Just got a Message from Denise saying Jerry is about 160 miles south of Joplin on his way to the HAMB drags and his trans is going, he think it's the cluster gear so he will be looking for a Camaro T-5 in the Joplin/Springfield area so he can replace it for drive back to Arizona. If you have one, know where to get one or can give him a hand give him a call. He think he'll make it in late tonight to Jolpin and he is staying at the KOA Jerry's cell # 602-524-9308 Thanks
I tried to call him and left a message. I'd think the most logical way to Joplin would be 40 to 44 so if he does that he will be within .5 miles of my house and there is an exit two miles away. He has a place to crash out or work on it if it works for him. If he stuck to 40 most of the way and then shot North he's a ways from my place...
I just got off the phone with Jerry. He just has fourth gear. he said he is gonna limp it the KOA in Joplin. Hopefully the swap meet wit have a 5 speed. I had a 4 speed I was gonna bring for him buth that would require a different driveshaft, flywheel, etc . He a a few guys with him amd said he would make it tonight just fine. Help find him a tranny though locally Rusty
Cool! I was dreading him crashing here. That dude can snore!!! I had to go sleep on the porch at the HAMB gas at Radshit's place... Hope you don't mind, I changed the title to cover the current need and stuck it...
and from what I hear he will be using the lift at JimC's place down down the road from the host hotel Ramada. The HAMB rocks!!
wow, what power the hamb has....... it won't be long fellas, like i've been talking about, we WILL rule the world........first we must guarantee our fuel supply.......
Jerry is a real hot rodder form back in the day. A real stand up guy, and glad he lives near me so I can pick his brain for info and stories.
Thanks everyone for the support! I as at about 65 miles south of OK city when I heard what sounded like a really bad rod knock. I'm thinking WTF now! I figured it's small block chevy, what's the problem with blowing it up! Then figured out what was happening and just figured to tough it out. I got some really funny looks at the toll booths on I44! One attendant said to Elpolacko "I don't think he's going to make it." Limped into the Joplin KOA at 11:30 thursdau=y nite. got some rest and headed over to the Ramada to look for a ride to the Springfield swap. Thanks ro Zman for the ride there and back and the fun times there! Can't forget the scoops! Looking at all kinds of neat stuff to buy but had to keep reciting to myself, "Must fix trans! Must find trans! Must fix trans!" Found one on the second row while walking thru, S-10 with a camaro tailshaft. And a price tag of $350! Went on to the 3rd row and found another T5 out of an S-10, but it had a transfer case on it. Price tag of $350 again! jerry
We continued walking and on the 4th row found an unmolested S-10 T5. It even had the shifter with it and an8 ball shift knob! Best part was it had a price on it of $125! I had to ask if he would take $199 for it, Then he said he would split the diffrence with me! So I ended up paying $113 for it! A big thank you to an anonymous Springfield vendor! Thankfully he was only about 50 yards from BenD's booth! I dropped the trans off at Ben's truck and visited for awhile there. Thank you BenD for transporting it to the hotel for me. jerry
Left the truck at the Ramada on friday nite. Started trying o find parts on sat morning. Had to change over from a camaro clutch disc to one that fit the S-10 input shaft! Thanks to Rashy for chasing parts with me! Eventually got the truck to Ryno's for the morning donut feed. He graciously offered the use of his shop for the work needed. Floorjacks and jackstands were soon under the truck and we began the tear down. Thanks to Sgtlethargic for the assist under the truck. I forgot the mount so Rashy ran to the store again for me! Thanks to Fltblk for shortening the input shaft and running to the store for the alignment tool that the supplier forgot to provide! Got it all mounted up and found that ai had forgotten to drill out the mounting holes to 1/2 in from the metric it comes with. So had to pull the trans our again to redrill the holes. Put it all back together and got to tha races at about 3:00! Had a fantastic time! jerry
This was a year for thrash's. On friday the vagabonds tore intoo Louverdudes 53. He busted a converter on his 200/4r. Found a killer local shop that let LD and Bill redo the front seal and pump vane, sold them a new converter as well, very cheap I might add. Beers were flowing after a mere 3 hours of work.
Just a short post to let everyone know that we had an uneventful trip back to phoenix. Just have to remember to take it eas since the clutch disc is only ( 1/2 inch diameter! Wonder why I didn't run it? jerry
