how do i remove the front suspension from a 53 plymouth? do i jack up the lower arm and then remove the spindal and shock? then slowly let everything down or will this cause me to lose my teeth as the spring shoots out and hits me in the face?

I put the jack under the lower ball joint, undo the shock and the spindle and let it down. SLOWLY. Also be sure to have the car up in the air high enough to let the a frame swing all the way down.

If you're woried about projectile spurting springs put a chain through the coils and bolt or lock it to the A arm or frame so it can't fly very far.

In theory, your teeth should be just fine, but Dr. Js advice sounds like great insurance. I did the same job on a 51 Ford today, just the way you described it.
