Seems reasonable!
First of all, I just wants to clear it out, last year a bunch of the Coupe Devils from Norway went to the VLV show because of the Shifters car show... the concerts and party offcourse was a big bonus and decision maker..... but if we wanted to go on concerts I suppose we would have gone to Green Bay instead. The weekend was absolutely awesome, but I really felt that the whole thing was way to big, and owercrowded with everything-that-is-extreme-is-cool cars! I really look forward to attending the new and more regulated show :)

I kinda saw it coming and even heard rumors going around while at the show this past year. I forgot who told me that there is a possibilty that the show might be moved to Down town Las Vegas and that the show would be some what like Paso in that the town would be lit up with nothing but Old Cars...Is this true?

Good luck with the future plans, Axle.
This year was my third trip in five years from the UK to Viva, and yes...we came over primarily for the cars each time - though we also bought a wristband and enjoyed some of the music - but without the car show, our money would have stayed at home.
Comments about this year's show have been made on this board already so I won't rehash them, but everyone that attended knows that there were issues.
Thanks for all the hard work over the years.

Hey Axle, thanks for all the hard work and effort you and the Shifters put into the show. I've made the trip from Michigan for VLV #9 and #10. The carshow was the main reason I went, the bands are cool but for me they're just the icing on the cake. However the combination makes for one Hell of a weekend. Now I'm kind of torn. Do I blow $1,500-$2,000 on a weekend in Vegas just to go to a carshow? I know I wouldn't drop that kind of dough just to see a rockabilly extravaganza with no cars. Sure would be cool if the two events could still happen on the same weekend.

Yeah 07 show had some issues.......knew a few of them haha. 07 was my first as in 06 i destroyed my coupe comming from spokane, wa and never made it to vlv. best wishes to you axle, thanks for the one year i did attend vlv. Hoping that your show will be near, and on the same weekend as Viva. I know that most of our guys go for the cars, and that is my main reason as well. But music is nice too. If you move to a location and need some sounds, any band would love to help. lost souls will be looking forward for news.

VLV was a great excuse to visit Vegas and test the old rides,
even if it meant having to haul ass back home to be with the kids on easter.
The earlier (05 and before) shows gave some great memories and friends.
Thanks and keep at it!

The car show was the only reason I wanted to attend, having bands there was just a bonus.. I am not going to drive hundreds of miles just to see a band, but a bunch of cool cars, that is a different story

Wish you the best of luck.

Axle. Sorry to hear the Man's taking all the money. We attended VLV 10 and you kindly let us in even without prebooking. We're the swedes who rode in a -58 Bel Air. I'm certain you'll have a lot of car owners on this site to support your next venue. Keep us posted and maybe we can have a go at the next venue. Magnus

Something's in the air about now.

About the same time that that little blue pill has ruined Elvis' Viva Las Vegas song forever, another large outfit is trying to homogenize the Shifter's VLV.

Paso, now this...

I weep for the future.

Billet proof gets sold, no more Paso, now VLV. What the hell's going on?

16. I went this year for the first time. I figured the 10 year anniversary would be a good one to go too. I was disappointed with the cars. Not what I had expected. But on the plus side I did see Bert's Indian and James Intveld. Axel where ever you go you will have a ton of support.

I've been attending the VLV shows since the 4th one and this last one just didn't feel right. The quality of cars just was not there. I'm glad to hear it may be moving and that there will be better quality control on the cars. I think it just out grew itself. Thanks for the good times though. Its always been a riot!

Axle, I have always enjoyed your club and your shows and I'm sorry to hear that you won't be involved in the VLV anymore. This will certainly hurt it if it continues, but I have to agree totally with what your saying. Last year was a great show unitl a few people, again, had to ruin it for the rest of us. I think all your idea of sending photos of your car was great. There was alot of shit last year and some cars that didn't "qaulify" according to the rules but were allowed in ayways out of the kindness of your heart. Don't worry, we'll follow you and the Shifters to the next festival. Thanks for a great 10 years!

