ones. I swear, the majority of the folks at this motel were HAMBers. We finally went to bed with dreams of the Salt Flats in our heads.

  9. Denise.... a huge thankyou. As someone from a totally different part of the world (New Zealand), I love your do***ented road trips for the scenery. Well the cars are cool too LOL! I've been to LA, San Fran, Nth Texas, OKC, Arkansas, Mississippi and Memphis and left wanting more. You've given me a fabulous insight into the rest of the US, not just in this trip, but in your previous ones too. Keep it up!

What can I say? I hate Hellmart and had to entertain myself somehow. Good call on censoring out the R ones. How did my rear get in there? That must have been while I was selecting the perfect prop for the next photo!
I will have to download my pics and post the photo of the "tech" eating a dreamsicle while Larry changed his own oil!

We really did have as much fun as it looks. Times not to be soon forgotten!

How did the Salt Away work? With all the rain you were in you probably didn't have work at getting the salt off.

I'm still workin' on the mod, driving through the " salt lake" at the end of the road was the worst. The fan picked up the water, even got on the carb and started to pit it!!

Good to hear you made it home all right. Thanks to you and Bob for the stickers.

You treat him well. He's a lucky guy.

(or maybe its because he's eating BBQ???):p:D

Fun City!!! Wow a neat exposure of Bo's joint, what a cool stop. I would give my left, no on second thought , can I buy one of those large Tour stickers from you. Please save me one if possible. Cool scenery shots, another great turn out with some great rods and customs, I see Larry's concentration is on the chow, Meg is a fashion starter for sure, loved the patriotic shirts also. Party on Thanx for the update.-Sololobo/Roadburners of Omaha

They are not for sale. They were given to those that made an effort to attend one of the Meet & Greets along the way, or folks that we ran into that we enjoyed their company. I p***ed them out with the name tags at your party. I must have missed you. PM me your address and I'll send you one.

Man, I cannot believe that double-tailed Merc is STILL not done...he's been working on that for at least 8 years now...and the last time I saw that Caddy pick-up it was patined baby blue...but I do see the kustom '47 Chevy convert is now moved/gone and another Merc is in its' place...

Bo has some wild ideas running around in his head...and they work their way onto metal...

His "museum" is a place to behold...

Say "greetings" to Sunmner for me, will ya Denise...???

WOW!! Bo has a very cool shop. Thanks again for the update Denise. One of these days I'd like to know what kinda budget is needed to do a trip like this. I set a goal over two years ago to make it to Bonne but that two years slipped right on by, in the blink of an eye. It's still a life goal to make Bonne, even if I have to hitchhike out there. Good job!

Megan and I both thought about $2000 each, I think Larry did too.

The three of us pooled, $1250.00 each into an envelope that covered the basic expenses for two cars, three people; fuel (most expensive), hotel/motel, anything related to the cars such as oil change, the Salt Away purchase, entry into all the different parks, bottled water, ice, and grocery items such as lunchmeat and bread. This amount did not cover eating out in resturants, personal items bought along the way, and stuff like that. We were on the road 17 days.

Thanks for the pictures and all the info about your trip. I like the way you nailed down what it cost you each, that's good information.
Also that guy that asked "who the heck is Bo Huff" a few months ago needs to read this tread.
    Thanks Again

I was thinking about the math a little this morning...
If my calculations are correct we used about 575-600 gallons of gas or roughly $1700 worth!
A small price to pay to see this great country of ours and meet a ton of wonderful hot rodders!

Used to be I budgeted $125.00 a day for gas, motel and eats to go rod running...needless to say, it's gone up considerably...I now budget $200 a day...(and usually don't spend it all)...!!!

Well Big Olds is a hog, he needs OD pretty bad. Get on that GMBs!

I calculated distances (since the roadster odometer was off) and it looks like we covered around 6000 miles. That includes main transit and also driving around the flats, the national parks, etc.

So 575 divided by 6000 miles would be roughly 10 1/2 miles per gallon. Woohoo! We love fossil fuels!

HRLC and "Bob" feel free to chime in if my calculations are off...

About 1/2 of what my clown car got (the Crossfire). I was getting 27 - 28mpg. At one stop we figured that Big Olds was gulpin' the petrol at 13 mpg:eek: .
