    Rudy is my friend.
    I am proud of that.

He doesn't know about cyber space or the status and effects of his creations. He shies away from compliments and puts his head down and works. He creates then moves on. With all the incredible cars that have come out of his garage since "The Truck" you would think no one would even remember it. But they do. They always will.

After selling his custom Mercury far a down payment on a house, Rudy had nothing more than a collection of junk that he couldnt even give away. So, he turned them into, well,.....

The owner of "The Truck" came to him personally and asked if he would bring it back to the way it was when it left. Whores and all. Rudy was honored and agreed.

After spawning hundreds of clones and creating its own sub-genre of hotrods, this morning The Real Rudy Truck came home.

Good. I love that Tijuana special paint job. One of my favorite hot rod details of the past decade. Who the hell took it off ? That's what I wanna know.

If its the guy who owns the museum still owns the truck..I suggested that he should put the hookes back on it a year ago and he thought I was out of my mind...

i'm glad its comming back to get the hookers.

i never knew that was the same truck. if there was a genre or a definitive look of a hotrod created over the last decade this would be one of them. When it first appeared in Hot Rod Deluxe I was blown away.

There have been many immitators, but they are a sad comparison. Some one once asked about rat trucks or something, this truck was the one line awnser to all the questions. To bad you have to be less than 5'5" to drive it.

bring it back, just like it was!

The truck is "bitchin" as Rudy would say but the paint is too kitsch for me.

  8. Rudys truck was cool in its day but the Rocky 33 kicked its ass in style..........props to Wayne Gossen. A true unsung hero.

It's weird the guy didn't just paint over the old hoe's,
    he actually stripped them off.
Wasn't his mom not into it or something?

I think the removal of the steelies/white walls/Merc caps did just as much damage to the overall look, maybe even more.

    Thanks Thom,

Alright heres the deal. My father in law bought the truck from Rudy. This was the first car he bought instead of building. He brought the truck here. He didn't care for the hookers, so he took them off. His mom or his wife could have given a shit less so those stories are pure bull shit. I give total credit to Rudy for building a bitchen little truck, but my father in law only improved upon it mechanically once in Indiana.

The flatty was completely rebuilt with all the internals that were supposed to be in it when he bought it. A few suspension pieces were fixed that needed attention from normal wear and tear. He put window glass in, and a few other things that just made it a more enjoyable hot rod.

As far as the Hookers go, I didn't care for them either, but thats just me. If it were mine I would have repainted the whole thing, I just dont care for things in 3- 5 different colors. I agree that the wheels looked better before but I am not a fan of wire wheels, how ever I think the black walls are an improvent. It is all opinions and they are all different. If Pachi wants the hookers back on, thats great, its his truck.

I will leave you with this before I go. This picture was taken by my good friend Roy (racer 5c) at Rudy's place while him and Steve (my father inlaw) were visiting Rudy during the LA Roadster show after Steve removed the hookers.

There is no need to judge a guy for making an alteration to his own car, this should all still be about having fun.. The purpose of this post is intended to inform people who are interested, nothing more, nothing less.

Rudy doesnt and didnt care what anyone did to it and he became very good friends with the first owner.... the whores were removed with his blessing. The fact that the owner even put Rudy into the loop convey's a man that has great integrity as well as respect for the builder.

I like it either way. It actually looks better now, the paint was too much. Anyway, is there any more information on this build? I have a 52 F1 that I can't sell so, my son and I are thinking about doing something like this to it. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

It's funny... I really like that truck, but not the sub genre it created... make sense?

I would love to see it detailed and shiny....

Rudy is one of the top builders in the country... no doubt. The guy is amazing.

You're right Ryan...that's why we've held off for so long on starting to build one. It has to be done perfectly or it's not going to look right. I've seen some of the copies and they look like shit if not done just right.

it's kinda funny...when that truck came out(think American Rodder feature)it made a huge impression on all of us, certainly a trendsetter. i even had a 37 ford truck cab i wanted to hot rod after that. but now seeing the pics, my reaction was pretty much "meh". in no way is that a slam on the truck or rudy, more of an observation on what has transpired in hot rodding in the last ten years(!) or so since this truck made the scene. when that truck was built there were no rat rods, no fake patina, no olskoolratrodkulturedeluxe magazines. now we got guys who claim to have been "in the scene" forever who would think that truck is just another johnny come lately rat rod.

a few years ago when it was big news that the hookers were gone, i voted that the truck should have been preserved as it was, now i'm all for a few revisions and shiny paint.

  22. i agree, that truck needs shiny black paint!

  23. Jeez ray, you echoed what I wanted to type out. I too saw that AR feature. If I remember the model was a hottie! grrrrrrrrrrrrr

i just had to chek out the mag collection, guess my memory is off a few years, that truck was featured in may 02 AR. only five years...wow. i thought it was the very late 90's.

and yeah, the model was nice!

  25. I want one of these cabs - just to chop & stick in the corner of the garage for later.

I like the wires & blackwalls better than the wide whites & steelies. I don't care, one way or the other, about the hookers.

Ironically, one of the nicknames of the guy who did the lettering/logos is "Hooker".

  27. I think the hookers are pretty. I always wanted to see a close up picture of them.

I want to thank all of you that sold your fenders to me during this time. I am still buying 35-37 Ford p/u fenders if anyone has some. Some day I will rule the fender world.

  29. I remember driving by that truck on the highway on the way into Paso years ago - it was the first time I had my roadster out in Cali - and the sight of it brought a big smile to my face. It looked great going down the road. I always loved the paint job with the hookers - they were painted so rough - it just fit the style of how nasty that thing was. I'm glad its getting painted back. Some things just need to be a little seedy...

sort of like if we can just turn the old Cinema West theater back into a porno theater, I might be able to deal with all the luxury condos going up down on South Austin.

It makes plenty of sense. They are non-traditional, so you dislike them.

I just wish I could goldchain myself an A roadster, a 5 window, or a 32 "traditional" hotrod so I could fit in. I'm tired of being the oddball guy hahaha.