I can tell you that he treats the bands pretty much the same way. I know guys that have played to packed ballrooms, signed autographs for hours after the show, for not much more than free rooms. And several "name" bands that played for just rooms, no $$$. With airfare out there, they were behind.

If you notice, the quality of bands is going down as well. That's not to knock the bands that are playing. But the average band quality has dropped a bunch from the earlier years. And Green Bay will only continue to hurt VLV. The bands like it better, so they are more likely to go play there.

We'll see what happens. I doubt it folds because people are still going out there. But without the same bands, and no car show, I won't be back.

20. Axle,

I came to your show in 2005. My wife & I flew out for the weekend. She doesn't care much for old cars so we spent two days doing the tourist thing & I took Saturday AM to go see VLV by myself. I'm not much in to the music. I was there for the cars.

It was a great show & was certainly worth the trip. I'm hoping me & Kennedy can come out for the 2008 edition. We'll be watching to see where you land.

Good luck.

Oh man! I always wondered what really went on behind the scenes. From living there for ten years and going to car shows there, it seems the quality of the show eventually takes a dump if it's not screwed from the first show. Viva is something I always looked forward to for the car show. Sure, I love the Rockabilly scene and love music especially, but my life is cars and it's the reason I paid to go. I will not be buying into VLV this year then. Tell me where your show is and I'll go to that.

I agree though... take care of the ones who make you who you are. It seems to be common sense for any business. Not always true in Vegas, unfortunately.

Good luck Axle and keep us posted! I don't blame you one bit for the decision. Very wise in my opinion.

22. Wow, I can’t say I didn’t see this coming, I mean I haven’t really been excited to attend for the last few years. It was fun though early on, thanks for always inviting us Axle we do appreciate it. We will always have those early memories. Now keep us posted on where you take the car show and maybe now it will be all cars and not a circus of clowns.

Alex,
Jennifer and I have flown out twice to attend your car show at VLV and had a great time. We come to see you guys and the cars.
I like what you have said about having pictures sent for preregistration and quaility control. Let me know when and where your going, and we will support you. The sounds of other businesses stepping up has to be very encouraging.
Keep the faith!

Thanks! Alex and the Shifters for some good memories. Never been back since the 2002. It's good to know to that you have the GNRS Suede palace. Also, the 2nd and 3rd Anti-Blessing were awesome! You do have the right idea when putting a car show together. Good Luck and hope there's more down the road.

25. As the promoter of VLV I wanted to firstly assure you that the VLV Car Show will continue in it’s same format as part of the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend. I want to say thank you to The Shifters for all of their work in the past and I am sorry they felt it necessary to make this decision.

I am not going to get into a slanging match with Axle over his post even though there were some inaccuracies on it. Although I have to call him on one; the Shifters were always paid the amount they asked for. Each time Axle asked for a rise I gave it to him. But for 2008 he wanted triple the amount.

We both agreed on the quality of cars and we will be dealing with that as well as adding extra security. Very soon I will be sending out an email post with car show details. As always with VLV if you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at tom@vivalasvegas.net

I look forward to seeing you at VLV. if you have decided not to come again, I am sorry and would like to thank you for your past support. Hopefully you will hear good reports and return to a future VLV.

Finally, an item not car show related. One post commented on the amount bands get paid. Every band gets exactly what is agreed upon. They get it 3 weeks BEFORE the event. The amounts vary depending on the bands popularity and their playing time. This is no different to any other event. If a band did not like the amount they should have asked for more or decided not to take the gig.

My son and I have never missed a Viva show since the beginning. We really appreciate what you've done and totally understand why you would be over it.
Unfortunately, everything in Vegas that is successful eventually turns in to a drunk fest! I guess that's just Vegas. People come here to unwind and act like assholes. Guess they can't do that at home!
Through your show, we have met some of our most faithful customers. We've had people come from as far as Australia, Europe, Japan, Canada, everywhere you can imagine. We have bonded with many of these good people and will continue to be in touch with them.
Thanks again and good luck.

Didn't mean to imply that they didn't get paid what was agreed. That's not the case. Just that the dollar amounts were pretty low, if anything. Some have decided that it's not worth it, and some still play.
