I'm absolutely in awe of what you're doing and I've been trying to work out what I can do to help (in addition to a $ donation which will be with you shortly). I'm 6,000 miles away so my options are pretty limited, or so I thought until now:

I mentioned your project to my wife and she reminded me that earlier this year I had acquired 3 pairs of original new old stock, American ladies sunglasses from the 1950's which she and a couple of friends wore on a trip to Rome. She's happy to donate them to the project and I'm flying out to LA on 4th September with my Dad for a hotrod holiday.

They're yours if you want them - just let me know.

As a side note, I've recently secured the UK performance rights for some of the old Samuel Z Arkoff hotrod movies and I'm planning showings here in the UK for the petrol-head community. Maybe I can help out with getting Deuce Of Spades on the big screen over here?

Yeah there's a scene in the film where 'Fresno' (Toni Crosciato) gets into this huge argument with starter at Saugus and starter tells him:

"What, are you going to teach us how to run our dragstrip, wap? This ain't Raisin City!" :D

Of course then Fresno, the starter and the track manager all get in each other's face and everyone is yelling. Meanwhile, Johnny, still cool, waits, still sitting inside the DOS... Will Fresno get a third try? he has already jumped the gun twice... Track manager points him off the dragstrip. Furious, Fresno turns to Johnny and yells:

"This ain't over you cheating son of a b... "

At which point Johnny just SNAPS. So what happens next?... well... You'll have to see the movie ;)

    UPDATES

OH BOY OH BOY do I have a surprise for you guys today!!!

I decided at the drop of a hat to "whip up" real quick a "teaser" for the film. Mostly consisting of a photo slide show but then became ambitious and decided what the heck, let's also put some stock footage and sound..

It's pretty darn cool, for something I just threw together in a few hours while at my day job (ah the art of multitasking! ) I especially like the very end with the cool layers. The uptempo doo-wop song "Don't stop" was donated by the Encounters. Special thanks to •Peter G. Milazzo for his contribution. Love the song!

I posted the trailer on U-Tube. Here is the link:

    I LOVE HOTRODS!!!! ENJOY!!!

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I have the attention span of a newt and only read the first and last pages of this thread.

Have you set up a MySpace page for the movie? Word can travel fast, especially if you link up through rockabilly bands, car nuts and what-not.

    :DUPDATES

hey guys, I think I could use a little push. When this thing goes, it's going to be like a streamliner on the salt flats... It's gonna pick up SPEED faaaaast... But I can use a little push to get me rolling, you know, those #&@! gear ratios  ...

So what you guys could do to help me would be to post the trailer everywhere you happen to go (forums, newsletters, your websites) or email it to a bunch of your hotrod friends and ask them to pass it to theirs.

This could really increase public awareness and help me pick up some speed ! And it's not too time consumming nor will cost you a thing :D

I am spread very thin, doing everything myself, so there's only so much I can do to spread the Deuce of Spades gospel :) ...

NOTE: Due to current high traffic, the player may or may not load up immediately or even play. If you are trying to see the trailer but running into problems, be patient and try again. Meanwhile I am trying to create a film account on myspace and will see if I can upload the trailer other places, to help facilitate viewing it.

    Ms. Granger,

Great good luck on your project. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I forwarded your information to a friend of mine in L.A. who might be able to help you...at least I hope so. She's a great gal too, and an entrepreneur who knows how to get things done. She's also plugged into the car hobby in a big way so I am hoping she can find the time to get in touch with you

Either way, fine job on your part and I'll have a good thought and a little prayer for you to succeed.

    UPDATES:

Spent a HUGE amount of time setting up a film space account on myspace and updating my other myspace account. Also struggled with indie911 page. All these pages have one thing in common:

They don't do what they are supposed to do

But I'm sure in about 5000 years, I'll get it to work

On a good note, had a nice car meet last night and sat down with Tom Sparks and showed him the film's stills. He was quite impressed and I now have his full support for the film. Tom has an extensive collection of completely restored cars he rents to the movie studios. He also still owns his first hotrod, which he built when he was just a kid... :D He also mentionned he went to schook with MONK (who is in my movie) Cool stuff. He asked me to tell him about the film, so I did and gave him quite a bit of details too. He then asked:

    "Is this a true story?"

To which I replied "uh... no" and he smiled and said that everything was so real, all the details, he went on about telling me how he too did race at Saugus dragstrip (and remembered the old oak tree there) and did street race in Culver city, heck he even remembered Picadilly Circus... All the places described in my film... In short, he very well could BE Johnny Callaway  ... I did catch that little twinkle in his eyes as I told him my story...

This morning I was pumping gas (the beast was hungry - again!) when a young looking 75 year old man walked up to me and said:

    "Ah. brings back memories"

    I looked up and smiled.

"I was suspended from highschool for dragracing right in front of the school in a 32 roadster just like this one"

    To which I replied:

    :D :D :D :D :D

As he walked away, now old and slightly hunched over, I resisted the temptation to run after him and give him a BIG HUG... And I was thinking... HE could be Johnny Callaway...

I hope my film helps make sure that the Johnnys of our world don't fade away, forgotten... If we remember them they will never die.

That's all for today, see you all at the Primer Nationals this week-end. Come say hi if you spot the DOS and me.

    UPDATES:

A very exciting week for me. Got to sit down with Tom Spark, show him the film photos and tell about the plot. He really liked the project a lot and offered his help :).

The next evening I bumped into him at Bob's Big Boy. He was happy to see me and the deuce there and he went:

" I want you to meet someone"

So he walks me to this table and there is BRUCE MEYERS sitting with Dick Messer from the Peterson Museum, eating a greasy burger :D . I didn't know that Tom is Bruce's "adopted" Dad. So next thing I know I am hanging out with all these guys and we are talking about Deuce Of Spades. And Bruce is watching my trailer... And smiling.... :D I kept thinking "Pinch me, I must be dreaming". I was very impressed with Bruce. He was so supportive and genuinely excited to see a girl own and drive a deuce and make a hotrod movie... He had a smile up to his ears. It's ironic to see that a guy of this caliber is so down to earth and so nice and complimented me on my humble hotrod, while other people who barely own half a street rod look down on my car because it does not have this or that on it. Dick, director for the Peterson Auto Museum, also checked out the DOS and complimented me quite a bit about it. I figured, heck if these two guys like the car, I must have done something RIGHT :D.

Saturday at the Primer Nationals I bumped into Bo Hopkins, who has heard about the film. I had my portable DVD player so I played the teaser for him. He really liked it a lot, so him and I talked about the film, but I cannot divulged thay conversation (just yet) hehehe...

It was a pleasure to see him watch the trailer and say: "that's just great, this really could be something!" or something of that nature...

MORE GOOD NEWS: LOCATIONS AND PROPS

I now also have a lead for several dozens 50's cop cars. Not that I need that many, I only need ONE (or two), I hope the lead pans out.

I have also found a vintage train station for one of my flashbacks as well as the beach location I can film Johnny getting shit faced at.

    FILMING:

Reshot a scene while at the Primer Nationals. That scene was initially filmed at Paso Robles but because an entire building errupted on fire less than 100 yards from my shoot right while we were filming, I ran into problems, ashes got on the lense resulting in blotches... Scene not useable. So we redid it at the Primers. This was one heck of a challenging shoot, too many people, noise, trains, planes, midget race cars, guys leaving the show with their open headers, you name it, it all happened WHILE we were rolling camera... So we had to keep doing it over and over and over and over again... This one lady did not even notice we were filming and walked right up to us and started looking at my car  while we are in the middle of filming !!!! I think I will keep this footage as a bloop, it was just too #%$$!funny.

Today I found that France loves my trailer  . All of a sudden I am getting comments on my trailer on dailymotion.com and all of them are from French hotrodders and rockabilly people who LOVE the American Hotrods. It appears they think the film is going to rock. I sure hope they are right :D

    See you all tomorrow.
